Metaverse Medals and What They Mean Answered

Many out there have been playing on the Metaverse for a while and have earned a great number of medals but those that are new to the MV or to the Galactic Civilizations universe would have to traverse a large number of threads to discern what each medal actually stands for. So to ease the searches of those that don't have the time or ability to search for all that I present, as to the best of my knowledge, what each medal stand for.

First off, to have Medals appear under your postings you must go into your Characters page and highlight the Default button located underneath 'Edit Character'. Once this is highlighted the medals will appear in all your past and future posts.

Naval Ranking (Ensign through Fleet Admiral) is based on number of postings to the MV. A high amount of submissions increases your ranking.

Ensign (1)
2nd Lieutenant (2)
Lieutenant (3 to 6)
Commander (7 to 9)
Captain (10 to 23)
Fleet Captain (24 to 34)
Commodore (35 to 39)

Rear Admiral (40 to 49)

Vice Admiral (50 to somewhere around 100)

Admiral (greater than 100)
I do not currently know the amounts needed for  Fleet Admiral other than its a very high amount of game submissions, at least above 450 (the current highest amount of submitted games)

Average Difficulty: Averages the difficulty of all games played to the LOWER averaged difficulty level.

Battles Won: Amount of submitted MV games (wins + losses), received at the 5, 10, 15, 25, 50, 75, 100, 250, 500, 750, and 1000 benchmarks.

Empire Medals: You must be a member of an Empire to receive one of these. Some empires are very well established and are not easy to knock down from their position.

Authors and Commenter Medals are Forum related medals. I do not suggest attempting these medals as they are currently held mostly by Stardock personnel and making posts just to obtain these could result in punitive actions, such as Exile (unable to post).

Achievements:

#1: Racial Medal: Having a victory with each 'main' race (does not include Korath or Krynn at current time) at least once in a submitted game. Can be submitted from any version however.

#2: 5 Victory Games

#3: 20 Victory Games

#4: 50 Victory Games

#5: 100 Victory Games

Medals #6-#9: Unknown Status.

Wounded in Action: Posting 5 defeats, can not be resignations, will appear on your screen in game but no longer appears under postings for an unknown reason.

Alignment: The average ethical alignment used in submissions. Chaotic Good or Chaotic Evil means that your average falls between the extremes and Neutral.

Race: The average race used for submissions. Strangely, DA games are not used in determining average race, but DL and TA games are.

Character Rank: Medals earned by being the top scorers on the MV board.

again correct Doogle; to be honest I would probably properly summarize all that data better so that it would be easier for others to find/understand but that would mean creating yet another thread and eh, these quick replies are just so much more fun

Yes, thank you!

edited the OP to reflect that Difficulty Medals are constantly averaged against your games. They can go up or down depending on the Total Average Difficulty.

To a Dev:

Is it alright if I post a pic of the Legend in the OP? Wasn't sure due to possible infringement issues even though its on the GC site. I'm ok with just having the Link if need be.

Well, I started my ascent to getting all the MV medals (I'm leaving the Commenter/Author medals for another day  )

For those that want to see what a Purple Heart is, my Zeus character has one.

Hmmm....

At least some of the medals are not working properly. For instance, Mumblefratz should be getting a silver medal for 2nd place commentator, and I don't see it appearing next to his name.

Gal Civ Authors and Commenters

They show up on the individuals profile, but not their posts. Even then, it appears that the top authors get both medals. I.E. Frogboy gets Gold author and Gold commenter when he should be Gold author and Bronze commenter.

So it appears that you are going to have to make 422 original posts to get those two medals if you really want all medals and not just the game play related ones! :)

well maybe after 1000 games I'll have something worthwhile to say....not that I haven't pondered on creating a "daily" that focuses on a particular aspect of the game. I really hate having to traverse 20 threads to learn something. The only that has stopped me is that its not really "original" research, so much stands on the doings of those that came before such as yourself, Wyndstar, Iztok, Mumble, and oh so many others that I'm sure I would forget important individuals.

now that it isn't to say that someone going through and combining and editing that work is bad, but I guess I have felt like that you all deserve so much credit and I worry that would be diminished if someone, like myself, were to do a write up on various topics. Of course, I'd give due credit but is that really the same?

Oh, I don't know. It seems like the editing work would be quite a task in itself and worthy of recognition. In addition, I think it's fair to say that most of us are more interested in the community benefit rather than individual credit. The information is only good if others can find a use for it...Also, I know that I personally benefited from reading posts by more individuals than I could possibly credit and many of the things I have read have gone into my overall game strategies.

Well my good friend Neilo accomplished something what no other MV players has done and that is be the first to reach 250 victorious games. As such he now has the 250 Battles icon...however, he does NOT have the supposed 250 Victories Medallion that we assumed he would receive at that point.

So 250 victories doesn't equal that medallion. So what does it stand for? Its possible it could be at other milestones, such as 300 victories, but until someone does it I guess we won't know. That is unless the developers know and can tell us (hint hint)

It could be one of those medals like the Purple Heart one that isn't showing up like it should.
well maybe but the Purple Heart still shows up when you go to their actual profile, the assumed medallion doesn't show up still. Medallions have never shown up in the Metaverse character selection screen when you start a new MV game.

It is possible that it stands for a different milestone.

interestingly enough, my Racial Victory Medallion still appears under my name even though I cleared all the games from that character. I am wondering if it still shows up once I post a new game or not but haven't done that yet.
I actually wondered about that when i saw it before.

So I gather we can't use the Metaverse with the TA beta yet. Is that right?

Also -- newb question -- I assume when you make a MV character, it's linked to this forum account? I don't have to name him Lord Grotius, do I?

Thanks.
1) no TA isn't Metaverse compatible yet; it should be relatively soon though

2) you can name your MV character whatever you want; you actually have three open character slots
Reply #68 Top
Many thanks!

TA has really got its hooks into me. I love the differing tech trees. Can't wait for it to become compatible with the MV. :)

Has the Racial Victory medal been fixed for DA yet? I can't be bothered to go back to DL to get it. -_-
Reply #70 Top
no, for your Favorite Race to appear, you still need to play at least one DL game. Sorry :(

Note that "racial victory" is a different medal than "favourite race"...
Yeah, favourite race is the one I meant. :SNIFF!:

I guess it wouldn't hurt to have a game or two of DL at some point.
Something's wrong with the OP, since I'm "fleet captain" with only 20 submitted games.
[Must be due to my mad skills... :SNIFF!:]

bump for newer players, and updated OP with some info that I've come across using TA
