12 races

Playing with all 12

Are we going to be able to play with all 12 races in TA?
I mean, the largest('immense') galaxy is 484 sectors(22x22). That should be more then enough room for all the races + customs.

How about 14 races in one map. 12 majors + 2 customs. Combine that with 484 sectors and that should be... interesting.

Also, has the epic generator been abandoned or is it still in progress?

Btw, stardock rocks.

Well since you have the immense galaxy, it wouldn't be a bad idea to have more races.

Also, has the epic generator been abandoned or is it still in progress?

Probably scrapped.

I agree fully here. Especially now when we are about to be given 'Immense' galaxies.

I was a bit miffed when DA gave us 2 new races + custom opponents without the ability to use them all at once. 12 would be good so we can have all the stock races 14 would be perfect for those that like customs.

So... how about it?

I would love to have the option to have fourteen races on the map. I was a bit irritated even in DL when, if you were custom, you could only play with nine of the ten races.

No. The epic generator was a proposed feature of the DA expansion. What it was meant to do was create a story at the end of the game that used the events of the game for it's subject matter. Basically it was an AAR generator.

However despite early reports that seemed to be quite promising the feature got bogged down and was scraped. What resulted was the feature that was arguably one of the most popular of those proposed for DA shelved, and the most we got was an event log later in the updates. There have been a few hints now and then that it might get put back in, but like the hints of a multiplayer expansion, it seems doubtful that it is going to happen.

As one might surmise from my post I was very disappointed with it's removal.

More info on it's unfortuante demise may be found here: WWW Link.

1 more vote for more races! More races = less chance of winning, but more chance of an "angry" galaxy. I totally dig 8 minors and 10 majors on tiny maps - it's just hilarious how fast people get angry. So the more the merrier, if you ask me.

If SD found a way to allow 50 races into a game, I'd probably build 38 custom races just to see what it was like on a small or medium map.

This thread needs more attention,

Sorry for this but,

Now that i have your attention Stardock, this is really a good idea. At the very least allow more opponents on the "immense" map. Though i would like to see it available on all maps, "immense" will be better for it if this can be included.

What say you sir Frogboy, is this possible. I'd try and bribe you with "i'll pre-order TA if you do", but you have already won me over and it is already ordered...how about include this feature and i'll send you a bottle of pure Torian Ale...made from the juciest torians you ever meet.....

Serioulsy this is a great idea, and i hope it sees the light of day...well done FB!

Yeah up it if it isn't a huge deal, up the civ cap. And if it is a huge deal, well it's not super important. To me anyway
Reply #15 Top
And here's yet another vote for removing the civ cap. It only makes sense on small or maybe medium galaxies, larger than that, there should be enough space for even 14 or 15 civs to expand a bit before being forced to go to war.

FINALLY A GOOD IDEA FROM FIREBENDER
Great Idea!

Now I'm insulted.   When was the last time YOU had an idea.

So stardock, whats your oppinion on this?

Options:

A) Go to hell, you don't know anything.

B) It MIGHT make it on our "If time" list (by 'MIGHT' we mean we pick option A).

C) We have a "ignore bad ideas" policy.

D) We have a "don't comment on ideas" policy

E) The increased AI CPU consumption, the enormous map and RAM usage will crash your PC and make our memory saving adjustments useless unless your PC is very ultra super high-end. And we will also have to take time off coding and all that jazz to work on this. As well as create codes for AI interaction between itself.

F) MAYBE in 1.1 or later updates.

G) Other.

I wouldn't be offended in any of these choices but for goodness' sake please comment.

P.S. That last bit on option B is just me having fun.

So...shall we start talking about Torians again?

Answer B is basically what companies say, but really they want to say answer A....now that I think about it, that happens alot!

That epic generator sounds pretty awsome why wasnt it put into DA?

Read the link I posted.

Only if my Fembots are on charge.....their recharge cycle is often far too long....but since where talking about Torians...how about a nice glass of Torian Ale, aged 25 years.....just the right age too i might add, squish 'em while there young i always say!!!!

Well if i am not mistaken the reason for the civ cap is simply that the whole code for the AI is based on there being at max 10 races in the galaxy.

Perhaps, but if the code is built to also accommodate 8 minor races (plus any that show up mid game) it seems that it would be possible to put a couple more major races in. It would slow things down a bit perhaps, and they would have to change the UI a bit, but it seems like it would be possible.

Did anyone catch Frogboy on chat tonight? I did ask about raising the civ cap, and basically his response was that it is possible, the game can actually support 36..yes you read that right...36 races. But it would be difficult to implement as the UI would maje this very difficult, though it is something he would like to see done....

Thats not a direct quote, but pretty close. Take that for what it's worth, but i doubt we will see a change anywhere in the near future...GC3 perhaps.
