STOP THE HATE!!

Something tells me that i'm going to be called idiotic, ignorant, and the rest of that kind of junk. But i have to speak my mind. I see all these anti-belief/pro-brief posts that end up being just a bunch of flame posts. Why can't everyone on here just be happy and respect everyone's views. I mean was it not hate that fed the flames of World War 2 and History's genocides? I mean we are called manKIND. Even though we weren't named that for being nice, we should have that become part of our identity. Anyway, i suppose the main reason people argue is that people think that logic is on their side. Well from what i have seen/read, I can only naturally conclude that logic becomes useless when a person is filled with hate, which both parties are guilty of doing here and out in the world. Also, it doesn't matter if your view is unlogical or the most logical thing in the universe, because as long as it makes you happy, that is all that matters!

Finally I have one logical question for both atheists and theists. If you believe that Atheism/Theism is correct why are you wasting your life playing GalCiv2. Theists shouldn't you be making the world a better place for your Creator's people? Atheists shouldn't you be trying to help advance science so individual human will never have to fear death?

P.S. If my last three questions anger you or you if you insult the opposite view because of this post then you have proven you are a shell of a human filled with Hate, Arrogance, and Issues.

Why even put it in a game thread? I got a better idea, Go to church. Go tell somebody who actually even gives a crap. But well said MoonColony, Hopefully people will get the point.

Let's say you're a smoker. You smoke two packs a day. You've been doing this for five years. I, your friend, finally work up my courage, and I start telling you to stop smoking. You say "no, I like smoking" and I say back "but it's killing you", and this goes on and on for a while.

Would you say that I hate you for telling you not to smoke?

Argument doesn't imply hatred.

Conviction should not be mistaken for hatred.

Even scientists need some down time, you know.

you just need 1 thing.

If you wan't people to listen and understand your views, then do that by first listening and understanding their views!

Bravo, somebody speaks truth. United to the further seperation from our part-animal, part-something-else existance.

I believe that some of the threads that you speak of were started by strange and or sick individuals that want to start a huge fight, and they most often succeed. (i.e. the thread titled ".../or why god is nonesense", I forgot the first half )

I think the problem is that although there are many respectfull and intelligent people who participate in said arguments, there is always one or two people who take it too far, they insult the other side. Thats when the flameing starts. Like in the Nazi Earth thread, someone came in and bashed Christianity in a total off-topic rant.

I agree with you MoonColony13, atleast up until those last questions. It is unhealthy in the extreme to have such a focused existence. What you propose (atheists focusing on science and theists focusing on the church) is autism.

Hippie.

Just kidding. Well written MoonColony13. I agree these religous threads are just battlegrounds for flame wars. I said something just like what you wrote in the flamewar threads. Only to be completely ignored. Then I gave up and left them to their incessant fighting over who is right and who is wrong.

I share your veiw MoonColony, and I expressed it many times, tried again and again but to no avail. I suppose it is because what drives a war is that both sides think that their fight is justified and the other is wrong.

Maybe this thread is destined to become a battleground too about who is right and who is wrong. Lets hold our ground on this one.

Often it about the desire to be a winner. If it's a game, debates, keeping up with the Jones, making a lot of money, everyone has the desire to be a winner and hate to lose. (here's where the hate often comes from) Just look at billions of dollars put in sports and watch grown men cry when they lose a game. In the end it's just a game.
Also As Solomon pointed out in Ecclesiastes everything that man does "under the sun" is vain. For in the end, death makes us all losers. (How does a wise man die? like a fool) Solomon is mostly dealing with life "under the sun" and not considering life here after.

I think that remark of Solomon was more of a lament about the activities in life seeming pointless? And that is a scary conclusion from somone given such great wisdom by God!

If you think about what was exciting and fun when you were a child, and how those things become less interesting and fun as you get older and wiser, then it is easy to understand how a super smart person like Solomon could end up saying as above.

well, Kryo shut at least 2 of them down today and suggested anyone interested in continuing take it over to joeuser.

and as for this discussion, i have but one thing to say, which i'm borrowing from Voltaire:

"Judge a man by his questions rather than his answers."

better to judge a man by his actions.... although that is not possible in a forum so -see above!

I totally agree.

Well, besides the last 3 questions. I mean, (A)Theists still need to have fun once in awhile.

if by "they" you mean the forces of the US gov't, then yes, it would be a miracle if they caught bin Laden - at all.

If you are really interested in stopping the perceived hate, at least on this forum, then please simply stop posting about it. It's not like anything is going to get resolved here, you are only perpetuating the argumentative flaming. If you want a really lively debate on the topic, take it up on the joeuser.com forums instead. You'll see some of the same faces, and people there eat this stuff up.

sheesh, lighten up. the recent posts have been digressions, jokes. if i had the option to not bump a thread when merely making a joke, i'd use it.

but expecting everyone here to talk solely about GC2 while here would be like asking people in a supermarket to restrict their conversation to topics only concerning food.

your reply had nothing to do with 'stopping the hate.' you merely want to feel less annoyed because this website isn't exactly what you'd have in your perfect world. but thanks for soapboxing.

We just argue to understand each other and to increase knowledge. If anything, if my posts were ever flaming it is because a post was flaming toward me first. Many times, I have had aeitheists flat out call or imply that I am a stupid idiot for believing Near Death Experiences are possible of a genuine after-life. I provide counter-argument, but if someone insults me or assualts the Stanley Tarrant fortress, they better have at least 4 times the troops because I will defend my belief against petty flaming with the ferocity of the 300 Spartans decended from Hercules Himself. However, if we speak reasonably towards each other, then I am not like this.

LOL

i guess by 'they' i mean anyone who actually films Bin Laden playing soccer or engaging in any other activity just for some simple fun.

I brought up the issue because my impression of people like Bin Laden leaves me to believe they would consider anything 'fun' to be a sin. Which is kinda sad if true and basically means there is really no point to even bother being borne in the first place.

Thats the problem. With Politics and Religion, arguably uniquely in the grand scheme of things, they are very much conceptual topics where grand theory can go wild with lots of easily available ammunition - Google yaddie yadda. The latter opens the door to the Grandstander who is there for reasons other than the topic in hand. That causes great irritation and understandable defensive reactions. As was wisely said, if those topics spawned people speaking "reasonably" there wouldnt be an issue. Unfortunately that rarely happens with those topics without a few Grandstanders appearing.

There's an old saying in traditional Clubs, and military Officers Messes:

"Never discuss Women, Politics or Religion at the bar"

i always try to question impressions like that when they occur to me. the thing about him i can't imagine is how he could possibly orchestrate such destruction, if he indeed did - but i can't imagine how the leaders of nations find it in themselves to do it either, and i've seen them at least appearing to have fun (i intellectually know they believe they'll do more good than bad in the long run, and i believe terrorists believe the same things about their own motives - i have trouble imagining myself being able to do either thing in reality; but video games are fun).

It, (what you speak of) is called Human Nature. For an excellent source in attempting to define Human Nature check out Shakespeare he has Human Nature honed to a fine, sharp, deadly point.

Bye-the-by, a really excellent comment. If only it were possible to live by it!

Best,
