Imperium Galactica II: Alliances better "re-playability" than GCII

I played IG II many years ago and it was fantastic!

Recently I was introduced to GCII and Dark Avatar (beta). Both were great games too. However, after playing for a few times with different challenge setting, I got bored. Took me just one month (playing about 2 hrs each day) to get completely bored with it.

Perhaps it's just me. I found that the game is pretty much focus on strategy in general and not much in the tactical actions that can be manipulate by the player. The space and ground battles are "static".

In these areas, I urge Stardock look at Imperium Galactica II space and ground battles. In fact, they should also look at how IG II did their "planet colonization" (i.e. placing of planet buildings/resources).

GC II is already there with its strategy/AI of the game, ship building and 3D space map. If it includes IG II space and ground battles, it will be the perfect game for me.

I prefer more re-playability of varies part of the game than just statistical monitoring of outcome most of the time in the game. Do you agree?

Space battles in IGII are fun, but pointless, since no tactics are involved. Ground battles are slightly better, but still there isn't much skill involved. They are fun though.

What I would most like to see from IGII into GCII is the way the campaign is handled. You get all your missions on a randomly generated map. It wasn't perfect (kill the wrong race too early and you can't finish the campaign!) but it was better than the GCII version.

Personally, I love Pax Imperia's space battles Proper fleet mixes or your doomed. GCII, you just mass ships which have defense stats matching the target's weapon stats and weapon stats which are of the weakest ship defense the target uses. Boring =0

That's right! Pax Imperia's space battle is so much better tactically. You need to get the right mix and then control the ships movement to win the battle. Indeed of being the leader of your race, you get to be the Admiral of the fleet.

Similarly in the ground battle, you get to be the General in executing the attack/defense of the battle/city.

These just give the game so much more fun than just boringly clicking the TURN button.

IG2 was one of my favorite games back in 2000. When I seen GC2 it reminded me a lot of that game. One of the reasons I bought it. I still miss playing IG2.

It would be nice to see some of the stuff that IG2 had in GC2. In IG2 you can control ground forces during a battle. You can control your ships as a group or all together in a ship battle. You can decide which ship to attack first. Planet view was 3-dimentional. I think IG2 was ahead of its time in graphics and UI but the AI was not that good at lest not the level of GC2 is.

Looking back at IG2 it is easy to see were the bulk of the budget went into graphics were GC2 was the AI and some graphics.

I love both games and play GC2 a lot and you guys at StarDoc are great. Maybe in GC3 some of these things can be added.

IG2 was a great game. I still pop it in on occasion and give it a spin. I think it might have been a little overly ambitious though, due to trying to include all that was in it. It created a ; pretty good at a lot of things, but great in fewer things game. I think GC2 is more focused in it's direction and therefore shines brighter in it's inception of that focal point.

I've played Rome: Total War, and I'm still sick of all of those tactical battles. I quite happy that GalCiv 2 doesn't have all those tactical battles. Its a game that provides me with some fun while allowing me to recover. Plus, its nice to have a game where you don't have to worry about tactical battles, and only worry about the strategic parts of the game.

Yes, a lot of one thing is no good (obviously). I feel that CG2 concentrated too much on high level strategic part of the game and Total War too much on tactical battles (may take hours to finish a battle).

IG2 is well balanced on both areas and catered for both type of players.

Personally, I perferred a well balanced game like IG2. CG2 is indeed a great game having the right amount of strategic focus and AI. It can do better if it provides the IG2 tactical battles and 3D planet view.

Hopefully, I can see them in CG3 if there is one.
