Do any of you do this? Or am I insane?

When I play Galatic Civilization II I watch "Babylon 5" or "Firefly."

When I play World at War I put in an appropriate movie like "Band of Brothers" or "A Bridge too Far" or "Das Boot."

When I play World of Warcraft I usually have Monty Python's "Holy Grail" going in the background.

Does anyone else try to kinda set the mood like that?

Here...quick, put this white jacket on. I know the sleeves are a bit long, but not to worry...
Sorry pal, just having some fun with ya.

If anything I usually just mellow out with a cup of tea or maybe put on some jazz or blues music playing lightly in the background.
As a rule I just like to focus on the game itself without any distractions (I get enough of those throughout the work day).
I just had an idea... maybe putting on Holst's "The Planets" might rouse me into that empire building frame of mind!
I'll have to give it a try one night... ya, that's the ticket!

Thanks for posting Caeili, a good topic actually.

Cheers!

I usually watch tv when I play GalCiv2, though not necessarily a sci-fi show. I also play Halo CE occasionally, but I don't turn on the tv because Halo is a more intense game (or at least I ignore it if it is on).

I don't do anything. I normally end up watching my fleets rip the enemy to shreds!

I put on Lynard Skynard. Nothing sets the mood for galacic genocide like Free Bird!

Freebird? heh...ummm..freebird?!?

Winamp and GC2 make a great combo. Something a little fiercer than freebird though

Mozarts Requiem, or Carmina Burana for me I also listen to some of the songs from Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children (Those Who Fight (Further), Black Water, and of course One Winged Angel) while I play.

I tend to blast Ride of the Valkyries on max volume while watching my fleets and soldiers rip the enemy to shreds.

...or actually, I don't, it just seemed like a cool thing to say.
What music is currently running doesn't really depend on what I'm doing/what game I'm playing. I either just put every song I have in randomized order, or play an album I haven't heard in a while or I just plain feel like playing.

Movies... I don't watch them. If I wanted plots, I'd play an RPG!

I don't know why, but Final Fantasys were never meant to be movies. I thought Advent Children was just awful.

I would love a StarCraft movie. "Its a Zergling Lester, smaller type of Zerg" "I love you Sarge" "Thank God for Cold-Fusion!"

You guys know a WarCraft movie is in the works? Also, South park season 10 is out. I finally got to see the famous South Park World of Warcraft episode.

Ah South Park, unfortunately the animation is so cheap it really should be a radio program!

Starship Troopers (the movie) was pretty close to Starcraft. The weaponry and personal armor of the marines, the battleships and other spaceships resembled a lot of the game, and the bugs were much like the zerg. Throw in some Protoss and a bit more storyline and viola! Protoss were always my favorite anyhow

I can't argue with you there.....

The cheap animation really adds to the humor.

bingo!

I will never forget that bunker defence part, the most awesome combat moment i have ever seen!!!

Yes the soldier bugs in starship troopers look like the zerg soldier bugs but at least the humans are given the ultimate advantage in starship troopers because of technology whereas human technology in starcraft is not given the credit it deserves in the storyline.

I don't ususally have anything going on in the backgraound. I get too busy with the game to pay attention.

On the other hand if I try to snaek in a few turns while the kids are still up, i'll get a bunch of "Daaaaaaad"'s every few seconds.
