help with playing Drengin and genral strategies

hello all i need some help with playing drengin and strategies.

1.My first problem is what do i build on the planets? some people say build a bit of everything and other say build on what resourses the planet has, if it has 300% research tile build mostly research is this the right thing to do?

2.If you play the Drengin Empire whats the best strategi to play, allways war with someone, full on research, trade with everyone?. and which starbase to build up first influence, eco or militery.

3.this is just a problem i have with the game. when a friend ask for help in a war i usualy give them 1-2 ships but they never move them? they just stay outside my planet.

1. Depends on a lot of different things. Size of galaxy, whether or not you specialize planets, what goals you're trying to accomplish at the time. I frequently go back and rebuild planets at various points in the game based on my needs.

But for the general case, yes I use bonuses as I find them. If a planet has a 300% research tile, then I'll put a research building on it but otherwise I don't feel obligated to use the planet only for research.

2. I don't really play race specific strategies. I played the Drengin pretty much the same as I played the Torian. The key thing in race selection are the race's "inherent" abilities. I use reset to clear the default abilities leaving only the inherent (free) abilities and use the 10 points to select the abilities that I want. Race really is almost immaterial.

I use a *lot* of economic starbases to give my planets production and research bonuses. Influence and Military starbases are a waste of time in my opinion, though there are people that swear by them.

3. Unless you give them some *really* good ships that’s usually what they do. It’s pretty annoying. Instead of ships I'll give them money or if I really want to help them out I’ll declare war on their enemy. If I truly want to get rid of some old ships I'll fly them into their territory before I gift them.

I'm one of those players who do swear by influence starbases.

Back to the Drengin subject. Aside from starting techs, and inherent abilities, each race can be played much like any other race, even the custom races. What really makes the difference is how you set up the race you're playing as, and how you play. Setting up your race comes in two major parts: abilities, and alignment. Starting techs is a minor third; they are nice to have, but you can research them later.

Abilities play a significant role in how you are able to play, mainly by making certain stratigies easier, and/or more effective. I suggest that you pick a theme and select abilities that support that theme. I recommend that you start with a simple economic theme (economics, morale, and population growth). It isn't fancy, but it will help to provide you with the money you need to play the game, and learn to play it well. I could go on, but abilities could easily get their own post, or even stratagy guide.

Alignment however, affects how you do some things. I know that evil races can wave the fee to install starbase modules, neutrals get their neutral learning centers, and good gets impresive defensive techs. I recommend that you ignore alignments for the first game or so. They're useful, but not required to play the game. When you do decide to select an alignment, be certain to read each one so you know what you are getting yourself into.

Good gamming!

1. i build what the bonus tiles are for (exp 100 bonus for research then i will build research.

2. i try not to trade tech.

3. i will never give them any of my ships. because they never use them anyway.

4. i try to take the weakest race nearby. i will build military bases around my planets first. and i will try to build influence bases around the planets i am trying to take in the first wave or i will put them far as they can go around other races. dont forget to build up before you attack you don't want to run out of ships and transport in the middle of your attack. for planets i try to put all on if i can
mainly researh and factories and farm land.

i hope it goes well for you. but you have to find the style that is right for you

what fuels cheif said stock markets try to get money from other alien races. if you have a big military they might pay. it work sometimes for me. or if you are just playing for the fun of it and not playing for score use cheat if you are hearting badly for money there is nothing wrong with it just think of it a one time loan.
