I looked into it, but got very mixed feelings about it... Some people thought it was extremely boring, others thought it was fantastic. So far I am in a state of skepticism about it. I'm thinking I will have to try it out myself. Don't know yet though.

I rather like EVE, but I haven't had time to play it.

Taking the title literally, though, the first MMO I played that made me forget that it was one was A Tale in the Desert. Because I didn't see a single other character in the hour that I played. Lots of ugly sculptures dotted the landscape. I uninstalled it right afterwards.

3.5 years of Eve history here, though it's off and on but mostly off. Those subscription fees add up very fast.

Eve is the best game for PC, ever. And that is saying a lot coming from someone with over 25 years of regular gaming history. It is simply the versatility - something for everyone - unbeatable. It's not a bad game overall, though not for everyone, but the vastness and complexity just adds to it. They have been building and balancing it up over the years and the hard work shows in the results.

And if you want to go the combat route, I don't think there is another game with as versatile ship setups. Well, there is always the few archetypical setups that are popular for a given class of combat ships at a time - as the game changes so does balance and people will fit another class of modules on their ships when the said class becomes competitive again.

By the way, don't complain about "good ship for PvP". A tech1 cruiser or an interceptor works quite fine even for many of the top dogs of the game. I think you can get them in 1 and 2 weeks, respectively, or even faster. Getting all the character skills to be good would probably take a year, but very active players pick up quite impressive combat player skills in just a few months.

If you know where to look, you can land into a great RP or combat corp... total blast and a distinctive corp can be a nice selection of the best of the Eve population.

The downside besides the cost is that it can be very time-consuming if you really try to get into it. Personally I do 1-3 month stints in Eve and then come back for other great games - came to GalCiv II straight from Eve - for the long periods in between.

Wow that's harsh. :*). Actually a lot of the non-pay free MMORPGs give me that feeling. I give ATID tips for trying something different, and having an actual economy in detail, but the zero combat aspect is what kills is, plus the weirdos chatting about scupltures. WoW would be tons better if it took some of the economy ideas of ATID.

I've played EVE for about 2 months and decided that its not the game for me. The monthly fees is what killed things, that and the need to keep track of your skill trainings to develop you character quickly is what killed it for me. Its a shame, I kinda liked the game.

I've recently started playing "X3: REUNION" by egosoft. It has a steep learning curse, but it appears to be a good replacement for those who want a good space sim.

Eve is a nice game, but the effort you have to put in as time goes on, in my opinion at least, is not worth it. I guess this is the case for all the MMORPGS out there right now, but it still bugs me. Any game that becomes a job is not a game I'm interested in playing.

The only one I've really enjoyed and played for a while was Asheron's Call, but sadly a lot of my friends had left and life just didn't allow me the time to play regularly.

EVE is a great game its only flaw is that it offers practically nothing to the non pvp crowd, and limits how much pve you can do. If you want ANY involvement in the more interesting aspects building your own bases, advanced mining and crafting etc.. you have to go low sec sooner or later its unavoidable. Which also means you will get spanked REAL quick if you dont know what to do, stand still too long, stop to mine, dont know what to expect, or arent into pvp, and considering ships aint free you can lose weeks of invested time and enjoyment in a matter of seconds of ignorance so some 10 year old can have a couple of moments chuckling at your expense as his blatantly overwhelmingly powerful ship can reduce you to a few isk worth of worthless salvage to him, not to mention those who dont just take your ship, extort your cargo or also pod kill you too for kicks.

It is im sad to say the only flaw I found with EVE, and not being a pvp'er myself and having no interest in it, it also means that EVE has only a limited shelf-life for people like myself, which is a shame as it should and coud cater to both crowds equally.

i would recommend it for those who dont mind pvp though as it is beautiful, easy and great fun

To me that game is just too big, and it makes you feel so small and not important, tried the 14 day trail and will not be paying out a subscription on such a game

Once I read about the multiple cheating scandals that the people running the game were caught up in, that pretty much killed any chance that I would ever try it.

First thing I have to say about EVE: Best graphics. Ever. I have never seen a game that is more...is beautiful strong enough a word? The guys who did the Cistne Chapel's ceiling and the Alhambra have NOTHING on whoever's drawing those ships for CCP. I sometimes watch the trinity trailer just for the graphics.

That said, a fifteen-year-old kid juggling three AP classes hardly can devote time to breathing twnety for hours a day, let alone playing a game as deep and complex as EVE online. This is a game for someone on a two-year sabbatical who has plenty of hours to devote to the game. Be warned: this is a timesink. I didn't even get through the 14 day free trial.

Besides FFXI, I think that EVE was one of the few MMORPGS I really enjoyed. I don't have much time for MMORPGS anymore, but if I did, I'd be playing one of the two.

Vendetta online.....

Been playing this a while and love it.
Universe is big enough in my opinion and the graphics are "ok" but nothing special.

What makes it for me is this:

Very stable, constantly being improved, great community if very small.

I think this game has a lot of potential, it`s not huge at the moment but well worth checking out if you want to actually pilot your ship and get involved.

With only a few people online at any one time at the moment it`s easy to play alone, though if you join a group or go looking for a scrap it`ll be there.

The chat is friendly and often funny, making a fun gaming experience.

Can`t say much more than that....
