Sins Retail Box Preview

Coming in 2008 to a retailer near you!

We've just completed the first version of the Sins of a Solar Empire retail box that will be showing up in a store near you come February 2008. This is the box for the standard retail version of the game; we're currently looking at a premium Collector's Edition edition too. Click on the image for a larger version and let us know what you think!

We beta'ers get those, right?

The standard SKU box will only contain the game DVD and a printed manual. For the Collector's Edition we're looking at including the above plus a hotkey card, music CD, and perhaps 3 fold-out posters.

Nice looking fox cover. Any chance of seeing the back?

Also as far as the CE goes, is there going to be any in-game bonus for it? I'm getting the CE anyway, just curious

well, sticking to tradition, I must complain.

the four ships lined up in the background look kinda icky compared to the rest of it, other than that, it it quite nice.

Good design. Together with the cool game title it would get my intention in a store.

I really like that one It's a neat and clear package, with this new layout "Game For Windows" too...

Too bad i live in italy so getting a hard copy of Collector's Edition would be expensive or impossible or either, because i preordered it digitally

When the box package will be complete... will you make the cover available for the people who bought digital? So i can "dress" my copy on the shelf too

Question, if we have already preordered it is it possible to get the collectors edition? Because I love me some collectors editions. Also, maybe some cards going over the history of the game could be included, or a nice hard back book. xD

Pretty well desinged, nice contrast in colors, the ships are a bit too dark, but most covers these days look accessively morbid.

Nice. Like one of the above posters, if we've already pre-ordered it will we receive the collecters?

I like the red blue contrast, very lovely, though I think the straight on battle orientation is a bit distracting; i think a side veiw would be better. Have that building/antennae thing and the SINS name merge into a tec fleet facing the blue of the Advent...

Nice

The funny thing is, it does already. The 'building/antennae' thing is the front of a Kol, so it's as if the Kol is flying over the rest of the fleet, and in perspective it looks larger than the rest because it's closer

Meh, its above right now, I mean Merging, at any rate, its not gonna carry to well in words and I dont much feel like drawing a picture... I think the view of the ships facing off should be side ways basically

Do you think there's enough room on the box to do it sideways? Yarlen said on IRC yesterday that it's an in-game shot completely (well, minus the Volcanic planet and the Kol shadow).. Ships would have to be a lot closer to fit on the front cover for a side shot.. still doable, it'd just have to be a different shot
Reply #21 Top
There's not enough room on the box front for a side-view of the fleets. Trust me, it is much easier to make out what's going on with the actual box than it is with this perspective shot.

i think beta testers should get collector's edition too

First it is a DVD.

Second can we get a high res image of that hotkey card?

I will like to print it a little bigger than default and usually that is imposible cause the image is so low quality. As you guys will be using a DVD media it should be possible to do it as well as to include high res images of lets say those shots you guys been teasing us with for the last 3-4 months!

cheers

First it is a DVD.

I just stick to old news, cause it was planned to be on CD

hey, those look like the ships that migrated from beta. any clue on additional effects on ships such as blast points, smaller missles but larger explosions (sry had to bring this up but the missles look so harmless when exploding with a firecracker effects).

i have to stress that the tec obviously did came out of a peacefull trade coalition order, straight to the jaws of hell against a powerful ancient race and advance advent techs. this explains the reason behind the nature of tecs war crafts. maybe in a patch or expansion, i'm hoping that IC will lean tecs military hardware towards to a more capable warcrafts that can handle advance race such as vasari or advents. instead of relying on a cargo crate looking cruiser with bolted machine guns.

just a thought.
