Well, besides the GC2 series I really only play the NHL Eastside Hockey Manager 2007 game.....it's too bad development for the NHL EHM series was stopped as it is a fantastic game that any hockey fan with a PC would love if they only knew it existed, SI games gave up on it due to poor sales and piracy but really all of us over at the SI forums know that it was due to almost no advertising and their greed to make their Football Manager series available for every platform from PC to XBox 360 to hand held and probably one day for your your cell phone and wrist watch.....a sad little note here...the NHL EHM series came to an end one year ago today.....

Speaking of Fallout 1 and 2, I tried installing Fallout 2 on my dual core system:

As soon as I clicked Install, the mouse cursor vanished and I had a lockup that I had to use the Reset button. XP 32 bit/XP 64 bit - did not matter.

I brought up Task Manager and it stopped responding as well. Hence Reset button.

Come to think of it.

I've gone through a lot of games in my time. Ususally I don't play them to teh end (get bored, stuck, whatever) But, the one game I've had on my system for the last 6 years through multiple system builds, wipes, etc was Morrowind.

Everything else comes and goes. Sometimes I'll reinstall a game, but eventually I'll remove it. I have a bad feeling that Oblivion just won't live up to my expectations (probably why I havne't boughten it)

For those of you who are fans of the old X-Com I just want to bring - Laser Squad nemesis - to your attention... it's a master piece by Julian & nick Gollop the creators of the original X-com and has a lot in common, check it out.

2. Masters of Orion 2

GC2 series aside, if I have a fav right now kind of partial to Freecol (freeware Colonization). Kind of liked Europa Universalis II and even more liked Crusader Kings. Really like Football Manager series (now aka Worldwide Soccer Manager). Total War series was good but the campaigns kinda stunk in them relative to the battles. Other stuff you have to go back a ways. Lots of games I have heard about that I think I would have liked a lot but never had the time and money when they were out (SMAC, MoO, X-Com, Freescape all definately on that list) but I guess beyond that for an old fart like me you have to go back to the 80's-90's and Steel Panthers and some of the SSI classics (including lots of historical stuff and also Sword of Aragon, anyone remember that little thing). Some RTS stuff decent but only okay to me - Stronghold: Crusader, Dawn of War, not up to the snuff of the above titles in my book tho.

GC2 series

Speaking of Fallout 1 and 2, I tried installing Fallout 2 on my dual core system:

As soon as I clicked Install, the mouse cursor vanished and I had a lockup that I had to use the Reset button. XP 32 bit/XP 64 bit - did not matter.

I brought up Task Manager and it stopped responding as well. Hence Reset button.

NT/WinXP users can get around the installer by manually installing the game themselves. Note however that you must have at least NT 4.0 with Service Pack 3 in order to play the game. Also, Fallout should work fine but was not tested very much under NT.

First, create a folder for your game called fallout 2 (ie c:\games\fallout2).

Humongous Installation: Copy (CDROM):\master.dat (318MB), (CDROM):\critter.dat (150MB) and Copy the entire (CDROM):\data folder to your fallout folder (ie c:\games\fallout2)
Create a text file in c:\games\fallout2 called fallout2.cfg and add the following line to it, depending on your installation/game:

Humongous Installation:
[sound]
music_path1=c:\games\fallout2\data\sound\music\
music_path2=(CDROM):\data\sound\music\

[system]
critter_dat=c:\games\fallout2\critter.dat
critter_patches=c:\games\fallout2\data
master_dat=c:\games\fallout2\master.dat
master_patches=c:\games\fallout2\data

Next install the official patch Fallout 2, it's easiest just to unzip/unrar them into the Fallout 2 folder.

Start the game by running the fallout2.exe file.
You might have to enable the Compatibility mode to run the game, to do this:
Make a shortcut to the fallout2.exe file.

Right click the shortcut, and select "Properties->Compatibility" and select either Win95,98
Enjoy!
