Tech victory... I think that's the one I haven't done yet.

Very well, the MVL again proves that it's the perfect place for games you wouldn't normally play. ;)

It's not going to be the best by far, but at least it's the first! ;)

Well actually, not last night, hehe.  :D  I tried to go to sleep about 3AM, but just couldnt get sleepy. I was tossing & turning, which was annoying my gf, so I got back up and started my MVL game.

Work is going to be FUN today. I wonder if anyone will notice if I curl up under my desk and take a nap? Kinda like George in that Seinfeld episode...

To make matters worse, the heat is broken here at work today and its one of the coldest days of the year so far. I'm in Burlington, VT and it's currently -4F. Have to keep my winter coat and hat on!

Unless anyone else wants to speak up, I think everyone is ok with KP being the new official scorekeeper and Neilo with his title of Commissioner Emeritus? Neilo or Motti can add you to the MVL Administration thread over at the Tyranny of Evil Kzinti later today.

Acknowledging. Good luck everyone.

Sounds good to me.

Neilo or Motti can add you to the MVL Administration thread over at the Tyranny of Evil Kzinti later today.

That'll have to be neilo, since I'm not an MVL admin. AFAIK, I don't have access to that group level.

Replace the URL tags with LINK tags and enclose the URL itself in quotes. That should make Imageshack's thumbnail link be clickable.

For future reference.

Alright, can't compete with KzintiPatriarch on speed, but at least I've got second.
Most recent game on my JustinSane5 account. 1 Year, Suicidal, Beyond Mortality, Very Good, 10,875 as the Altarians.

I had to make up for last round, when I was away for the first three days. The early-cat gets the mouse... ;)

Checking in. Should be interesting. I think I've played one game with tech victory out of...well, a lot.

Same for me Craig...I think this may be my third tech victory out of over 100 games.

I agree with this.

But I would also say that this is essentially an application of what I called "Rules by Consensus" and I think SB has also referred to this as "Default Approval".

For any that missed this it's the idea that something may be discussed and agreed to by a limited number of members and as long as notice is given of the agreement and also as long as no other member voices an objection within a week then that proposal becomes an offical rule of the league.

This should be a great timesaver versus a formal vote but it does put some responsibility on any that may question the validity of any proposal to speak up.

In any case we could either consider this notice of the begining of a "Default Approval" period or I do believe that it is within the authority of the Commissioner to simply appoint the Scorekeeper which eliminates the formality of waiting a week.

In any case I assume to most folks this is mere semantics and I believe there will be no real difference in how anyone feels about this regardless of the method used.

BTW I did add the Voting Rules and the Rules by Consensus into the OP of the MVL Rule Thread in a separate section by themselves (seems appropriate since both are rules by which rules are approved).

Justin: Please always include the timestamp of your submission as displayed on the Metaverse, if you don't do a screenshot. 'Most recent game' unfortunately isn't the most helpful, as any game you play after that will be listed on top. The scores are (AFAIK) tallied when the round ends, so there is no way of knowing if you played another game in the meantime. ;)

Oh, thanks! I should have thought of that myself. The timestamp on my game was 2/19/2008 at 10:58:59 AM. My JustinSane5 character is Metaverse League/tournament exclusive, and I'd not been planning on playing another game on that character until round 8, but this makes a lot more sense. :)

Being new to the group, I hesitate to make suggestions about the game, I prefer to go along with whatever the old hands want to do, but I feel strongly enough about the scoring of the ties in Round 6 to speak up. I coach softball and have directed tournaments for many years and have the scars to show from having had to deal with tie scores.

IMHO: Basically, a team or player earns one-half point for a tie. Suppose you agree that lowest average submission rank gets one bonus point. Two teams tie for earliest submission rank. Each team should get one-half point. If you award each team one point, then you are giving a bonus point for each of the two top teams, which was not agreed to.

However, if you are giving a one-point bonus for the top four scores, as you do in MVL for high score and speed, then if the tie is for any place except fourth place, each player gets one point and that uses up two of the places. If there is a tie for fourth place, then each player gets one-half point. For example, suppose the top score is 30,000, then two players tie with 28,000, and the next players score 27,000 and 26,000. The awards are one point for 30,000 (first place) then one point each for the two 28,000's (tie for second and third place) and one point for 27,000 (fourth place). The 26,000 does not get a point because that was fifth place and only the top four earn points. Second example, if the top three scores are 30,000, 29,000 and 28,000 and two players are tied with 27,000, then the top three all get one point, using up first, second and third places, and the two 27,000's each get one-half point for a tie for fourth place.

If my suggestion is not adopted by the group, I might jump off of the end of the pleasure pier at Santa Cruz harbor. Then again, I might not.
