Empire thread --> The Gerontocracy

The Gerontocracy is here, and the universe will never be the same.

This empire is intended for players over the age of 30, hence the name of the empire. Judging by other threads, that means about 89% of us. For that other 11%, my advice is to hurry up and get older; in the meantime, though, there are plenty of other empires to join, even if they're not nearly as awesome as we are.

Click here to join this empire.

OldStatesman, I have sent you an invite. Welcome aboard!

Thanks!

I just bought and moved into a new house - so pardon if I don't contribute for a week or two...I'll try and up my output, but have always been a slow player. I have been playing the DA campaign until 1.6 goes final...had the AMD issue and have not wanted to chance a funky MV submission.

Take your time, Oldstatesman. We're all old, it's a given that we move slowly.

I received the following message in my Gmail account, which is set to receive GalCiv2 stuff (though this is the first time I've seen this). For some reason, there was no userid attached, so I have no idea who sent it or how to respond to them. There isn't anything similar in my inbox here on the site itself, so I'm rather confused. Did one of you send this?

"Hi ghostwes - wanted to touch base and find out why I didn't see anything ref: joining the Gerontacracy Empire yet. Do I need to have email to me turned on? If so, I didn't, but I will turn it on now in case."

If this was you, post something here in response and I will add you immediately.

Doh - forgot to mention a name. I suppose I assumed there would be one included for me. Anyway, that was a few days ago and I managed to figure out that the invite was sent to my email address and not to a message box here (regardless of my account settings) so please ignore that one.

According to the poll results on the side, it seems that most GalCiv players get their game news from Usenet. Usenet?!? How many people under 35 have even heard of Usenet? Craziness. Myself, I love Usenet, but still...

Embird (Makara), welcome to the empire, ma'am -- your fantastic scores will be a great boon to our growing empire.

I see that we also have fresh wins submitted by Brogan the Bad and Simian X. Good job, guys!

I managed to submit my first crippling level game yesterday. Honestly, it didn't seem much more difficult than painful; I think I got lucky with positioning etc. Still, feels good to get higher level difficulties completed, though, surprisingly, the game did not give as many points as I expected it to. I'm not quite sure how the scoring works yet.

If anyone else happens to be reading this, please feel free to join our growing empire (assuming you are 35+). The more the merrier.

Oh? Usenet? i think I skipped that one, I'll check it out though. Maybe next week [sigh] I've been a lot more active in the forums here the last day or so. Mystikmind is wearing me out, I think I'm getting a headache from thinking too much.

Welcome to all new members. I was just thinking yesterday what a great boost a few more master-minds would be to our meta and altmeta scores. OMG! I just looked at Makara's scores on the metaverse. 4 games with a score of 155661! I'm definitely impressed! When that posts to the altmeta The Gerontacracy should jump up a notch for sure, ghostwes.

I'm working on challenging atm ... I'll keep plugging away. Hey, want some coffee? I'll get it for you ... [stifled sob]

Indeed, we have just moved into fifth place.

Of course, if you look at the scores for the top three empires, we still have a lot of catching up to do heh. This must be how Liechtenstein feels.

By the way, I have collected some of the best hints from this forum and compiled them into about a five page document. If you want some help with improving your game on higher levels, I can send this your way if you like. I think it has definitely helped me, though I seem to do a few things differently than most (I love military starbases, for one).

Sure, and thanks. Can you email it to me? I have email to member turned on in my account settings. That might be just the thing I need to get me out of this slump I'm in.   See ya tomorrow, I'm going to get some sleep. Thanks again.

Got it, no problemo. Already seeing a big jumpstart on the 'challenging' level game I'm working on thanks to your assistance. I've only done a few turns but man, I have at least twice as many colonies, and several treaties ...

[clicking heels] I was hoping to report a victory, Herr Emperor, but alas, fate has thwarted me yet again ... temporarily! My next report will be Victory, or death! [trumpets and drums][flags waving bravely]

One old bat heading your way...

Hey guys.. remember in the good old days before electrons where recycled?

That was just after rocks where invented.

I'm glad to see this get off the ground. At 54 I'm certainly of an appropriate age, however I'm already committed to an empire. I do certainly wish all here good luck and want to reiterate DethAdder's reminder of the open offer of a private forum for your new empire at the Core.

Let me also wish you luck!

Bakka, I have sent you an invite. Welcome aboard! (There's a science fiction bookstore in Toronto called Bakka -- name comes from Dune, if I am not mistaken?)

Thank you for the kind wishes, Mumblefratz and Purge.

ElWhop0, glad that you found it helpful. When I have time, I plan to compile all of that information into some kind of coherent intermediate level strategy guide. Judging from comments throughout these forums, that seems like something that people would appreciate.

got it thanks ghostwar. though i seam to be having issues with my isp's cache server.

Didn't know about the Dune reference. (has been 20 years since i read it.)

For me bakka stands for Bloody hard yakka getting on the internet. Cause at the time I was trying to get an Amiga 500 with a direct connection modem to connect. (it didn't work )
I've used bakka as a handle since then which was around 1994-95.
Also been told it means idoit/silly in Japanese
Bakka'n is also something to do with professional wailers at middle east funerals
Tis a town in Russa or finland i think.

Looks like they changed the name of the store since I was last there; it is now called Bakka-Phoenix. Neat place, in any case.

Here's a question ... I just finished a Metaverse game, but there was no option to post it at the end. It's always been automatic before, when I won one ... how to post a finished game to the Metaverse when it seems to have decided it wasn't a Metaverse game? I have the endgamesave.sav to re-load. (20k points I was hoping to add to our score).

Thanks for any assist
Huh, that sucks -- 20k is a respectable score, too!

Might want to post your problem in its own thread so one of the Stardock people will see it; not sure if they'll notice it here.
If you get a metaverse game that doesn't submit, try [email protected] to see if they can get it to go.

Whoa, I stand corrected. Kryo is omniscient, apparently.

Kryo, I'm thinking of a number between 1 and 10... what is it?
Thanks, kryo and of course (my) Emperor ghostwes. I sent off an email and included a copy of the endgamesave file with it a little while ago. ... not only is kyro omniscient, but telepathic too! awesum

[edit]I must be dyslexic ... K R Y O ... that's the second or third time i mis-spelled it all-in-all[/edit]
