Help Loading New .logonxp

Hi I just downloaded the program I have skinned my desktop and bootscreen the way i like and i just wanted to change my logon screen.

After i downloaded a new skin from wincustomize.com i tried to load it in LS.

Unfortunately when i load it there are no errors but it does not show up in the list. It does however show up right above the list where it says "Current:". The name of my new skin is there but it is not in the actual list and there is no way to apply it.

Any help would be great thanks!

Hmm, can you show a screenshot?

(print-screen key, paste in paint, save as jpg, toss onto www.photobucket.com )

How did you try to load it? did you doubleclick the .logonxp file? Or was it a zip that you unzipped and put the folder in the Logon Studio folder?
If you unzipped it, make sure the folder that you put in the LS folder only has bmps and the uifile and theme.ini inside. Sometimes there will be another logon folder inside the folder you put in the LS folder and it will show in the LS window but not apply. You need to take it out of the first folder and put it into the LS folder.
Sounds confusing, hope that makes sense.

Sometimes there will be another logon folder inside the folder

I downloaded a couple before that had more than one inside - different resolutions

I was loading a Vista2008 logon screen that I got off of WinCustomize.com.....it's in the correct format and everything.

thanks for the replies!

P.S. I've also tried a bunch of .logonxp files from wincustomize so it's not just this particular one... they all do the same thing -- show up in the "Current:" like that screenshot.

Have you tried to apply/use any of the three skins that come with LS, if so did they work. If they did not work are you running Windows XP.
Yes the three welcome skins work flawlessly and yes I am using Windows XP. I just can't get any new ones on there

I just tried the Vista2008 logon using Firefox to dl and it downloaded and installed automatically and works fine.

My last resort would be to rename the Vista2008.logonxp file to Vista2008.zip, unzip it, and put the Vista2008 folder in the C:/Program Files/Wincustomize/Logon Studio folder, and then if it doesn't show up in the list with the other logon, go out with some friends or something. Hey, It's Friday Night, you shouldn't be messing on the computer anyway, you should be out having fun.

If boss's suggestions do not work, I would think maybe a corrupt install.
Use ODNT Zapper to completely remove LS and then reinstall it.

Cool. For some reason the normal way to load them doesn't always work. Not a clue why, but the last way usually does it. It's kind of a pain, but glad it worked for you.

Boss or Cavan or Bichur, if you're still around....

I'm now having the same problem. I have downloaded and used many logons for a year now (Boss may remember our discussion, on another thread, of "pirating" his My_very_own_logon" from a couple weeks ago - it is currently in use with no problems). When I got any zip in the past, I would unzip in the "temp" folder it was downloaded to, take the folder and drop it into Logonstudio in program files. Just tried that with some PNG icons for Objectdock, downloaded no problem (I had wondered if it was a Firefox problem, or a different place they were being downloaded to).

Today I have tried 5 times to download 3 different Boss logons, using both Firefox and IE, from Wincustomize and Deviantart, and also logged in/not logged into Wincustomize. I get the same result as described above. The download window shows the file "done", Logonstudio opens up showing the new file listed as "current" above the active logon list, but there is no way to open it up/put it to use. Only one of the 5 d/l's even sent a file/icon to "desktop" (where it shows a description as mentioned earlier - "logonstudio document"), and when I double-click it, it only opens logonstudio as just described, and shows the new file only as "current". The other 4 times I can't even find a file/folder to try to open by double-clicking. I have a screenshot available, but it looks pretty much the same as the one from reply#4, but can include it if necessary).

Any thoughts?? Sorry to be a little "wordy", but wanted to describe as much detail as possible. Thanks for any help.

What's your default zip manager?
Using Firefox browser, Extraction wizard (default in XP?) to open zips - the same stuff I've used all along for logons, icons, walls, docks etc.

But, with these downloads/logons I'm not even getting to a point where I can even try to un-zip anything.

got a link to one not working?

When you download them, I'm assuming, at least in FF, that you are having LS open it.

If that is the case, try saving the file to disk and then either doubleclicking if it's a .logonxp file or unzipping and putting the folder in the LS folder.

It sounds like something may be messed up in the file associations or the download manager. It's Flashgot in Firefox, you might try updating it.

I have FF and IE set to download files to a "Downloads" folder that I have on my desktop, so that the files don't get buried in the Documents and Settings/Local/Temp files folder. That way everything I download goes in one folder that I can get to on my desk, I can install the program or do whatever with what I've downloaded and then delete what's not needed.

I'm not really sure exactly what's going on with your system...but try saving them first where you can find them and then install them.

The logons I've tried to download?

In the last couple hours:

and also, from devianart:

Dynamo (one of the Deviantart ones) was the only one that even put the "logonstudio document" on the desktop.

Just tried them all...no problems. hmmm

Boss,

When using FF the download window opens, shows progress of the d/l, then shows done. I click on "open" and it goes straight to the LS window, as described before. There is no choice during this to "open" or "save" (as it does in IE, which when I tried that, just had the same result). The default d/l place is desktop (I have never changed that). Also, earlier in this mess I downloaded a dock icon using this procedure with no problem! Sends the zip to a temp folder, unzip, move the new icon or folder, easy! I've always just moved the item/folder for any icon/logon/etc. from the "temp" right away, to where I want it in program files. So, I tend to think FF is OK??

With all the other logons, in the "Logonstudio" in programs, they are each in a folder, open that and I see the bitmaps (how I use MY_Very...). With this now all I get is the "logonstudio document" which doesn't open.

Not sure what you mean by "assuming, at least in FF, that you are having LS open it". Once I click open in download mgr. LS opens by itself, with the new file listed as current, but not in the main list.

Have I addressed all you mentioned? Thanks!

If you haven't tried already, uninstall and reinstall Logon Studio. It's been known to do weird things like this before.

Other than that, I'm out of ideas.

Here (hopefully) is a screenshot, if it helps.

The download mgr. shown does not show "Dynamo" (I had cleared it already), which is the one file to make it to the desktop.

"/>

I'll try the re-install. Is LS supposed to open by itself, but show the new logon already in the active list straight from the download mgr.? If not that then I think the breakdown must be in the d/l mgr.? (which you did mention)
