cursorfx beta3

cursorfx beta3

i was just notified by sdc that an update was available and let it install and let the system reboot. and as mentioned already i noticed my cursor going under everything. i found that resetting the cursor to windows default and then reseting to the cursor i want solved the problem. you will probably also have to redo your effects settings.

it hasn't been released on vista, it is still a beta, so i don't think your attitude is appropriate. u bought it knowing full well it was incomplete software

Okay...appreciate the attitude adjustment...have a good day!

Well I'm going to have to disagree with the thinking that what we are seeing with the cursor is the normal Windows problem that has come up before. I've had that problem and the cursor would go behind everything.

This time it's very selective, atleast on my computer, only goes behind drop down menues. Now the fact the CursorFX Plus was working fine for me prior to the last beta update tends to make me feel it's a bug with the update. Plus, a lot more people have the problem now who are running CursorFX.  :NOTSURE:

System: XP Home, 32bit, SP2 w/updates, CursorFX Plus and all the Stardock goodies I can sneak onto my computer.  ;)

we all know this program is in beta stage. there is no need to argue with each other about the wys and wherefors we bought it. the sole purpose should be to give info to the developers that will help them fix it. perhaps trhe latest release should have contained only the bug fixes for us to test and play with and not include new function. at any rate another oddity has occured to me. with each new update we have had to redo all our settings. with the previous release we were given the option of disabling the shadow. i didnt want them so i disabled them. it seems that even after the update this setting holds.could it be that one part of the program knows its disabled while in another part its operating as if it was stiil there. this would explain the jumping cursor part but not the going under part or would it. another consideration is before this last update there was an update to the scd. another possibility.

It's not a Windows problem it's a Z order problem. There will be an update soon.

well, I know it isn't going to make any of you feel better, but I am having no problems with CFX, and I'm always running OD+ and RightClick. I have beta3 for CFX, and also dl'd XP SP3 beta (RC1). I had the problem with CXP, but haven't had an issue since getting CFX....wierd, no?

I noticed the problem always came up when I changed WindowBlinds.

I think the only time I've had it happen since dl'ing CFX is when I was changing locations on my weather docklet in OD+. And that only happened once.

almonty - for those of us who are not up on the jargon, please define/explain Z order.
Z order is the depth order. The third dimension, so to speak. You have x, y, and z. X is left and right, y is up and down. Z order is the depth of an object compared to another object (or objects). In this case, the Z order of the cursor is compared to the depth of your desktop and the open windows/programs you have running. Did I get that right, ALMonty?

If it helps, try and think of the GUI as a series of planes running parallel to the monitor. The Z-axis runs perpendicular to the x- and y-axis, or basically front-to-back. Hope that makes sense......

(Thank goodness for that year of commercial arts I took in college....  :D  ;p )

vell, thank you for zat. i always thought everyzing should be in z proper order.

leo, 3-D objects usually can't be ordered like that. It works with GUIs because every window is parallel to the screen, so every point in a window is at the same depth as all the others. A little confusing, I know.

Or you can think of your desktop as layers. The wallpaper is the bottom layer and your cursor is the top layer. If you open two windows up the one that is focused is on top of the other and the other is sent down one layer. What is happening the cursor is being sent down to the wallpaper layer when the desktop is being refreshed.

That explaination is a lil easier to grasp. Thanks for clarifying for me, ALMonty.....I tend to get carried away when it comes to technical explainations.....

I blame it on my parents. My mother was an English teacher and my father was a structural engineer..... I was cursed from the start! X-(

A Z-order of one puts it on the level of your desktop/wallpaper. Z-order of two means it would appear above the open windows. If you have an open window and choose a drop-down menu, that menu has a z-order of three. I'm going to assume that's where the issue lies. CFX seems to have a Z-order of two, because it only happens with drop-down menus and rightclick....

And I edit reply #s 31 and 33. I haven't been on my PC much this week, so I just started noticing the same issues involed with the Z-order.

I think it got confusing with the x-and y-axis. I know what you meant :D

My cursor was going underneath dropdown menus,Object Dock, taskbar, titlebar and start menu. I don't know what orders they are(I could figure it out). But it did stay on top of windows, so I'm assuming that would put it at layer 3 if the desktop was layer 1 and the window was layer 2. ;p

Wierd. Mine is a little different. It appears above OD+ but below the start menu....

i had the same problem with the beta 3 release, changing back to windows default cursor and then reapplying a different one only fixed the problem until you used another program then the cursor would start disappearing under the task bar, RC etc etc, got so sick of having to do that that i restored the previous CFX within SDC. i'll wait until an update fixes the problem before i consider updating again. and yes i have the plus version

Same issues with CFX 1.94[b].024 as in the previous posts. Using XP Pro SP2.

Nimbin, I'm not so lucky. When I dl'd the first CFX beta, I clicked on the link within an email I had recieved from SD (had my registration number in it, too). The last update I did came from SDC, but it won't auto-archive a program that wasn't originally installed throught it.......sucks!
