Torgalian Domination -- Defeated!

Light from Darkness

*
I am going to have my Torgal be a researching race, so that I can try out the strategy put forth by another on this forum *

"WE MUST RISE!" The Torgalian Commandant cried out. "We look up and see darkness where there should be light. We look down and see darkness where there should be light. We look inside our own heads and see darkness. For us to rise we must bring light to the above, the below, and the inside. We will make buildings and study in them! Go, do my bidding! GO!"

The commandant sank into his seat an hour later and listened to his advisors. He then dismissed them all but one that he called Thinker, a smart one to say the least.

"What we to do if this fails Thinker? Where we go if you fail? You die, we live, but how long so?"

Thinker paused for a moment, thinking about just what Than'Al was saying. "We no fail commandant. We live, go up, down, inside, give light to all."

Than'Al seemed content with this and dismissed him as well. Their home planet Urlg had never really done anything before. Thinker was a sly one though and had convinced Than'Al that research was the way to salvation, to light. So, going without hesitation, Than'Al had ordered all production on their only planet to focus entirely on research.

They quickly learned several things, almost simultaneously.

They learned about the concept of engineering, and from that. several years later, the secrets of the Hyperdrive and were beginning to think about other types of propulsion.

Concurrently with this research, they figured that it was impossible that the Torgal are the only ones in the universe, and created a means of univeral communication, a translator.

After the discovery of the universal translator, all research ceased to bear fruit.

It is now the beginning of the year, and Thinker comes in with his report to Than'Al.

"All well commandant!" He says this with a great smile on his face. "We learn soon, I know; and we learn fast if you approve..." He says this last word while holding out a constuction proposal.

"Now we make Think building. We buy one Think building and learn making faster. Cost 342 Big Croz. Location is enhancing to thinking."

"Do approve Commandant?" Thinker asks timidly.

"Yesh, approve." Than'Al says slowly, unsure of what road they are now traveling upon, but also trusting that Thinker is right about this.

Several days pass and the workers of Urlg produce a Think building that can be used at the start of the next week.

In the process, Thinker and his team were hard at work, learning more and more.

At the beginning of the next week Thinker burst into Than'Al's chambers exclaiming "We learn! We think! We do! Big Think building learned, can build if approve?"

"No Thinker, we see Think buildings now, see them work, then build big Think building if work." Than'Al didn't want to disappoint Thinker, but needed to know if this was going to work before subjecting his people to any more of Thinker's ideas.

"Okay, we learn up next!" Thinker then runs off to get working on his new idea. The stars are his conquest, he looks through his lenses at them trying to map them.

Several weeks pass before Than'Al sees Thinker again.

Thinker bursts again into Than'Al's chambers. This time with a scroll, a rather large scroll. On it is a map of all of the local stars. Also on the map are the various planets of the systems.

It showed that there was another planet in the Urlg celestial system that could hold life.

"What this? Send us there!" Than'Al was impressed by Thinker on this one, and decided to go with him in his recommendation to continue on this route of thinking, making their next objective increased sensor range.

Than'Al also wanted the Torgal to explore this new planet, and ordered his engineers to create a ship to transport them there.

His engineers promptly returned a message saying that they were given this same order, just in case, by Thinker about a year before.

Not thinking at the time that it is odd for Thinker to be so....forward, by overstepping his researching boundaries, Than'Al commanded that ship to be fully stocked with citizens and sent to this new planet.

I have to stop this for now, sleep calls!

I understand that the diction of my creatures is....odd But, as they increase their knowledge in communications and certain other things, they will become more well-spoken and be able to talk in a more modern tone:D

I will update this probably tomorrow night. Gnight all

I wrote this part last night, but due to unforeseen problems with the GalCiv2 Forum server(s), I was unable to post it or even access this page.

Now, without further ado
******

On the twenty second day of the year, Than'Al recieved news from the recently landed population the discovered planet. It was good news, everyone survived the journey.

So, what is the name of this new planet? Of course, it is called New Urlg. Nothing is more fitting for it.

Than'Al also was given news from his advisor Thinker that it would still be a few weeks more before they had better range for any ships that they decided to create. This upset Than'Al, but only slightly as he was still excited about the news from the populus of New Urlg.

He ordered immediately the construction of only Think buildings on this planet as well, and authorized the immediate construction of the first one. Mostly to offset and decrease the time it would take, possibly, for Thinker to find out how to increase the sensor range of future ships.

To make it possible to examine the stars that are further away from them then their own system, Than'Al ordered, with the help of Thinker, the creation of See'er ships once the new sensors are discovered. And so Than'Al waited.

Thinker walked into Than'Al's chambers obviously flustered. "Others! Here! Called Drengin, leader Lord Kona."

Not sure what to do, Than'Al decided to have Thinker investigate them as much as possible. "Look flier, learn it!"

Thinker looked into a private viewing screen and saw much about the Drengin ship. He reported what he saw to Than'Al.

The very next week sensors were perfected. Now a proper scout ship can be created!

Thinker supervised the design and construction of the scout ship and discussed with Than'Al what they should try ot learn next. They agreed that they should learn how to increase production on the planets, to keep the citizens happy of course.

That same week, the Torgal were met by the Kroza, and their leader Kiatz. Than'Al was wary of the Kroza and immediately dispatched Thinker to see their ship as well. The Krozan flagship:

Now, Than'Al was becoming impatient with Thinker, they must have a scout ship at least designed very soon.

The See'er ship, Thinker really thought big on this one. Than'Al observed this ship and saw that it, along with having a high range and seeing ability, was cheap. Than'Al wanted to see one lift off from Urlg's newly constructed starport and so ordered and authorized the purchase of the first celestial ship of the Torgalian Empire.

"294 Big Croz!? That almost Think building!" Than'Al was yelling at Thinker, who was trying to explain the expense of building this ship. "Okay, make See'er now..." Than'Al said sullenly and left to go sulk, awaiting his ship.

The next week, Than'Al witnessed his ship, which he named Watcher, rise from the grounds of the Urlg starport into the celestial body. It was ordered to go to the nearest system away from the Drengin and Kroza.

"Watcher, Base. Long trip, ten and three weeks to system." The watcher began its journey and hoped for the best.

Thinker went to Than'Al in search of something new to think about, he had figured out how to increase all sorts of production on the planets, just by improving the under a little. "Now?" Thinker asked Than'Al.

"Monies!" Than'Al exclaimed, "we lose much now..."

So Thinker left, wondering just how he could improve Urlg's and New Urlg's economies.

Several weeks into the Watcher's journey, it observed something interesting, and sent back a report.

"Sensor say knowing, make mine on to be known."

Thinker thought hard about this new discovery, and spoke to Than'Al about what should be done, deciding to make something that can build mines in celest.

"Monies come soon Than'Al!" Thinker exclaimed, being all puffed up with himself for being smart and figuring out how to increase the Torgalian economy. "Drengin citizen ship near also..." he says as an afterthought.

Thinker returned later with the schematic to a base constructor, called the Baser.

Than'Al thought for a short while on whether or not to just buy a Baser, but decided against it. The economy was still in deficit and could probably not handle another hit like even one to buy another See'er.

Thinker didn't want to bother Than'Al with such a trivial detail as how to maximize down usage, so started to learn how on his own.

"I end long trip. See two planets that work. Trip home now" the pilot of the Watcher reported back, along with the coordinates of those two planets.

"No trip back, next system" Thinker ordered the Watcher pilot.

Thinker thought for a short time, and spoke to himself " Than'Al think lot. Need get now...we get now..."

He made a unilateral decision, completely bypassing Than'Al and ordered the immediate construction of a ship to take citizens to those planets.

great to see some pictures, the wording made great sense and i can't wait to read the next part to this. i will definatly be replacing you empire over the torian.

i wont be selling you race or anything so you dont have to worry.

haha, that's good to know, I dont like the idea of the Torgal getting sold (unless it is for an insane profit). I might be able to put the next part of this up tonight or tomorrow night, not sure which. I have to go out for about 8 hours today, so that is 8 hours less that I can play this wonderful game. I have it done, the next part, but it is really short and would like to make it longer. I think that I have played up through August by now, of the first year. I write a lot, and I think that I have chronicled the expansion of this race pretty well thus far. I think that I finally got up to trade...my trade vessal looks cool, i have a compilation picture of it (front, side, top, default views) and it looks nice to me. Kryo's DA mod is a life saver for the extra trade parts. I will work on compiling the pictures, I might be able to get it up before I leave for work

Oh, one other thing! Once I start my wars with the Drengin, Kroza, and I think the Torren are in this one as well >.> I will be using a program called Fraps to make 30 second clips of those battles. I will put them onto my photobucket so that you all can watch:D

I told you this one was gonna be short...

I will work on the next part of this tonight, hopefully it will be up by tomorrow night.

"Watcher, base, report. Drengin citizens in near system. Going with caution." The Watcher's pilot was uneasy about the recent landing of a colony ship on a planet called Lentz V, which is much lower quality of soil, and smaller, then their own two planets. "Send citizens soon to near planets."

The next week Thinker walked into Than'Al's chamber as puffed up as always, "I learned more! The down will be good!" And walked out, leaving Than'Al confused, really profoundly confused, especially since he had not given Thinker a new assignment yet...

Seeing Thinker later that week, Than'Al told him to focus on getting better sensors for the ships. They can't be taken off guard like they were by the Watcher's last report.

Thinker also had been looking again at the stars, and had seen several rocks in the sky nearby. He thought then that they could be used to increase their socioeconomic capabilities, and increase their overall thinking abilities, of course.

So, after bringing this idea to Than'Al, a new ship was created that could construct mining bases on the celestial rocks.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

It wouldn't be prudent to just go and start mining the rocks immediately, there were other things that needed to be done first, namely finishing the construction of the think buildings on Urlg.

Also, Thinker had more pressing matters to attend to, thinking about how to increase sensor range was important.

Several weeks later, actually a month, Thinker had a great moment where he just knew, just knew how to increase sensors.

Than'Al decided to reach out toward the neighbors of Celest and told Thinker to learn to get to know them better. So Thinker began to think about Diplomatic Relations.

Just a few weeks later, not even a month, and Thinker came back with a way to talk better. And he taught Than'Al and the rest of the ministers how to be "diplomatic" in the way they speak. Or at least more so.

"We should barter with the Drengin, it might make them nicer to us later" Thinker said to Than'Al after teacihng him about diplomacy.

"We should do that, diplomacy is important for our future I think."

"We should make Watcher better too" Thinker said, and it was done. Watcher was upgraded from the See'er class to the See'er II, which has slightly higher sensor range.

The next week, all construction on Urlg was completed and Than'Al ordered the immediate production of two Colonizer class ships. The first of which is scheduled to leave orbit in 9 weeks.

Three weeks later Thinker discovered how to package stuff and ship it through the Celest.

In this one, thankfully the Yor are not here...the miniaturization bonus they get usually is what makes my games very very long. I don't want this one to be too long, especially since I am working in deficit of about 100 Big Croz per turn. I think I have about 20 turns before I have to start selling techs, so I had best get on good terms w/ the other races, at least for a little bit
Reply #18 Top
HAHAHA! LOL! that is funny, this is great stuff. not much millita though, the drengin will take advantage of that.
I am gonna try to get some more planets, get them all set on research labs, and then gonna go after the Drengin. Though the Kroza are uber militant as well, so might have to take them out first... I am not playing a hard difficulty really, so they prolly wont be too hard to take care of...

Once I get the military techs going, yer gonna see some fun fights. Sadly Fraps puts a white layer on top of the video that I play of battles, so unless I do some heavy editing I wont be able to make video of my battles.

I didn't have time last night to make the next section, I will do it tonight and post it maybe tomorrow morning.

Not yet are we going to see the beginning of a Torgalian Trade Federation. But instead we are going to see the Torgal become even better at their diplomacy by thinking about governments other then monarchy. Thinker reported to Than'Al that he should know how to make a governent work within the month.

This is the state of the galaxy as of the first day of the ninth month.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

In only six more weeks Urlg will produce another Colonizer class ship. And will send it to one of the two uninhabited planets that are known of.

But for now we wait...

The same week that Thinker discovered the secrets to interstellar government beyond monarchy, the Watcher made another report.

"Watcher, Base, report. New planet near blue star; one of three. Others are poison."

Thinker replied to him swiftly, "go on to the next system that you can find. Quickly now...end transmission."

Than'Al asked Thinker about how things were going in on the two worlds. "All is well, they are happy."

"Could they be more happy?" Than'Al asked.

"Of course..."

"Make them more happy then Thinker, I know you can."

And that was that, Thinker went off to think of how to make the people happier.

Two weeks later, the Colonizer was created and sent off to the planet that Watcher just discovered.

"Colonizer 1 to base. It will take 14 weeks to reach destination. End tranmission."

Nine weeks later, they are scheduled to have another Colonizer ship ready for launch.

To help speed the ships along on their journeys, Thinker decided to mull over the idea of a faster engine.

That very week, the Torgal met the Torren. They seem to be a beligerent race, much like the Kroza and the Drengin.

We met with them, they don't really seem all that bad. They even agreed to give us some of their hive-mind in exchange for some of ours. As well as bartering away some of our engine technology for their secret of Xeno Medicine.

"Contact the Drengin officials, we need to sell some technology to them if they will pay well for it." Than'Al told Thinker. "Do the same with the Krozan officials. We need all of the money that we can get from them right now."

The Drengin had even less money then the Torgal. So we just traded some sensor technology for an agreement that they would give some of their research power to us.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

The Torgal did the same with the Kroza. And returned with the same result.
Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Thinker was unable to create a faster engine, but was quickly able to create a more efficient engine. Not detered by the lack of newness to the engine, he pressed onward trying to figure out how to get more power from an engine.

Only a few weeks before the end of the first year of expansion, the Torgalian economy began deficit spending, in large amounts.

The next week, another Colonizer ship was created. It was ordered to colonize the habitable planet nearest the Drengin planet.

"Colonizer 2 to base. It will take 16 weeks to reach desination. End transmission."

Thinker created the Impulse Drive, but did not manage to increase the speed of the archaic engines that their Colonizer ships possess.

Thinker was concerned about how they could increase the hive-mind's capabilities, and thought about how better computers would be able to help them with this.

A few weeks later Thinker made better computers possible. And decided that they should build a capital building to celebrate this achievment.

Now he turned his sights onto trade. With a heavy deficit in their economy, they needed to begin trade negotiations with other civilizations.

Thinker also thought that when they begin to trade, they should do so as much as possible. He tried next to figure out how to increase the number of routes they could have.

"Watcher, Base, report. Another Drengin planet. Other planets in system are wells or desert. End transmission."

"Base, Watcher, continue. Go to next system. End transmission."

Fueled by the desire to search more of the sector more quickly, Than'Al authorized the building of a second See'er II class vessal. It will be done by the end of the week.

The ship was sent out and called the Watchful. Its heading is toward where the Drengin flagship appeared. It is estimated that it will take only six weeks for it to arrive there.

At the end of that time, the planet Urlg will have commissioned its first trade vessal, and will have a destination picked out for it then. Than'Al wished to increase diplomatic relations with the Drengin, and so desired to send the trade vessal to the Drengin homeworld.

The Drengin homeworld was found, and not a moment too soon as the Trader class ship has just been finished.

It was sent to the Drengin homeworld without a moments hesitation.

A second Trader class vessal will be completed soon, and it will be sent to the Krozan homeworld. It has already been decided that the trade routes will alternate in destination with each successive ship. Between the Kroza and the Drengin capitals.

On the first week of August, in the second year of expansion. A report sang across the subspace transistors. The Drengin and Torren are at war!

Than'Al was concerned about this, very very very concerned. If the Drengin and Torren could be at war, they could just as easily declare war on the Torgal. This would not do at all. He ordered Thinker to learn how to make weapons.

Thinker decided it would not do to actually put forth this effort, and so contacted the Krozan. The only other civilization not at war. For some reason, the Krozan accepted the secrets of how to trade for their secrets of Celestial warfare, militarization, and the creation of weapons.

Analyzing data gathered from the Watchful and Watcher See'er II class ships, Thinker learned that the Drengin have both Laser weapons as well as guided weapons, what are called missiles. The Krozan only have Laser weapons.

Contacting the Torren, Thinker obtained all the unknown technologies that they possessed for the modest price of all of their Trading technologies.

Contacting the Drengin, Thinker saw that they actually were prepared for war. They had advanced Missile technologies. Not wanting to give them the secrets of trade, Thinker left and returned to Urlg content that he was able to learn something about the Drengin.

Not wanting to immediately learn how to attack, Than'Al elected to go along a more defensive path. The Drengin are more prepared for war, and they have missile technology, and so that is the type of attack that they should learn to defend against.

At the end of the week, Thinker returned to Than'Al with basic knowledge of missile defenses. Than'Al told Thinker to keep learning better ways to defend them against this imminent threat.

Several weeks later, Thinker learned how to put modules onto ships to make them better defended against missiles, and claimed to be close to learning how to decrease the size of these modules.

A few weeks later, on Urlg, a building of diplomats was created. And they made our Torgalian diplomacy even more effective in the Celest.

Time went by, and Thinker progressed in his knowledge of missile weapons, and finally a very small defensive module was created that could be applied to a ship with the basic particle laser weapon. The resulting craft was the Defendant craft, which will likely be sold off to the Torren to lengthen their conflict, weakening both overall.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Sadly, the Torren do not yet have any extra money to spare.

"Thinker, start learning some basic weaponry. It won't do us any good to die before we take one of theirs with us. Start learning about those small fast-moving pellet things." Than'Al told him.
