Any chance I can use my usb controller with the game, for the space battles at least?

I suppose you mean a joystick or a gamepad.

There are basically two modes of battle: One is to use the automatic battle options offered by the game. In other words the game takes the lead and you don't have any control except choosing the target (and a controller is "useless"). When you tap your keyboard the game calculates the "end of turn" and the battle pauses.

The other option is turnbased and I would say that there are no better controllers for that than mouse and keyboard.

I've been playing it for about a month now, and I'm firmly convinced this is a GREAT game! Certainly the best turn-based role-playing game I've found in a long time (and that includes NWN, although each has its strong spots). It's just very enjoyable.

My understanding from browsing various forums (mostly www.spacerangers2.com) is that the developer, Elemental Games in Russia, went belly-up and filed for bankruptcy recently. I've also read that some of the most recent patch work is being done by volunteers and modders, overseen by a few of the former devs (they're overseeing but not doing it).

Sadly, it's all being done in Russian, by volunteers, so there's little chance of that being ported over to English. That said, I've read that the US version 1.3 has most of the fixes included through the Russian version of 1.6. Who knows the specific there, but it sounds plausible, given that the American version hit the markets a fairly long time after the European release.

I don't know who owns the code or the rights to the title, but this is the kind of game that I think Stardock could do an AWESOME job of expanding upon.

Things that have been left out from the latest Russian version include a number of text quests (some of the quests your Ranger had to complete in the Russian version were apparently bona fide IQ tests--score above a certain level in a certain time to complete the mission!) and some other very minor tweaks to ship systems.

Having played the game for a while, I can't tell anything that's broken (excepting some confusion around when I donate Dominator parts to the good guys' labs).

As far as I've understood the discussions in Elementalgames (english) forum the russian patches are mostly gameplay tweaks, making the game more difficult and added quests etc.

For example one thread described a tweak to the "bounty escaping to a planet and getting arrested" problem: you can bribe the government of the planet to let your target out of jail.

The only problems that I've had are connected to displaying the intro and other video clips, but even those are occasional (and you can get rid of them by disabling the intro).

This forum looks pretty quiet but Ill try anyway. I am a total noob to this game still early on and learning ,one thing has me stumped! Early on you get a training mission for ground combat with robots but I cant figure out how to get more of these ground misssions. can somebody help me out. thanks

Usually they'll come a bit later on. They'll happen on planets that have just been liberated from the dominators.

Unless of course you say "I don't want to do any missions of these kind" then they won't offer you those missions.

Yeah, what he said! It sometimes also works if you go to planets that have just been attacked by the Dominators, but it's more likely if they've just been liberated.

Hello,

I have a question about probes. How do I tell which orbit is high or low. There is usually 1 on the bottom that looks like a half circle and starts at the bottom moves up and then down. There is an oppocite half circle that starts on top. Then in the middle there are orbits that resemble a snake path.

It doesn't matter which orbit path you choose.

what i do to get those missions (note i am about ten years in and can kill lots of dominators by myself) is i will go to a captured system kill some dominators duck in and out of an uninhabited planet to let my droid heal me and soon rangers ship will start showing up, you get a ton of xp a medal and ask for a mission after it is liberated the will almost always give you a robot mission.

I'm a couple years into sr2 now and have about 70 dominator kills and liberated a few systems. I'm #1 in the ranking. I'm still listed as a rookie. How do you move up from there?

Go to a military base or ranger base and get your promotions I think.

Just wanted to mention that Space Rangers 2 is one of the best and most fun games I've played in a long time. Will there ever be a Space Rangers 3?
I would say the odds are pretty slim, as the developer's status is in doubt.

I'm not quite sure this was answered by Peace or not but...
Is there a patch available for the retail version 1.0 to 1.3? I'm still running 1.0 and all I can find is digital version of 1.3.

I'm not sure that they've put one out. You can try contacting the publisher's tech support to see:

Any chance Stardock will be getting the expansion to SR2? I really don't know much about it, so it might not be an expansion. But I have heard that something else is or soon will be available for the English version.
