What do you like about Sins?

What do you like about Sins?

So we don't accidently remove it

Hey all you space rats!,

As weird as it may seem, it'd be great if everyone could post here all the things they like about Sins since we are now focusing on non-technical issues. The reason for this is we don't want to accidently remove the cool, fun and exciting stuff as we go about adding in new features, fixing bugs, balancing and trying out ideas. If you don't let us know we have no idea what IS working (the other threads are already giving a great idea of what isn't working ).

Thanks for all your help,
Blair

Being a big space fighter fan, this game is a god-send for me. I've always loved things like freespace, empires at war, homeworld and a special mention to haegmonia only a few of these ever managed to get the truely epic feel the genre deserved.

In a wierd way, this game gives me the similiar feel to freespace - the stary/nebula backgrounds really remind me of that game... Ah god I loved freespace xD

I just adore how one second you can be managing a space battle, then zoomed out looking at a collection of worlds and a glittering star and even better I only get a single drop of lag when 100 + ships are duking it out in a glorious space battle.

The visuals have to be the best thing, Though I do wish they'd let me get a bit more indepth with the colony managment, building and micro of fleets a bit more.

sins beta 2 is great its better than most full games iv played lol and its just so sexy looking at ur fleet pooning everyone it would just be a draem come tru if the vasari came in the next beta    also u had me at RTS space empire game iv been waiting for a space empire game in real time turn based is ok but it gets crap after a while playing with chess pieces its much better to look at your newly constructed super sexy cap ship owning every one i like small fleets that are strong cos then it feel like each one of your ships is important and you can name emm all after stuf u like such as the bismark thats y id like the vasari and they remind me of the asguard from stargate with thier super good tek also 1 more thing make that tripple cannon on the Marza shoot cap ships that would be soo cool and maby have less missles from its battries but have the like torpedoes that move slow not many of them maby like 10 at 1s and make emm hit hard that would look cool and homeworldish i love the torpedoes on homeworld they look so nice when they are blowing up stuf

I like how the ships all have a different primary purpose and there is no one type of really powerful ship that's good at everything. It's good that even the powerful cap ships are vulnerable to certain types of attack (like bombers).

I also like all the customization options that the game already has. I'd love to see even more, especially as far as the map goes. Maybe let the user define the general "friendliness" of the planets' environment? A harsh environment could consist of mostly volcanic or ice planets with very few terran ones. At the opposite end, almost all the planets would be terran. Might also be fun to add a small number of superior-environment planets (like the high-level planets in galciv2) to the maps. These planets could offer serious advantages as far as population/logistics/etc. goes, giving the factions a strong incentive to fight over them.

Yea i like that but not all cap ships should have no aa for example the carrier.

I like a lot of stuff about the game that people have already posted, but my favorite ship is the TEC carrier. So if anything give it more starting fighters or AA like some people said, but don't take the ship out.

I really like the scale of the game, ie. the size difference between the ships, fighters planets. Although imho the planets and stars could be a bit larger, especially the stars.

Me likes watching fighter and bomber battles.

did you extend the fighter/bomber trails? if so , that looks AWESOME!

back on topic: I am really enjoying the reflections of the sun on the ships, and how dark the other side of the ship away from the sun looks, except for the little window lights

In XP they are in C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\Screenshots. This, along with some other FAQ's were appended to the last patch notes and will be updated on the website FAQ soon.

What I like about Sins, as of 0.70[b].013:

1) The scale, as most people have already mentioned

2) The music, really represents the atmosphere of the game well

3) Capital ships going BOOM

4) Game Stability & Graphics

5) Having a uber-powerful fleet...
- phase jumping into enemy territory and watching the enemy flee cowardly
- ganging up on a single enemy unit and blasting it to a trillion pieces
- slowly taking over the galaxy planet by planet, star by star

6) Pirates!!! (Provides the only challenge right now, even with pirates off, the AI is horridly weak)

7) Black Market

8) Cap ship specialties

9) Empire window concept

10) Ability to zoom out to view at a planet and galaxy level

11) Mod-friendly

I love many things about sins.. all of the above actually:) But the one thing I love the most is the gravity wells around the planets.. great idea.. also the star lanes for traveling:) I also love the ease of clicking on a ship from the menu tree to give it orders even if im half the galaxy away from it, and I love how the carriers have a little update cross on them when you need to get new fighters or bombers for them, and the capitol ships have the same little update icon on them so you know you need to manage their upgrades.. most cool:)I think you guys totally rock!

when the carrier turns its broadside against its enemy, love that

Just got the beta2 last night and I have to say I'm surprised, I wasn't expecting to like the game so much. It has good elements from several games I liked (one that comes to mind is hegemonia) and visually it's stunning. I like how it feels big and the little touches of the traffic around the planet sphere - It makes the planets seem inhabited

Keep up the good work.

personally, i like winning. if you could max this effect as much as possible I would be very happy.
also, the customer support, please dont cut that

I like:
the ship explosions as well as the size of the fleets that can be made.
the scale of the game (neither too much nor too little micro)
the way it looks when you have 100 ships jump at teh same time
moddability is a major plus
I like how the game doesnt magically stop once you open up the resource/diplomacy screen

had more, but i forgot

After playing Galatic Civilizations I & II it has to be real 3D space ...

The graphics overall are great.

It is like the old Star Wars game 'Rebellion' (Supremacy in UK). You have planets and hyperspace jumppoints. I wish it also had the ground troop invasions too, but maybe in the future. Bombing a planet is pretty easy.

The Sins game is played more slowly than these new silly RTS games. I like a strategic / Tactical SMART game that takes time to win instead of a click fest.

The ships remind me some of Babylon 5 series. Very cool!

I hope you gives us a AI that will seriously be a challenge (ala GalCiv series). I have faith enough to buy into the beta phase of the game development.

For me, it is all of the little details that make the game fantastically immersive and fun.
The coms from the ship captains when they prepare for jump and when a ship is built are excellent. The pirates comments are fun and they make you want to go after them.
The graphics all have little tweaks that make them more interesting. The waves of missiles heading from a battle group to a target, the engine trails, how the bombers and fighters attack then veer off to line up another attack run. These are all details that I have discovered and that draw me in like I'm reading a good book. I keep zooming in and out of battles so that I can discover more.
IMHO, the more of these little details you can put into the game, the more immerzive and interesting it will be. Don't misunderstand, I am already more than glad that I spent my money well with this game (hey, with GalCiv I and II, how could I have gone wrong) but more little details, auditory, visual, and otherwise couldn't hurt!

I have played several games and all I can say is that if this is the beta version i am stunned. Its the little things that make the game, like the load bar changinf colors or the random planets behind the different menu screens. The traffic aaround the planets also adds a very nice touch. Keep the skyboxes, music, traffic and artifact boosts.

One thing i would like to see comes from Gal Civ is the ability to desgin your own ships. Otherwise I eagarly await the next beta and can't wait for the final game.
