Torgalian Domination -- Defeated!

Torgalian Domination -- Defeated!

Light from Darkness

*
I am going to have my Torgal be a researching race, so that I can try out the strategy put forth by another on this forum *

"WE MUST RISE!" The Torgalian Commandant cried out. "We look up and see darkness where there should be light. We look down and see darkness where there should be light. We look inside our own heads and see darkness. For us to rise we must bring light to the above, the below, and the inside. We will make buildings and study in them! Go, do my bidding! GO!"

The commandant sank into his seat an hour later and listened to his advisors. He then dismissed them all but one that he called Thinker, a smart one to say the least.

"What we to do if this fails Thinker? Where we go if you fail? You die, we live, but how long so?"

Thinker paused for a moment, thinking about just what Than'Al was saying. "We no fail commandant. We live, go up, down, inside, give light to all."

Than'Al seemed content with this and dismissed him as well. Their home planet Urlg had never really done anything before. Thinker was a sly one though and had convinced Than'Al that research was the way to salvation, to light. So, going without hesitation, Than'Al had ordered all production on their only planet to focus entirely on research.

They quickly learned several things, almost simultaneously.

They learned about the concept of engineering, and from that. several years later, the secrets of the Hyperdrive and were beginning to think about other types of propulsion.

Concurrently with this research, they figured that it was impossible that the Torgal are the only ones in the universe, and created a means of univeral communication, a translator.

After the discovery of the universal translator, all research ceased to bear fruit.

It is now the beginning of the year, and Thinker comes in with his report to Than'Al.

"All well commandant!" He says this with a great smile on his face. "We learn soon, I know; and we learn fast if you approve..." He says this last word while holding out a constuction proposal.

"Now we make Think building. We buy one Think building and learn making faster. Cost 342 Big Croz. Location is enhancing to thinking."

"Do approve Commandant?" Thinker asks timidly.

"Yesh, approve." Than'Al says slowly, unsure of what road they are now traveling upon, but also trusting that Thinker is right about this.

Several days pass and the workers of Urlg produce a Think building that can be used at the start of the next week.

In the process, Thinker and his team were hard at work, learning more and more.

At the beginning of the next week Thinker burst into Than'Al's chambers exclaiming "We learn! We think! We do! Big Think building learned, can build if approve?"

"No Thinker, we see Think buildings now, see them work, then build big Think building if work." Than'Al didn't want to disappoint Thinker, but needed to know if this was going to work before subjecting his people to any more of Thinker's ideas.

"Okay, we learn up next!" Thinker then runs off to get working on his new idea. The stars are his conquest, he looks through his lenses at them trying to map them.

Several weeks pass before Than'Al sees Thinker again.

Thinker bursts again into Than'Al's chambers. This time with a scroll, a rather large scroll. On it is a map of all of the local stars. Also on the map are the various planets of the systems.

It showed that there was another planet in the Urlg celestial system that could hold life.

"What this? Send us there!" Than'Al was impressed by Thinker on this one, and decided to go with him in his recommendation to continue on this route of thinking, making their next objective increased sensor range.

Than'Al also wanted the Torgal to explore this new planet, and ordered his engineers to create a ship to transport them there.

His engineers promptly returned a message saying that they were given this same order, just in case, by Thinker about a year before.

Not thinking at the time that it is odd for Thinker to be so....forward, by overstepping his researching boundaries, Than'Al commanded that ship to be fully stocked with citizens and sent to this new planet.

Yes, war thing! i love it. the battles are heating up, it wont be long now before the drengin get a choke hold on the torgolians.

Wait a sec! The Drengin will NOT "get a choke hold" on my Torgalians...they will be the ones being choked!

I just got the newest beta for DA, so I should be seeing better framerates overall. No problemmos though, I only have problems w/ framerates when I am close to the ships

I haven't been playing any more of my Torgalian campaign for fear that I would forget to write stuff down, so I will be getting on that shortly. Hopefully I will progress far enough that I can just wantonly start a war against the Drengin, though they are currently at war w/ the Torren. I may just end up giving them some of my weak ships, like the Defendant to take a burden off of me, and so that I do not have to worry about losing my trading opportunities with the Drengin and definitely not the Kroza, whom I am quite fond of....their money at least. This is going to be fun, my ECM techs are much better then anything that the Drengin can dare hit me with...currently.

Since I am going to be going the route of Mass-Drivers it seems, this should be pretty fun . The Torgal are a technological race. It wont take long before I can completely overwhelm them all!!!

Now I am off to work on the AAR,

Since I am going to be going the route of Mass-Drivers it seems

keep in mind you have fit more beam weapons on a ship than any other type of weapon, mass driver is the least effective of all weapons but is cheap. missiles cost the most, take up the most space but are the most powerful. i hope this will help you in your military conquest.

It wont take long before I can completely overwhelm them all!!!

Careful, dont be so eager to rush into war with an enemy. your torglians are researchers, the drengin are blood thirsty warriors. if you go to war with them you will have no war bonus' were as the Drengin have Hit Points bonus (form the war party) and weapons bonus (ablitys settings). but if you go too war you will have something the Drengin dont have, an ally. stronger than tec, weapons or friken huge Armadas an ally can save your ass in the myst of crisis. the Archin (even with all their military power) had an ally when verseing the PeaceMakers and Dark Elements Factions, the Nedian! never go to war without an ally.

We have now, recently, created the Technological Capital. This is a good thing as it consolidates all research and does it all faster, twice as fast to be exact. Now, immediately after researching bigger and better Think buildings. With the current state of the economy, however, research is being started and stopped every time that our debt increases past half a trillion Big Croz. This occurs every other week, and effectively reduces our research by half. So we are back to where we were before the deficits began...

On the third week of the second month of the third year of expansion, we launched our first military vessel, and promptly gave it to the Torren for their own uses...for some reason they didn't want to buy it or trade for it...

Approximately four weeks later we learned how to make bigger and better Think buildings. Now, with the lack of normally suitable planets to inhabit, and the un-normal number of non-normally suitable planets about, several of them being poisonous or what other beings call "radioactive," Thinker was told to learn how to begin colonization to those "radioactive" planets.

"We will know how to begin to determine what planets we can send citizens to in about two months." Thinker said this with much conviction, as he sorta-kinda already had started this several weeks before between orders from Than'Al and only needed a small breakthrough to fully understand it.

"Watcher, Base, Report. Drengin High Fighter spotted going away from Torgal space. Looks to have Missile weapons but little defense. Sending specifications...end transmission."

So this is what the Drengin are going to be using. Perhaps we should send the Torren a few more Defendant class ships to help them guard against them...

"Watcher, Base, Report. Torren vessal, looks to be one of ours, the Defendant class. Looks to be chasing the Drengin High fighter into Krozan-Torren space. End transmission."

A week went by in silence, everyone wondering if the Drengin High Fighter and the Defendant would battle. It happened.

"Watcher, Base, Report. Drengin High Fighter and the Defendant vessal had conflict. The battle was short. Drengin High Fighter was destroyed. Defendant took little damage. End transmission."

The Defendant class is a battle proven vessal. Than'Al wondered just how long the Drengin would allow the superiority of the Defendant to remain...

More time went by...and then the Torren tried to extort currency from us. Currency we didn't even have. We of course rejected this, we didn't have it, and we could produce better ships then they could...

We turned around and made the following counter-offer.

"We will give you the secrets of Soil Enhancement in exchange for ALL of your weapon technology as well as 267 Big Croz." They accepted...

Thinker had a "eureka" moment about halfway through the sixth month of the third year of expansion. He had his breakthrough, and then reached a big problem. There were many types of worlds that they could try to send their citizens to. "Radioactive" world, and those that were of very high density, and thus had High Graviton Emissions. There are more of the later, but Than'Al wanted them to clonize those "radioactive" worlds near the other outlier colonies. Thinker thought silently for a short while and decided it was in his best interests to do as Than'Al asked...

Than'Al ordered the creation of a fleet of Defendants be created and offered to the Torren. They already have a singular Defendant, so four more would make a nice, round number of ships for them.

"Barter II to Homeworld, I see something interesting. I am sending you the information now, the Krozan look to be mobilizing..."

"...There are two of those in a pack. It is the only one I see right now, but I don't think it will be the last...Ending transmission."

So the Kroza have High Fighters too. And they are butting them into fleets and having them wander around together. Maybe the Torren convinced them to go to war to help them out against the Drengin?

"Hollows to Homeworld. Sensors have picked up a Krozan tradeship coming to us. Sending information now..."

"...ending transmission."

The week after sighting the Freighter, Thinker learned how to set up basic colonies on the radioactive worlds. Than'Al heard this and ordered the production of three Colonizer class ships immediately after the four Defendants are created.

Thinker thought he could make even better colonies on the radioactive worlds, and stayed on that task.

"Barter to Homeworld. I am seeing the Drengin High Fighters getting together into fleets now. Just letting you know. Ending transmission."

It seems like the Torren are going to be in need of the Defendants as soon as possible. The creation of the four ships will be done soon, already two of them are complete...

The Celestial engineers of Urlg reported to Than'Al that the last of the ordered fleet of Defendants would be finished in about three weeks. Then they would start on the three Colonizer ships.

At the beginning of the first week on the next to last month of the third year of expansion, we heard rumors that the Krozan are being extorted by the Drengin to keep the peace.

At the beginning of the last month of the year, we gave the Torren the four Defendant vessals for free. We will see how they fare together in battle soon.

At the first of the second month of the new year (now the fourth year of expansion) we sent out our first of three new Colonizer class ships, this one heading to the planet near Market Town.

The next week we heard that the Drengin and the Torren had signed a peace treaty. Probably this was sent by the Drengin seeing our Defendant ships in the hands of the Torren.

While speaking to the Torren about their treaty with the Drengin, we made a seemingly offensive gesture (to them) and accidentaly declared war on them.

"We are not prepared for war!" Than'Al shouted at Thinker. "MAKE US PREPARED!"

"But Than'Al, we do not know how to defend against our own ships! All of our weapons and armour are geared towards missiles and pellets. Give me a few weeks more to work on this, they do not know how to invade us yet."

Incidentally, at the same time as we declared war on the Torren, we had also convinced them to declare war on the Drengin. So they will be fighting on two fronts, we may just have a chance!

"Watcher.....ase...port. Under....tack....Def...ant...." That was all the Watcher was able to say before it was destroyed coldly by our own ship, the Defendant.

"The second Colonizer is away, we must switch our production from Colonization to Militarization." Thinker said this with obvious distain.

Than'Al thought about it. "No, shut down Celestial production on Urlg...we cannot afford to build them right now. Not yet...we need better weapons."

Thinker returned the next week with news that he could learn about how to defend against their own ships now. He started to learn about shields, and was determined to get a working ship out into the Celest as soon as possible.

SPIES! Enemies of the Torgalian empire have placed spies on several of our planets. Only four spies, but they are on our most advanced pieces of equipment, and are preventing them from working effectively...

We have increased spending to kill these spies, and should have them off of our worlds soon.

On the first of the seventh month, the Drengin declared war on us... This is truly a sad day...

"Instead of those pellet things, make lasers Thinker. We know that they are effective against the Drengin via the Defendant class ship, but we must move quickly..." Than'Al told him this hurridly, very concerend about being in a three-way war with the Drengin and the Torren.

"Defendant Alpha 1 to Base. Moving toward Drengin world near our other planets. Facing high opposition. What are my orders?"

"Base to Defendant Alpha 1. Hold position outside of New Urlg. Refitting to newer model will proceed shortly. After refitting proceed to target."

A few weeks after Defendant Alpha 1 was refitted, the Kroza experienced a great internal conflict, as a civilization. It seems as though they have a new religion.

"Defendant Alpha 1 to Base. Starbase detected, looks to have weapons. What are my orders?"

"Base to Defendant Alpha 1. You will not win if you conflict. Go around and attack the planet. Good luck. End transmission."
................
"Defendant Alpha 1 to Base. Attacking strong singular opposition. Drengin Defender class ship with high Missile weaponry. Fireing now...."

"What is your status?" the Base fleet commander, Rosharn, asked. "Are you damaged?"

"No damage, on collision course, evading..."

"Defendant Alpha 1! Respond! What is going on!?"
~~A few minutes later~~
"I have been hit, light damage, but the Drengin is destroyed. It is over... what are my orders Commander?"

"Return home for repair. Ending transmission."

Rosharn reported to Thinker the results of the battle, who then reported to Than'Al. The Defendant M2 is a successful ship...

"Barter II to homeworld. I see two Drengin transports. I hope that they aren't coming home with me. Ending transmission."

Defendant Alpha 1 returned home to Urlg and found two other ships that looked just like it waiting. The pilot asked Rosharn what was going on and why only two other Defendant M2 ships were there.

"You have been chosen as the leader of this squadron. Because of your battle experience, you know how the Drengin think when in battle. And you have proven yourself worthy of leadership. Now get back into your ship and lead those other two in an assualt on the Drengin homeworld. Destroy all of their ships and then return home."

"Yes'sir!" And he returned to his ship, entered it, and flew off with the other two at his sides.

And so the Alpha Squadron was formed. With three Defendant M2 class ships. Six lasers and superior missile defenses.

"Defendant Alpha 1 to Base. Sensors show a large number of fleets with pellet weaponry near the Drengin homeworld. What should we do?"

"Base to Alpha Squadron..." Rosharn said, "...continue your mission, if they give chase....run back to the homeworld. We will prepare a defense against them...ending transmission."

"Defendant Alpha 1 to Base. Alpha Squadron engaging Drengin fleet near Drengin homeworld."

"Base to Defendant Alpha 1. Conflict understood. Report damage afterward."

...

"Defendant Alpha 1 to Base. We were successful. Defendant Alpha 3 took the brunt of their attacks and was nearly destroyed. The mass of fleets is coming toward us...returning to base at full speed. End transmission."

Alpha Squadron landed safely on Urlg. Instead of seeing defenses against the pellet weapons, they saw that even more Defendant M2 ships were being made. They were also told that a new weapon type was just discovered by Thinker. Instead of just having a small laser to fire, they could shoot balls of plasma at their enemies that would stick to the ships and burn through them, causing even more damage. They were happy about this and wanted to refit their ships with this new weapon immediately, it was scheduled.

They were refitted and all ship production was changed to the new Defendant M3 ship, which is cheaper then the M2 model.

Just after completing their refits, a Drengin troop transport was spotted near New Urlg. The new Defendant M3 ship was sent to New Urlg for defensive purposes before even being named, and the Alpha Squadron was sent to deal with the transport.

"Defendant Alpha 1 to Base. Conflict with Drengin transport beginning. Will report after. End transmission."

The Alpha Squadron was successful in their attack on the Drengin tranport. And the newest Defendant M3 ship was renamed the Defendant Beta 1 ship. It was then sent to the same position as the Defendant Alpha 1's first mission.

Hmmm, Torgolians are stronger than we thought, the defendant series seems a very effective weapon against Drengin ships. Maybe beneth the research face beats a battle hungry worrier. well be keeping a close eye on the torgolians from now on to ensure the nothing happens to our new... friends.

we might just use a few Torgolian ideas to destroy the Drengin scum once and for all. as a fair trade we'll tell you this, The A.I.A have informed us that Drengin prefer to us a tactic called swarm. they will mass a good sized force then attack, your only attacking the frigs of their empire, if you find their military starbase you'll find their fleets, you find that starbase you stop the 'Swarm'. more info will come when we have learnt more. also be carful, drengin have a habit of creating a 'false starbase' which has little defence and little or no fleets defending it. their slippery buggers.

Oh, though I do not have any picatures for this installment...things are getting bad. Stupid "Super Dominator" super ability that the Drengin have in DA is making me mad. They had a huge fleet of fleets of those, but yay for me, took care of them pretty good

Okay, here is the next installment....I am up to Point Defenses and Plasma III so I shouldn't have tooooo much trouble dealing with them. But the Drengin have Harpoons, which is a +3 to missile attack, while Plasma is only a +2. This is a long game on purpose, it just wouldn't be very fun if it wasn't

"Defendant Beta 1 to Base. Mission successful. Returning home for repairs. End transmission."

Defendant Beta 1 returned home to find two other Defendant M3 class ships other then Alpha Squadron. Defendant Beta 1 was given his own squadron to control. The Beta Squadron. Later that week both the Alpha and Beta squadrons were ordered to go toward the Drengin homeworld in search of the fleet of fleets, so that they meet their destruction quickly.

"Base to Watchful. Go toward the Drengin homeworld and look for the fleet of fleets. End transmission."

"Beta squadron to Base. Drengin transport going toward you. Attempting to conflict. Will report soon. End transmission."

"Beta squadron to Base. Drengin transport destroyed. It was armed, lightly, but armed. End transmission."

"Watchful to Base. Fleet of fleets discovered orbiting Drengin homeworld. Relaying coordinates to Alpha and Beta squadrons. Ending transmission."

"Alpha and Beta Squadrons. This is Base. Hold position and prepare for refit to Defendant M4 class."

Only a week from the completed refitting of Alpha and Beta squadrons, the Watchful was forced to abandon its position due to increased military activity of the Drengin. It began its return back to Torgalian space while the fleet of fleets advanced on Alpha squadron. Beta squadron was several parsecs away from being useful in the conflict, and to make things even worse another Drengin armed transport is currently advancing on the Torgal homeworld of Urlg.

The next week, the transport passed by Alpha Squadron, now a fleet of Defendant M4 ships. Alpha Squadron maneuvered in front of the transport and then attacked it.

"Alpha Squadron to Base. This is Defendant Alpha 1. Drengin transport destroyed, Defendant Alpha 3 was damaged in the process. Only slightly. Intercepting Beta Squadron and then will proceed to the fleet of fleets. End transmission."

"Beta Squadron to Base. We are intercepting a pair of Drengin ships that parted from the fleet of fleets. Will report afterward."

~~A few minutes pass~~

"Alpha Squadron to Base. Also conflicting with Drengin ships. These from the main fleet of fleets. "

....~~Several hours pass~~

"Beta Squadron to Base. Drengin ships are destroyed. We suffered light casualties, only on the Defendant Beta 3. No ship losses to be reported. Ending transmission."

Immediately after Beta Squadron reported their victory, Alpha Squadron also reported of their victory. "Alpha Squadron to Base. Victory is ours. Light casualties on Defendant Alpha 3. Nothing major. Still a lot of conflicts to go through. We all here hope for survival. Ending transmission."

In a suprise invasion, the Drengin caught the people of Market World off-guard. They were slaughtered mercilessly, with only half of the Drengin insurgents being killed in the shortlived conflict.

"Make ships! Now!" Than'Al ordered Rosharn hastily. "We need to protect our planets!"

Rosharn hastily went off and started production on multiple Defendant M4 ships.

"Alpha Squadron to Base. Beginning conflict with Drengin. They are the same vessels that we last fought. Minor casualties are expected, but no losses. Ending transmission."

"Beta Squadron to Base. Attacking Drengin vessels with minor casualties expected. End transmission."

Both the Alpha and Beta Squadrons survived their encounters with minor casualties in both skirmishes. They did not have nearly enough time to retreat to the home system or protect the outlying planets near the Drengin scum. They stayed in place and dealt with the local Drengin forces.

"Beta Squadron to Base. Attacking Drengin fleet with the same small ships. We again do not expect heavy casualties or ship losses. To be sure, we are not allowing Defendant Beta 3 to participate in this battle; we will collect him afterward. Ending transmission."

And they did, with very minor damage being recieved by Defendant Beta 2.

"Alpha Squadron to Beta Squadron. Pull back and allow us to attack the larger fleet of Drengin, you go and attack the minor planet nearby. We are not as heavily damaged as you and should be able to escape this next skirmish without losses."

"Beta Squadron to Alpha Squadron. Understood, pulling back now. Ending transmission."

Thinker reported to Than'Al, "we have lost New Market."

"We need to protect our planets! Get Rosharn working on those Defendant M4 ships!"

"Beta Squadron to Base. Drengin colony ship sighted. Attacking."

They were easily successful as the colony ship wasn't armed or armored. The Alpha Squadron attacked the large fleet soon after.

"Alpha Squadron to Base. Conflicting now."

This following is a transcript of happenings in the battle:

Defendant Alpha 1: So who are we going to take out first? Defendant Alpha 3, I think that it is your turn to choose.

Defendant Alpha 3: I think that we should take out that High Fighter first. What do you think Defendant Alpha 2?

Defendant Alpha 2: That's a good idea...let's go with it...since you chose, we will let you shoot first.

DA 3: Let's go! :: fires on the Drengin High Fighter ::

DA 2: MY TURN! :: Fires on it also :: dangit! I dont thing I hit it.

DA 1: Okay, this is how it's done. :: fires :: HIT! Huzzah! Oh no! They are fireing on us!!!

DA 3: I'm being hit! Not good! Not good! Only the little ones hit me though, that High Fighter missed! WHOO! Okay, I'm firing again...:: fires :: Big hit on that High Fighter! Finish it off Defendant Alpha 2!

DA 2: No problemmo, gotcha covered. :: fires :: Big hit there too! :: watches as the Drengin High Fighter blows up :: YAY!

DA 1: Okay, we still have a while to go. Firing on one of those smaller ships... :: fires on one of the Super Dominator Corvettes ::

The small ships turned all of their attention on the damaged Defendant Alpha 3, destroying it.

DA 3: What is going on!? Why are they just going after me!!? :: blows up in an awesome looking explosion....then static::

DA 1: We must kill them all now for what they just did!

DA 2: Yeah! :: Fires...with a vengence ::

DA 1: WooHoo!!! :: Fires ::

~~ This continues for a while and eventually both Super Dominator Corvettes fall to the combined might of the Alpha Squadron~~

"Alpha Squadron to Base...~sniffle~ This is Defendant Alpha 1. We won the battle. We lost Defendant Alpha 3 during the fight. Continuing assault on the Drengin homeworld. Ending transmission."

Than'Al recieved good news the next week. The citizens of Market Town had successfully defended themselves against a Billion Drengin invaders. A majority of the citizens were killed in the great battle, but they did not lose the planet. We have been victorious!

"Beta Squadron attacking Drengin planet near Drengin homeworld. Defendant Beta 3 is badly injured! Ending transmission and returning home!"

"Alpha Squadron to Base. Attacking Drengin homeworld. New opposition. Very high Missile attack. End transmission."

The Defendant Alpha 2 was badly injured in the battle, and Defendant Alpha 1 decided that it would be best for them to return home.

In a later battle, the Defendant Beta 3 was destroyed, bringing the total casualties of war up to 10. Two sihps, each with a crew of five.

Beta Squadron continued to attack the Drengin homeworld defenses while Alpha Squadron retreated to Urlg for repairs. More and more Defendant M4 class ships were created to help defend our remaining planets while the Drengin prepared their invasions. Soon the plasma cannons will be able to be smaller then ever before, and will be able to have more on a ship at once...

At almost the end of the year, only a week left, the Beta Squadron became no more. Defendant Beta 2 was destroyed and left Defendant Beta 1 alone. It took care of the remaining Colony ship on the Drengin homeworld and then started back to the homeworld...

We have beaten back the invaders once more! The Drengin tried to break through and take over Hollows but we beat them back, only barely, and survived! And just before another Drengin troop transport landed on the plains of Hollows, the Defendant M4 class ship named the Defendant Gamma 2 began its orbit and protected the citizens against the invasion. It seems that the Drengin are much easier to attack in the Celest then on the Downs.

The only remaining member of the Beta Squadron, Defendant Beta 1, began its orbit around Urlg and repaired itself. A few weeks later it was given the orders to join with Alpha Squadron and use its experience to continue the destruction of the Drengin. As the most experienced ship in the fleet, it was to take the lead in the new Alpha Squadron. Defendant Beta 1 was not to change its name, as it had been lucky so far with that name.

Drengin fleets scattered around Torgal space are just waiting to be killed by the Alpha Squadron. But instead of going out and killing, they were ordered to wait until they learned how to move troops through space like they could with their citizens.

An ill-fated Drengin colony ship flew near Urlg and Alpha Squadron flew into action, swiftly dispatching their target with genuine malice.

Now that there is a Defendant M4 class ship defending each of our four planets, the Alpha Squadron was sent out to collect the debts of Drengin lives for killing so many Torgalian citizens. And all military production was ceased on Urlg, to give Alpha Squadron some time to expend some pent up energy.

Thinker walked casually into Than'Al's chamber and announced that they could now send military troops through the Celest like they did with their citizens. He then went off to figure out how to make their defenses stronger against the missiles. Loss of life is always a bad thing, maybe he could help prevent Torgalian loss of life.

"Defendant Delta 1 to Base. Engaging Drengin Escort. End transmission."

Several moments later...

"Defendant Delta 1 to Base. I am successful but heavily damaged. Returning hom for repairs. End transmission."

Several weeks later Alpha Squadron reported something terrible. "Alpha Squadron to Base. Just sighted a three ship fleet of Drengin High Fighters with much better weapons than what we have currently. What are our orders?"

Rosharn thought for a short time. Alpha Squadron is our best and most experienced fleet of ships. We cannot allow them to die without causing even more pain to the Drengin. "Base to Alpha Squadron. Get out of there. I repeat, get out of there now."

And Alpha Squadron fell back. They were given word from the Watchful that a defensive ship was in orbit around the Lentz V Drengin planet, and so they went the shortest route to it in a quest to destroy it. In a freak accident during the battle, the Defendant Alpha 2 was destroyed. Five of our most experienced men were killed in an accident...what a shame.

Just a week after, a new defense type was created that doubled the effectiveness of the armour that is being used. And completely skipping the useless and immediately obselete Defendant M5, the Defendant M6 was created.

Just giving you an update and clarification on some things.

We are probably not actually winning the war, just taking out the small and weak Drengin fleets. They also have a fleet of High Fighters with 7 missile attack, (this is the point of my getting the Point Defenses) and rarely they have some ships with missile defenses. They also have several planets producing High Fighters with 9 Missile attack, so I am not sure how well I can survive. I need to retake those 2 planets that they so willingly stole from me, and then go into annihilation mode on those Drengin. Or at the least show them my space superiority so that they leave me the heck alone!

But, I am in the process of making some invasion ships which you will get to see compilations of soon. Soon being a relative term relating to the next time that I post. I get off late at work tonight, and have to open up tomorrow, so I am probably NOT going to be able to update this until Monday or Tuesday (both off days for me).

I think that with my first few invasion ships I am going to retake planets, and then later I am going to take out their home system. I had actually forgotten that I was also at war with the Torren, who have a lot of planets that can be taken. But they seem to just be building up, since they are actually pretty far from my space I have't seen them. But also there is a strong Drengin planet between us that can probably push out overly strong ships to take care of the Torren Defendant M1-esque ships. They look like they pretty much copied the Torgal in the weapons and defenses they chose. I hope that I either get Medium Hulls or get better Logistics soon.

The "killer fleet" that the Drengin now have is 21 Missile attack / 0 defenses w/ 3 small hulled High Fighters. My best fleet, Alpha Squadron, with its recent loss, only has 8 Beam Attack/ 4 Missile Defense. I think that I just went into huge debt to make all of my Defendant M4 ships into Defendant M6 ships, so their Missile Defense is going to double.

Not sure why but the Drengin haven't even bothered to send their "killer fleet" to my planets to remove its defenses. Maybe I should make a few more ships and take my 3 Defendant Gamma ships and form Gamma Squadron, and send them on a kamikaze mission to weaken the Drengin "killer fleet."

But that would also be against the Torgalian moral codes, I think. We hate losing our own in battle. It would be horrible if we lost Defendant Beta 1 or Defendant Alpha 1. Both of these have HUGE amounts of experience and are almost up to 20 HP each. So now they are almost weakly armed medium ships. This is a very good thing as each of those ships, though being overall weaker then the Killer Fleet, can take a lot of punishment from it before dying. Still, I don't want to see my best two ships and their pilots and crew die.

I hope that we can win this war, would be horrible to see the Torgal die randomly in some fight in the Celest. My new invasion ships carry two billion military units each, and can transfer populations. I will probably transfer the maximum amount of population available to each of my market worlds so that I can increase my economy to a somewhat reasonable area before plunging back into the horrible realm of debt. I just need to end these wars I have. Even the Kroza are starting to be wary of me, and I have all of my trade (a good chunk of my economy currently) going to them. So things are not looking good. Once I take care of the Drengin I am going to need to research Beam defenses instead of Missile defenses. The Drengin are almost everyone's opponent, so I wont have to worry about the other civilizations making anything other then Missile defenses. If the off-type defense bug is still around then I wont have any problem taking them out.

Danielost, those news reports are very entertaining That is almost where my citizens are I think. They are soooo unhappy with me from debt and the tax rate that I wouldn't be surprised if they are living in caves by now. And they can't afford space heaters, so they aren't getting them... >:]

Hope yawl enjoy this little bit of information that I have given to ya...

Ending transmission.

As I feared, I have failed in my mission to destroy the Drengin scum. I was able, afterall, to continue the AAR today, you see my shift was cut down to 1 hour.

This is the chapter of the Torgalian Defeat, not Domination.
****************************************************************

Just about half way through the ninth month of the newest year, all of the Defendant M4 ships were refitted to M6 class ships and the Kroza declared war on the Torren. Looks like they are the low ones on the pole now.

At the beginning of the next month the first Invader class ship was created.

Than'Al ordered Rosharn to make three more Invader class ships, two for each of the two planets the Drengin took for us. He then ordered that an escort of one Defendant M6 class ship be sent with them.

With the continued approach of the large Drengin High Fighter fleet, Than'Al ordered the Defendant Delta 1 stationed at Urlg and the Defendant Gamma 3 stationed at New Urlg to form into the Delta-Gamma Squadron and conflict with it. With this opponent, they needed to test their abilities in battle. They now all had better ships, so maybe they had a chance.

The next week they found out if they would survive...

"Delta-Gamma Squadron to Base. Confronting Drengin fleet. Ending transmission."

Rosharn did not hear again from Delta-Gamma Squadron. It seems as though they failed their mission. It was a sad day...

Rosharn then ordered, much to his dismay, the incomplete Alpha Squadron to do battle with the Drengin fleet as well. They could not allow the Drengin near any of the Torgalian worlds again.

"Alpha Squadron to Base. Confronting Drengin fleet. It looks smaller then last time we saw it, and one of the ships is damaged as well. Ending transmission."

Several hours past and Rosharn was beginning to fear the worst. Had Alpha Squadron met the same fate as Delta-Gamma Squadron?

"Alpha Squadron to Base. Victory is ours. Returning home for repairs. End transmission."

Rosharn was overjoyed at this. They had survived again!

To make sure that both Urlg and New Urlg were defended Defendant Alpha 1 went to Urlg and Defendant Beta 1 went to New Urlg.

Immediately after the beginning of the new year, the first of the two invasion fleets was created. The two Invader class ships and the single Defendant M6 class ship were sent through the Celest to the planet of New Market. The new Defendant M6 ship was given the name Defendant Gamma 4, to replace the late Defendant Gamma 3.

Another Drengin fleet is approaching Urlg currently. Soon it will be too close to turn back without being overrun by one of our fleets. If it does get any closer we must send Alpha Squadron after it. They are the only ones experienced enough to be able to survive without casualties...

The next week the Drengin fleet got too close, and Alpha Squadron was sent after them. "Alpha Squadron to Base. Conflicting with Drengin fleet. Will report soon. End transmission."

Hours later a horrifying report came across the subspace transistors. "Defendant Beta 1 to Base. Drengin fleet destroyed. Defendant Alpha 1 destroyed. None survived. Returning home for repairs."

A new Defendant M6 ship was created and its first mission was to destroy the Drengin constructor passing by Urlg. It was then sent to New Urlg for defensive duties.

The invasions on Market Town failed. Four Billion of our military citizens died there, saddening...It was decided that before we go through that again we must become better at warfare in general. We must learn how to train better soldiers.

Three Defendant M6 ships orbit Urlg other then Defendant Beta 1. These three were ordered into a squadron. This squadron was called Gamma Squadron and was sent to Lentz V, to take care of the defenders there.

On the first day of the sixth month the Kroza declare war on us. This nullifies all of the trade between us, and will likely result in a lot of pain between our civilizations...

"Gamma Squadron to Base. Will be conflicting with Drengin fleet near New Urlg. Will report after conflict. End Transmission."

"Gamma Squadron to Base. Drengin fleet destroyed. Defendant Gamma 4 was destroyed as well. Continuing on original mission. End transmission."

"Defendant Beta 1 to Base. Conflicting with Drengin High Fighter escorting transport. End transmission."

A few minutes later...

"Defendant Beta 1 to Base. Conflict resolved. Returning home for repairs."

"Delta Squadron to Base. Conflicting with superior Drengin fleet. End transmission."

"Gamma Squadron to Base. Conflicting with superior Drengin fleeet. Ending transmission."

"Delta Squadron to Base. Conflict victorious. One ship lost. Defendants Echo 2 and 3 survived."

"Gamma Squadron to Base. Conflict resolved. Drengin fleet destroyed. Heavy damage to Defendant Gamma 2. It is breaking off to defend Hollows. End transmission."

"Delta Squadron to Base. In a sneak attack by the Drengin, we have been destroyed! Only I, Defendant Ico 1 remains. Returning to Urlg for Defensive orbiting. End transmission."

So Delta Squadron too is gone? This is horrible, only Gamma Squadron remains...and of the original squadrons only Defendant Beta 1 is alive. This is becoming a very sad day for the Torgal, with so many of their military men dying at the hands of the Drengin.

On the first day of the tenth month of the year, the Torren were assimilated entirely by the Drengin. I fear that we will be under the same fate ourselves pretty soon.

With the immediate fate of destruction relevant to them, Rosharn and Thinker developed a last ditch ship to help win against the Drengin and Krozan scum!

Time passes

On the 22 of the First month of the new day, the Defendant Beta 1 was destroyed.

Than'Al concluded that the fight was lost, and that they should just take as many citizens as possible and abandon this system. We cannot win this fight, our economy cannot win this fight either. We are doomed.

Than'Al then has built an Invader class ship to allow us to escape the planet with 2 Billion of our citizens, but none of our technologies or abilities. We left our home planet, and our home system of Urlg and ventured out to a new life...hopefully one that will allow us to live semi-peacefully for many years to come.

Thinker delayed the launching of the ship, declared the New Hope and nearly doomed the two billion lucky to be removed from the planet so that he could grab the designs for the Defendant series and other ships that Rosharn and Thinker created.

This is the state of the sector as it stands at the end...

WE HAVE BEEN DEFEATED!

You escaped to fight another day, Like the Archins did... Drengin will find you and you had better be ready. Archins see Drengins as flys, Archins see Archins as the swat.

there are so many thing i could point out there but the main point would have been, YOU LET THEM USE THE 'SWARM' TACTIC! i mentioned this in my last post Archin agencies dont just do this for fun ya know, you put our good advice to shame.

Well one this for sure if you do another game with the torgolians please use Archin information to survive, if you want i can send the file for 'Archin Ethics'. it will help torgolians understand alien minds coz Drengin dont feel 'fear'. (dont know were they got that from... finding a Fearful Drengin is about as likely as finding an Archin who like Drengin)

I lost entirely because I didn't focus on my research it makes me sad. I didn't even get to get Research Centers, the best I had was Xeno Labs....

And, No...I did not LET them use the Swarm tactic. I didn't even know that they were going to do that until after it started, and then i didn't have a chance. They got rid of Defendant Beta 1 and then everything went downhill from there...losing that ship...ZOMG freaking strong! It had like 23 HP!! IT WAS A SMALL HULL! Default HP = 8. Freaking strong, as said.

My next game will get me through the research buildings and speed techs, then will focus on defenses as well as balanced offenses. Need to NOT give the other people my ships, such wonderful Defendants did I have I am happy for it.

If I can I will play more of a defensive and diplomatic role in the sector, and not play on a freaking tiny map (see final sector picture for confirmation)...will prolly use a Medium which is an 8x8 sector grid...that will allow my Torgal to get a very good hold on the area.

Well, I shallest be off to start my next game, wont really start until I can come up w/ a backstory as to how they actually escaped annihilation...

i told you that they get a HP bonus

Fine i wont use your ship designs.

Yeah... more stories.

i give minors my tiny ships and i keep the small ships

i normally keep them both. A good mix of the two is always best. tiny hulls often fire rounds faster.

???

Each ship fires its weapons exactly once per combat round. Hullsize has nothing to do with it?

Okay, starting my next game soon, gonna be going up against the same three civs Kroza, Torren, and the ebil Drengin empire.

But yeah, a Small or Medium game will make this more drawn out I think, and will allow me to up the strength of my empire!

Oh, btw...Than'Al says Hi and they are doing well, and that they will be landing on their new world soon.

If you want to use my Defendant design you would have to get DA! GET DA!!?

Talk to yawl latah, work in progress is now in progress!

Oh, btw...Than'Al says Hi and they are doing well, and that they will be landing on their new world soon.

Tell him Losthero said hi. the archins are doing very well, they own 7 planets now and have new weapons to fight the Dread Lords. Drengin arn't a problem at the moment. i'm adding a bit onto my story tonight.

If you want to use my Defendant design you would have to get DA! GET DA!!?

I wont coppy it exactly, i'll use the same features exept i'll call it The Drengin Lord.

No difference.

The only difference between galciv 1.0 (hopelessly outdated btw) and the newst 1.6 betas is that damage rolls are per weapon and not per ship. The basic mechanic remains the same. Each ship attacks once per round, per weapon (1.6) or per weapon type (earlier versions). In fact, with the new system (as far as I understand it), large ships may appear to fire more often per round, if they have weapons left over after destroying their initial target.

You might want to search the forum a bit for how exactly the combat system works, how ships choose their targets and how defense is applied.

my fighters often fire more rounds than my other ships. i had a fighter fire 2 mass driver shots, in 2 seconds, at another enemy fighter and destroy it before it could get a chance to fire.

never mind, it doent's matter coz were not playing eachothers games. lets avoid any an plesent arrguements

Seconds != Rounds

But at least try and get the 1.5 update for Dread Lords. 1.0 is simply so old that you can't really apply any of the strategies you will find being discussed.
