Starcraft has a problem, despite the fact, you could make, a lot diferente tactics, it was a click fest. i mean theres an order to build resourses, with the "colectors" of every race, and a few wrong clicks would mean, be behind in resourses =S, and in some places, agaisnt a good player it was doom. this is an example. theres a lot more

despite this, is one of the best game ever. behind the best one of all : mutant league hockey for Sega genesis

I think it was hit on the nose that someone mentioned that RTS's from CnC, Starcraft, all the way up to Company of Heroes, and SupCom boil down to how fast you can do frantic multitasking micro clickfests. Sure it may have been fun back in the days of CnC, and Starcraft, but IMO it is now old hat. Been there done that. If Starcraft 2 is nothing more than a graphics upgrade of the original with the same type of gameplay then i aint bothering no matter how good the story is.

The zoom, and scale of Sins, and Supcom has spoiled us indeed. I think it is foolish not to include this feature in any future RTS.

As far as UaW is concerned... Meh, looks like more of the same.

I agree with everything said here. I played the demo. No zoom, played very slowly on my PC (and I have a tricked out Alienware machine). Nothing interesting other then big factory units for the Hierarchy. Will wait for reviews.

There are a few exceptions where the zoom feature is not needed, such and CoH and thats due to the fact its more of a tactical game and maps are smaller, and even then you have the tactical map.

UaW wil end up being a failure because of particular issues they failed to resolve in beta which I knew people complained about and I did the demo and saw the same things they talked about not resolved at all.

StarCraft, what a debatable subject, its claimed to be the best RTS made, then if it was so great why do I not look forward to the same crap new graphics called Starcraft 2...? Starcraft origionally did not get me interested in going further than campaign. Back when Starcraft was made (and I think I can get a few supporters) there were CnC people and there were Starcraft people, and I was a cnc guy all the way up to CnC Generals ZH up until Relic came out with DoW, CoH, and Supcom. They are new ideas and take away the micro and focus more on macro causing you to focus more on the main thing in an RTS....the combat. I hate how in Starcraft you were forced to get all these resource units in order to get the stuff flowing in order to get your first building up to get your first units to prevent you from getting rushed (Zergling rush ftw =/ ) where as in the CnC's you got the refinery or w/e and it went to getting resources and you didnt have to worry about it unless it got attacked or the resources ran out, and that brings up soemthing else... in Starcraft once you ran out of resources, basically game over once your out of units and nothing but a base and at that point its all talk in order to piss someone off to get them to leave, at least in the cnc's resouces game back slowly or in generals they had the alternative methods like oil derricks or then what they had in Generals.

UaW is said to be similar to Star Craft and they're right..the game lasts typically 20 minutes...imo thats to short to be a worth while experience, and even in CoH the typical game would be 20-30 minutes for a 1v1 depending upon who your playing..but as you add more people to a CoH game the time increases to easilly 40 minutes for a 2v2 and an hour or more for 3v3 or 4v4.

Ok but starcraft has something only a few have, thats unit longivity. No mather in what part of game you were, any unit could be used. Tier 1 units still kick ass in a long game. thats mean alot about how the game is made.

Also is a bit more of taste than good game. Supcom for me is crap, cause the story is crap(aka same total anilation with one race more) and also I DONT like like so many units and some of them been crap after 5 min of play. But that does not mean the game is bad.

Starcraft in it time brought speed, good history, nice graphics, good sounds, great units. Now is a 10 year old game against Supcom, dow, ect 2/3 top. So you cant realy compare.

I'll give it the diversity factor, they are diverse sides thought up by games workshop, but the balance being perfect? After eight years of patches yeah.

The interface was horrid, even for when it was made. With a couple dozen units on each side it was playable, with a hundred it was a nightmare, and I was fast back then. CNC at least didn't have the horrific limitations that made large scale battles such a goddamn pain in the ass, and using abilities in starcraft amounted to pretending you were playing a small scale tactics game while attempting to manage a large scale war. It was better than warcraft though, which was even worse than dune.

My theory on why blizzard does so well is that too many people drool over cutscenes. Their games have universally had poor graphics(go through the list, look at the dates, and compare them even just inside genres, they're all two year old crap graphics that someone else already did, from warcraft to WOW), mediocre gameplay with the possible and arguable exception of starcraft the clunky clickfest, and been there done that stories just like everyone else, but with better cutscenes and voice actors, an advantage over westwood that they lost with RA2. You can't beat softcore porn stars playing special forces apparently.
