Ship designs from around the world!

Last year, we had a thread in which people showed off some of the great ship designs they created with Galactic Civilizations II.

With the expansion pack adding so many new components and so much free form support, we'd love to see the cool things players create.

The cool thing in the expansion pack is now you can save your creations as templates and then assign the computer players to make use of those ships in various roles. Combined with the capability of creating your own custom opponents, now you can create your own sci-fi universe within GalCiv without modding.

Hey, dumb question, but do I need to change anything to get Kryo's mod to work with DA? I'm not seeing the hulls or asteroids available.

you have to turn the mod on in the options area

there is an area that says something to the effect of use mods and kyro mod should be on of those on the list when you hit the change button

and it will not work on meta verse

Interesting thing I noticed about Kryo's Mod--when I loaded DA, the Kryo's Mod that worked with DL was seemingly compatible with DA--until I noticed that the blank hulls were of different hit points. A huge hull for DA has different (more) hit points than does a huge blank hull for DL with Kryo's (old) mod. The new huge hull also costs more. This made for an interesting, and perhaps not bad situation--I now have more choices of hull size and cost. If I made a huge blank hull with Kryo's mod (designed for DL) it might be 80 hit points of size, and comensurately less cost than the huge for DA, which could have 135 hit points but greater cost and time to build. I guess you can say I now can differentiate between battle cruiser, battle ship, dreadnought, monitor, etc.

Did any of you experience this?

no, because i downloaded Kryo's updated mod for DA. the reason this happens is because hitpoints were adjusted in DA. you may want to download the new version.

A few more ships for you guys. I still can't seem to build an asymetrical ship but these I think worked out well.

My latest battleship:

This one is basicly my heavy raider with a bit of Battlestar flavor:

My latest fighter. I think it kinda looks like a moth but I haven't come up with a good name for it because of that.

Another one, kinda going with the Gundam/Armored Core theme, the Artemis Tank:

Two Arm Cannons, each mounted with 2 Black Hole Genorators
Two Back mounted missile launches
Four Tread mounted engines, One back mounted

Hurrah!

anyone fancy knocking up some 40k ships?
Has anyone managed to make a good recreation of a Puddle Jumper (from Stargate SG1 & Stargate Atlantis)? I've tried hundreds of different ways, but meh.

Also, Maddybadger, if you check out Battlefleet Gothic you'll find what WH40K ships look like. From there, its just finding out how to replicate them.

EDIT: I managed to make a "kinda WH40K" Imperium battlecruiser. I messed up the back end of it though. Are you interested in seeing it?

how about the moth

I was going for more of a cool factor but I did like "The Tick" cartoon.

what about "Fire Dancer"? it'd factor in the dispose-ability of fighters vz. the moth's deadly attraction to flame.

I love it. Thanks dystopic!

kvd, I would like to see it. I looked at what the web had on them but the ships looked sorta like gothic cathedrals complete with flying butresses and everything. Very cool looking but I would think hard to attempt to duplicate in the ship builder. But like I said I want to see it.

you're totally welcome. picking a name for my ships is usually the hardest part.

I have settled on Fire Moth. Mainly because I wasn't man enough to christen any of my fighers with a moniker that included dancer. "Not that there is anything wrong with that." I liked your analogy with the flame and moths. Thanks again for the help.

Hmm... I've decided to not post it. It doesn't do justice to either the Space Marine's Battle Barges or the Imperium Capital Ships.

cop out

you should post it as a wip

then other folk may be able to build on your basic desgin and produce some truly amzing ships. people could offer insights into what components to improve with?

the whole point of the ship builder is to drive player innovation!

I know Kenweb inspired a lot of my ships, his BSG mod was stonking and doubled the size of the GC2 tech tree the man's a nutter and probably never sleeps.

I agree with maddy. I was shamed back in the day by croc411, kenwebb, and progoth (as well as others). I learned alot from them and they compelled me to try and do better. I think I learn something new almost everytime I look at someone elses ships on here. I love trying to figure out how they did something or even stumbling across a cool new way to do something in the ship editor. Another thing I find amazing is looking at the old stuff from the beginning of last years ship thread and wondering about how they were inspired and whether or not they realized that they were trendsetters/inspiration for other's designs. So keep on plugging away at it kvd, you'll get to where you like your own stuff. At least I did. Just my 2 cents rubbing together making noise.

Well, I totally screwed up the back end. I wasn't sure how to get that total "cathedral" look (seen on Imperium ships). In the end I just created a custom back for it. And while the ship looks amazing, in my opinion, it definitely isn't an Imperium (or even Space Marine) ship.

But, meh, I'll post it. And hell, I'll post it with a few other designs of mine.
