Hope to finally submit my latest game soon. I missed the whole month of may and most of june.

I've only got the one character, and I should be finishing my first real TA Metaverse game soon.

Only one character here. Any more would make me dizzy. Attention span is already small.

Well, I have a character in three different empires, but I've decided that this strategy wasn't really helping me or the other empires score-wise, so I've pretty much settled on using one character/one empire in order to focus my efforts... and that empire would be us!!

Glad to hear it, particlewave. I only have the one character as well. Never really made sense to me to have more than one, other than for practical purposes for the league, and that makes less sense now than it did.

All that said, I'm so busy with my new job in a new city (I just moved back to Toronto) that I barely have time to play, much less contribute much to our little empire. I don't know if there's a way to sign the empire over to someone who is able to pay more attention to things than I can... anybody know?

I think I'm going to create a new character just for playing with ZYW's. I ill still put it on this empire but getting al thoses games with big scores won't be a true reflection of what my "real" character is capable of. Especially that ZYW's are played on suicidal; I don't want my average difficulty artificially raised.

However this is just because i want my character to show what progess I've made in the game. I'll still yet the ZYW's affect our empire score for the better.

I think you are referring to administrative duties if I'm not mistaken, such as accepting new members, invites, senator status appointments or heaven forbid... disciplinary actions.
I'm not sure if this is possible or even necessary, but maybe someone with more "tech savvy" can answer this one.

Nobody but the emperor can perform any of those administrative tasks. If you set the empire status to "open" though, new membership approval is not needed, and people can join at will.

Well, I've got a lot of "higher priority" hopes for 2.0, but this seems like a real gap in the Metaverse functionality. How can you call it an empire with no succession?

If I read ghostwes correctly, we actually only need a Regent for a while--unless this announcement is step 1 to full retirement from the Gerontocrats?

One of my complaints has always been that Senator status doesnt grant any administrative abilities, other than approving new members if the empire isnt "open". They should at least be able to send invites in my opinion. Although, anyone could send out invites over PMs, if not the official Metaverse invites, so that is always an option too.

Ghostwes, the only way for the Gerontocracy to be handed off to someone else completely is for them to have your login and password for your account.

It should already be open, at least as far as clicking to join. The age limitations aren't hard-coded in, of course, nor do I ask people to verify their age in any way. So we should be able to leave things as is for now, I suppose.

Here's an idea (not sure if this would work).

I'm Emperor and sole member of my own lowly little empire which I started a long time ago... but nobody asked to come onboard and I didn't really go on a recruiting drive either... so it just sits, but it is a registered empire in the Metaverse/AltMeta.

Would it be possible to re-direct any new recruits to that empire and then at a later date transfer their characters (scores) back to The Gerontocracy (not even sure if it's legal)?

Think of it as a temporary empire or vassal state whereby I would take care of the admin. duties.

Again, not sure if this would even fly without people losing characters and their scores altogether in the process.
I'm guessing that when you pull out, you lose everything, but maybe someone could correct me on this.

Anyway, just a far-out, wacky idea that's less than half baked, otherwise I say just leave things the way they are presently, until your return.
I think we're a laid back bunch here and can't see anything disasterous happening in your absence.

There's nothing against the rules regarding something like that, but my caveat would be that people only stick around for so long, and may not be around for the future switch back to the Gerontocracy. You would likely have a bunch of members left behind that way. Over 6 months ago, Neilo & I talked a bit about merging the Kzinti & ToE, but with old inactive members, too many would have been lost, so it wouldnt have been much benefit. Only individual people can move their characters around.

I thought briefly about a "holding empire," but I confess to valuing our rank at the AltMeta, and we would lose some scores from folks who are inactive (or just gone for good but still in the scores DB).

Since we're on the honor system about the age thing anyway, it seems OK to leave it open while ghostwes takes a break. There should be at least one old codger around on most days to welcome newcomers.

Hmm. If you mean why are we slipping in the empire ranks, I'm hoping it is just summer vacation time that our score leaders are using more wholesomely than I am.

Or maybe those evil kitty-cats have gotten a mole into the nursing staff who's switching the vitamins for valiums...

Hi folks!

I'm close to finishing my first TotA game, but I have to say that I've been taking my sweet time about it .

Sadly, the summer is rapidly coming to a close and I feel I've squandered a good portion of it doing this, that and the other thing (I love saying that... it confounds me to this very day )

I am only now trying to make up for it (too little, too late I'm afraid).

Oh well, I'll probably start submitting more game scores once I get other responsibilities out of the way and can devote more time and focus to the new expansion... so far, I like what I see btw.

 

Hope everyone (northern hemisphere) had an enjoyable summer.

whoooosh... another month gone and I have managed to submit another game.. 

COOL !  I have a way to go before I finish my game. I'm good for about a game a month too.

I'm in the home stretch of my first (& possibly only) try for an Ascension win, Immense map. I should be able to get it in this month...

I'm more than a little curious as to how the whole Ascension victory is played out (some say it's like going for a tech victory, but with a more aggressive AI nipping at your heels).

I'm about 3/4 of the way through my current game as well and if my free time isn't interrupted I should have no trouble submitting a game by month's end.

It's nice to see that at least a few of us are still active and playing the Metaverse on a regular basis.

I don't know what happened to the sudden halt in scoring by some of our megascorers, but they seemed hell-bent not too long ago. I only hope that you are right GW and they were just enjoying a well deserved summer break and they didn't burn out or get bored with the game... hope to see them back soon as well as our fearless leader/emperor.

 

I like the immence but have to lower the number of planets to stop the ship spam which causes the between turn slow down of the game.  Actually i'm not sure if it's the AI or me slowing the game.  With my luck it's my fault..

Never went away.. (well except for a two week holiday 3000 km away from home to see my grandfather for his 100th's birthday.)

The main reason I drop out of submitting scores is I like to beta test and you can not submit the beta games.
