some quick questions about weapon colors.

Im just experimenting around to see what can be done and what i should never do *heh*

What controls the color of the Psi weapons? Is it the Dds texture or the "beamGlowColor ffffffff" that i keep seeing in the entry files. Maybe a little knowledge of what this ffff ffff hex color code would be good too. Is it possible to have the engine choose at random a color or texture for the weapons..such as your random choice for the backgrounds? This is just to add a bit more character to the game, not going to re-invent things, just add some flash..maybe even a bit of B5 mood.

I plan to start working on a mod that adds all kinds of things to each faction, i just need to get the basics down. (and yes ive modded the Psi carrier to have up to 20 squads, 20k hp, and more..what its fun!!)

i was messing around with the capital ship carriers and was wondering how to increase the amount of fighters/bombers that they could contain. Care to explain how you did it?

sorry i didn't really answer your questions about colors  :SNIFF!:

hehe sure,

Down at the bottom of all three faction carriers, look for the line "CommandPoints"
i changed mine to look like this:

CommandPoints
StartValue 10.000000
ValueIncreasePerLevel 2.000000

Note: this is a LOT of fighters and bombers, esp at full experience. If opposing factions have this kind of setup expect to see nothing but your fighter icons going everywhere. Its very cool to watch. :)

I was looking for that start value, I couldn't figure out how to get vessels to start with fighters, thanks!

Regarding the hex color code, each pair of letters represents a color channel Red Green Blue and Alpha, alpha being transparency. The format is probably RGBA or ARGB but I don't know so you'll have to experiment to find out.

edit the dds, it worked for me when I decided to make a pale blue beam pre-release, which of course got replaced by the advent beams. All the color is in the pair of dds's, the rest is just white glow, so they'll look way brighter ingame.

very cool, ive edited em both ways. the dds seems to work better when you save it under the Dxt5 ARGB 8bpp rather than the DXT5_NM as the pdf suggested. i could have just misread that though.
