I'm Improving the Improvements...

And They Shall Be Impecable!

It's been a while since I've had something (I was allowed) to talk about, and with production in full swing for 'Twilight' I thought I'd pop in and show off some of the new Improvements we've been working on.

Pictures of some New Artwork

With the race specific tech-trees come TONS of new Planet Imps that need made, so that's what I'll be doing for the next few weeks. Above we have the following...

Arena of Agony: Boosting the morale of any evil race that may build it, the Arena takes the place of 'Entertainment Networks' used by some of the Neutral and Good races.

Slave Pits: A staple of the Drengin production force, Slave Pits do the work of a Factory for considerably less money and mechanical wear-and-tear (expendable slaves take most of the punishment). If you're a good player and take over a planet with Slave Pits, you'll have to either convert the vile improvement or risk a change in foreign opinion of your moral standings.

Temple: Uh...I actually don't know what Brad has planed for this one. I got an email that said 'I needs a Temple', so I mades him a Temple.

I guess that's it...Oh, and I've been helping the Ironclad team on their intro cutscene, winch also needs to be done by next month.

Wow, October is going to be crazy.  I'll keep you posted on my sanity!

If you going crazy helps you make awsome buildings, then go for it.

(who needs sanity anyways?).

EXcellent! It would be awesome if slave pits would get a bonus of conquered planets. Or you could have slave trade routes with other evil empires! Instead of increasing revenue, they would increase production...and alittle money of course for the Korx. I just wish you could somehow dictate how many people are shoved into those sweat shops!....err I mean slave pits! (Heck whats the difference?)

Another good idea, have a evil morale booster that would be like a gladiator training center. It would work like a fusion plant for production, but it would work exclusively for the arena and increas morale.

Any more dastardly sweet secrets up your sleeve?  Can't wait to hear more!

That arena is awesome!

A little crazy goes a long way when you're creating evil-looking structures. Neilo, I think the Tyranny of Evil should lend our friend BoogieBac a few fembots for the duration of this project...

Nice, they already look cooler than any of the original improvements!

Hold on for a sec! Think about what you are saying. The fembots might restore some of his sanity. Save them until after he gets his job done.

(It better be a good job too).

Nice work! I think the slave pit is beautiful. I hope the slaves feel the same way.

Sweet. I've been asking for new planetary improvement pictures for a while now all we need is a deferent picture for sensors or shields.
Can't wait to see the rest of them.

So here we've got the Drengin version of a factory, an evil morale building and a Temple that is obviously Altarian and, so far, does absolutely nothing. Great. If the Arena of Agony is simply equivalent to a lowly Entertainment Network, I wonder what the sinister Korath version of a Virtual Reality Center would be.

Now if your a Good or Neutral race and will have to demolish the Evil buildings anyway, I see more reason to use Mini-Soldiers, Tidal Disruption or Core Detonation upon invasion. Would there be any nerfage to improvement-killing invasion techniques to stop this?

I'm very excited about this statement...
Are there any plans for making other actions "risk a change in foreign opinion of your moral standings"?

It would be awesome if you're good, attacking another good civ without a causus belli would make the other civ's question your "goodness."

Hmm... does this mean that Alignment is going to be more heavily integrated into the tech trees as opposed to being a small extension of it?

Awesome pics Boogiebac! I especially like the temple really looking foward to seeing more designs . You and stardock keep up the excellent work youve done on this game(s) and you'll have a player for life. Did I blow enough smoke lol jus kidding

Looks very good. The question is then, can the Drengin race build slave pits and still choose a good alignment? Seems to me the unique tech trees are going to pretty much make choosing your alignment obsolete.

Good Drengin still have slave pits, they just give the slaves lemonade from time to time and throw company parties.

They probably hold a "slave of the month" award ceremony as well.

Seriously though, I don't see how this can be implemented without scrapping alignment choices or significantly altering how it works. Essentially by making every race truly unique, it will clearly define the ethics and culture of each race and hence whether they really are good or evil. I could never see races like the Drengin being anything but evil anyway, so I wouldn't mind if the choice of "researching" your alignment was taken away. Perhaps there could be different effects to the moral choices you make. Or maybe if you are fixed to a specific alignment at the start you could still sway between differing degrees of that alignment, which could impact your relations with other races. Eg, the Yor don't like you because you "aren't evil enough." I guess we will find out how this all works pretty soon when the beta gets released.

How weird its going to be when conquoring planets. So far we've seen the example of a good race taking over Drengin Slave Pits. But think about the You getting a planet full of moral buildings. and other cases when the existing planet improvement may be useless to the conquoring heroes. I think its cool though, Like you'll have to "convert" the planet into one that more resebles your race. Maybe ill even use some improvement-destroying invasion tactics.

I do wonder now if this means that invading a race of a similar ethical alignment will make more sence.

And keep those pics coming, and if you let something slip out, we won't tell. lol

Marshall, i think he can have all the fembots he needs, as long as we get more evil looking structures as these.
