X-Com. (Dot!)

Multiple modernized attempts have been made, never to come even near the original very first version. Low-res, tactical masterpiece, huge concepts about balancing of features. Stunning Ais, addicting gameplay. Name it.

Sure enough, i do enjoy GC2 also. And played a lot of others (listing most would involve me into more typos than i have time to spare!).

Still, dos-box is installed and receives a visitor once in awhile. Cuz, X-Com(s) simply was/is an intellectual ride such as i have yet to replace by anything.

Seeing as this is a GalCiv forum, it should go without saying that we all like GalCiv2.

Not in any particular order:

Elder Scrolls: Morriwind & Oblivion, Halo 1-3, Starcraft, Warcraft 3, Homeworld (particularly the expansion, Cataclysm), TIE Fighter (I'm re-installing that right now actually), KOTOR, and...many others that I can't remember.

FPS --> Tie between System Shock II and Thief II

TBS --> X-Com UFO Defense

RTS --> Tie between Kohan: Ahriman's Gift and Mechcommander II

RPG --> Planescape: Torment

I'm sure I'm forgetting some...

1) Galactic Civilizations II obviously, despite some balancing issues (good-evil, offense-defense,...). Still, it's the best 4X game out there in my opinion thanks to the AI, genuine attempts to tailor the game to suit the customers and a lot of other stuff I won't go into.

2) Tropico: You could consider it a bit like a politically incorrect Caesar-clone on a tropical island. Lots of options, nice in-depth gameplay and a good sense of humor.

Console: Tribes: Aerial Assault, Halo 2, the NCAA football series. CoD 4 might be there if I continue to have this level of interest in it.

Hmmm

Morrowind (the mods still make it as good if not better than most other rpg's)
Rome Total realism (total conversion for rome total war)
Sacrifice (Fantasy Battlezone!)
Planescape: Torment (simply one of the most powerful and well written stories I've heard)
Far Cry (fun to play when in the mood for mindless destruction)
System Shock (Great gameplay, Great story, Hope Bioshock is as good)

I remember playing DOS shareware DOOM with only 5 MB RAM, and it barely ran on my old 386DX/40 with 387DX/40 system. I couldn't afford to get 4 more 1 MB modules. My how times have changed. Those old ISA bus video cards were the major choke point (8 Mhz bus speed).

One of my favorites is Corridor 7, which I first played in its floppy version. Then years later I found Corridor 7 CDROM on eBay, and bought several of them for myself and friends. It is an FPS DOS game.

I still like the SSI Gold Box AD&D Forgotten Realms games.

Dude, I remember Corridor 7. That game was awesome.

The old forgotten realms games were fantastic, also.

I Play Corridor 7 under Win98SE, with the option that prevents dos programs from detecting Windows, and it runs fine. These old games are why I maintain the 98SE box. Unfortunately, I had to throw out the Blake Stone floppies, cause I kept getting the same runtime error message for loading the install program.

Another one I still like to play is Castle of the Winds (Windows), and I have both 1 and 2. I know it runs in Windows 2000, but, will have to see if it runs in XP Pro 32 bit.
