What do you like about Sins?

So we don't accidently remove it

Hey all you space rats!,

As weird as it may seem, it'd be great if everyone could post here all the things they like about Sins since we are now focusing on non-technical issues. The reason for this is we don't want to accidently remove the cool, fun and exciting stuff as we go about adding in new features, fixing bugs, balancing and trying out ideas. If you don't let us know we have no idea what IS working (the other threads are already giving a great idea of what isn't working ).

Thanks for all your help,
Blair

I think the battles are awesome as is the music, the more I play the more Im really starting to get into this game, and it has a lot of promise, but yes it needs a bit of fine tuning here and there, but hopefully there will be time for that later, especailly once we have access to the other two races, I think the graphics are really good, can't think much of any real downers with this game so far, the beta is stable, more so then I expected, as from beta testing with egosoft, I was expecting a very bugged game, but I am very surprised on how stable this game is, well done to the devs,

There is a lot to like, but I'll list one that probably won't get mentioned often.

The different "skybox" colors. I love the different universe colors and that it's random, and I have not seen an offensive color yet, although I do have my favorites.

Which leads me to a question... If you have multiple star systems, are the skybox colors the same on ALL systems once the game is generated? If so - I wonder how the devs would feel about making each star system roll a random number for color. I realize it would be aesthetic only, but would give each solar system it's own special "feel".

I also really like the the stars having a direct effect on the light side and dark side of planets from a graphic standpoint. Again, this is little stuff that probably won't get mentioned often.

Each star type (blue, yellow, green, orange) has a list of possible skybox art + colors. Therefore it is likely that each solar system in a multi solar system game will have its own skybox as you zoom in. As you zoom out you only see the depths of space (black + stars). e.g If you conquer a light blue skybox system you can then move onto another system and find yourself in a dark orange skybox system

Yar, I be like n'the way the pirates be talkin'! (now we need a pirate smiley)

I really be like n'the way the ships be lookn. I really like that one that be lookn like some UFO or piece of bologna. I made me first mate walk the blank though, when I heard there weren't be any Advent (I think they look the coolest, but I can wait).

The game be lookn great (even though this hunk of chunk has a Nvidia 5200, sorry that I'd was sayn that I had the 5500, scurvy be do'n these things to me), battles are cool (espically with GIBS!!!! In beta 1 the only gibs I ever did see were those of a Broadcast Station.)

The only thing that be make'n me mad would be chase'n ships all over the place (ok, back to real english). One time the enemy's flag ship jumped to one of my planets, and my closest fleet was 3 jumps away. I had system defenses, and that ship stayed there but as soon as some of the fleet started to jump in he jumped another planet deeper into my territory. I had to chase it everywhere! Eventually I caught him by building a space inhibitor. This also happened with pirates once, too.

30 frigates jump outsystem, 5 frigates jump back insystem. Shark outside the system.

as requested

But for what i like? hmm..

-The new Black/blue skybox *droools* need i say more? heh
-I really like the idea of fleet points, maybe they have to be adjusted, but i like it. And the same goes for logistic and tactical points.
-The graphics are becomming VERY nice to look at. Keep up the good work
-Like that we only got a few capital ships, and alot of frigats and a few cruisers. Makes a more interesting game.
-The modding capabilitys, even though i dont mod, i like what it can bring.
-The music cant wait to hear the Advent and Vasari soundtracks
-The idea for pirates yaaarr. They should have some kind of base, just hidden or something. And by destroying it, they will leave you alone for an amount of time.
-The Bloom and metalic feel of ships
-Depris, i just hope one can salvage it at some time.
-And ofcourse the left Empire tree, but i dont see alot of use for the info report cards. Maybe if we could click them, and click one of the reports, it would make it alot better
-Ironclad & Stardock you rock

That cracked me up, so dry.

what I like:

- So far the game is pretty balance, the limit cap and the mechanic behind it is reasonable and flexible.

- Capital ship orientation and weaponry come in good variety.

- The way the phase lane is set up: force the player not only have to guard the front door, but the back yard as well. The map lay out I think offer realistic tactic and strategy.

- The control panel is clean and intuitive, let me do exactly what I want with minimum hassle. Space RTS tend to have a panel with too many useless buttons and weird layoyt, Sins doesn't

- Planet traffic animation.

- The sound effect at maximum is impressive (especially when something is blown up).

i would blow out my windows, if i did that

I like the scope, and scale of the game. You are not confined to just 1 single map.

With the new logistics system of beta 2 now every world on the map becomes important, and of strategic value. Rush tactics dont work, and thats a good thing IMO.

Them pesky Psycho Rampaging Pirates!

Each now ship has a role, and function that benefits an entire fleet. The scouts are now SCOUTS, and you can use em as such. All seems pretty balanced

Razing a planet Just that sound of the Marzas cannon going off sounds like victory! ( we just need a pirate base to point it at now )

The artwork, and attention to details of the game is absolutely brilliant.

The empire tree.

The Kol getting angry.

The fact that even though my system barely meets the minimum requirements the game runs smooth on max settings (until late game that is).

So much!

Destroying an enemies capital ship.

The joy of watching 20 or so spam-carriers jump in system and deploy fighters/bombers destroying gauss cannons (but not the horror of watching them sit within the range of attack).

The radio response of my space marines!

Oh, the blue/black background. SO pretty!

I like the logistic and tactic points per planet idea, but it needs some thing.

The ship cap is the same. I like the idea, however it enlargement.

Being able to assign escorts that will stay with the carriers as the fighters bomb away, that ACTUALLY stay assigned to protection.

Oh there is much more, but my next game awaits.

Everything, but I want more, I mean, will you be able to build structures inside the planet? I mean, you zoom in and build the ground defenses, citys, etc.
And, the game should have a City Ship too, like, if you lose all the planets, you'll still have the city ship that support your life, get an idea from Atlantis, from Stargate Atlantis Serial.

This may sound funny, but when you have a massive fleet aligning for a phase jump, and when the different ships start to report in and are ready to go for a jump, the ship captains all give the green light with a different way of saying "ready for phase jump". I think it provides a great immersive quality to the game, I know its probably one of the most minor aspects of the game, but to hear those captains give the green light, then the phase gates start opening up for like 50+ ships, its pretty awesome zoomed up!

Oh, and siege frigates blowing the crap out of a planet with multiple warheads, thats pretty awesome too...

What do you like about Sins?

hm... lets see
1) graphics are quite the shiznit
2) game is stable, despite my rig having only 2/3 the processing power its supposed to "require"
3) big "empire" feel
4) the game appears to come in various stages, its not merely "the same old" for a whole game (although all games appear to run similarly)
5) nice tech tree
6) battles are spectacular
7) the new concept is quite amazing, surprised it hasnt been done before
8) capital ships feel like a serious investment, especially high level ones
9) pirates are fun as adversaries, the other empire-AIs need that sort of intelligence
10) balancing is quite impressive for a game 200 days from being uncovered
11) the newer, more open phaselines make the game progress far quicker
12) will obviously make a great multiplayer game (if the speed issue can be adressed)
13) the "play it your own way" style (while recently stomped upon) I'm sure will make its full comeback to the stage of beta1
14) corvettes play a strategically important role, rather than simply being buffed-frigs
15) scale of the game is perfect
16) empire window is a powerful tool, perfectly designed for the game. it could use some upgrades (and the ability to be minimized) but its quite the godsend in times of crisis.

The sound the Marza makes when it is shooting off its Raze Planet... that BANG-whistle. Sends a shiver through my soul. Don't you dare change it.

let me tell you, in 5.1 channel surround sound , it makes the room vibrate, also the sound of a capital ship exploding is AMAZING

-Nice music (but want more of it)
-Your fleet entering the system from jump in formation - Epic
- battles :
bomber swarms
planetary bombardment
Cap ships special weapons (especially rocket salvo ,radion bomb ,rze planet, gauss gun)
-Nice planet animation and details.
-Stable
All of the above =D!

But especially, the sound and music are already top-notch. Don't change these. (except maybe for adding more of the same). And the Modability already has potential too!

Maybe extend the explosion sequences of all ships, small ships make 1 little pop, capitals make a few... Maybe double the time they take once they start to explode...

The fact that the game is this stable!... It hasent crashed on me, at all, And its using 98% of my ram (1gb, other stick, kinda, died ><) And i can freely minimize it any time i need, i don't know how you managed it but nice!

Thanks for the feedback. Not only does this give us a good idea of what should stay in the game, it inspires the team to create even more of what you want.

-yes, more music on the way
-yes, more wild explosions/weapon effects
-yes, logistics is being tweaked
-yes, the empire managment tree is under evaluation

The other day I had a massive fleet in a heavily defended system just sort of sitting around waiting to attack. The enemy sent their own massive fleet into my system. An epic battle ensued. At the beginning of the battle, I locked onto a bomber squad and zoomed in real close.

I watched the entire battle from the perspective of the bomber squad. I watched six bomber groups all descend on one enemy carrier in one fluid movement launching their missiles and breaking away.

I watched the bomber squad fly between frigates and capital ships firing across each other all the while whizzing between flak fire, laser beams and explosions. It felt like being in a space opera. Keep that in, and try and make it even better. If that's possible.
