Spore

Hi, well yes i'm new and was playing Galactic Civilizations 2 and realized "Hey, poeple you like this game will like Spore!*Invades Korx homeworld*" You see Spore is like this...

You start off as a microbe and as...actually I can't explain it....to complex, so I'll do the next best thing.

Videos

The first video gives an overall demo of the game, it aired back in GDC 2005. http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-262774490184348066&q=Will+Wright+and+Spore&hl=en

The Second one goes over the Space part and Creature Part of the game in more detail. It was back in E3 2006(May)http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=2452498698220338656&q=Spore+E3&hl=en

Trust me, watch them, and you'll like them.

I have heard quite a lot about this game and to say the least it looks like the future of a lot of gaming for it contains a lot of content yet is still small in size. Dont get me wrong its complexity is still quite large enough for endless hours of play.

yeah, definitely want this game bad.

My only concern is weather or not you can play this game without connecting to the internet. I'm a person who prefers to play offline, and would rather not have to connect to the internet to enjoy a game.

I'm fairly certain that it will be playable offline. From what they've said, the internet will be mostly for trading your creatures, buildings, etc with each other.

DivineWrath: Ricree is correct in that you can play without ever connecting to the Internet. Internet access will allow you to (automatically) download others' content and upload your own, but the game will come with all the content you need in the box; it also has methods of creating new creatures, I believe. The official site can be found here: www.spore.com.

Has anyone played it yet? Or is it just buzz we're reflecting? Just curious, nothing wrong with buzz, but I was hoping for substance.

You can find hands-on impressions at places like gamespot easily enough. Obviously the game isn't finished yet, so none of us have had a chance to play it!

It is supposed to be out by the end of this year, but game delays are common and it might not be out till May of next year, however many game sites have claimed that the date will most likely be around Febuary.

its a simulator. Single player online but you can download stuff from online and download other players in games things ie their creatures, building styles, planets, etc... got this game reserved and i can wait.

Well, the game isn't out yet, and no, even if you have no internet connection the game comes with thousands of premade charaters, planets,...well everything!

Actually and average solarsystem with all the planets, moons, comets asteroids, creatures plants, i mean everything in the solarsystme and on the planets will b about 10-20KB.

Oh my god....... OH MY GOD.... All hail Will Wright! That looks bloody BRILLIANT! I can't wait!

EA is distributing this? If this game is a dissapointment, you know where to point your fingers, I wouldn't rave about this game till it comes out.

I would. I've been going crazy for this game for the last 6 monthes or so since I found out about it and can hardly wait to start playing.

Seriously! Spore: Now with spyware that will record your online habits and make a species to deliver an advert for YOU!

I saw these videos back when they originally released and I've really been looking forward towards getting this game, but now with the crap going on with EA and BF 2142 and the spyware... Really doesn't make me want to support EA. If it releases clean (no spyware, starforce, or other major pains in the butt) I'll definitly be getting it.

:goes back to patiently awaiting the Dark Avatar beta:

EA is loading up spyware on your computer as a part of the license agreement is that what I am to conclude from the earlier post?

It has been a long time since i've seen a complete game come out from EA... Usually they send the second half as an expansion. I just wouldn't get too hyped up for this game until it is actually out.

when is it going to be released? December of this year?

IGN lists it as 2Q (April-June). Can't wait to see it myself.

Too much said...I can only hope my inflamed expectations about Spore don't drive me to submitting too early to Windows Vista.

p.s. I've long wished that Will Wright and Brad Wardell could have a software love child together, but EA, etc., do make such fantasies hard to sustain...

As cool as the concept of the game is, and as impressive as some of the technical functionality its boasting is....I dont understand the "cutesy cuddly cartoony" design of the creatures. I dont understand it in Gal Civ 2 either. I guess its some misplaced attempt to try and appeal to a broader audience (girls and small children?).

But I see this often in recent 4x games.( Spore, Civ 4, gal civ2...) I guess it might be effective for Spore, which will be a high profile mainstream game( as much so as a PC game can be now a days), but it seems more often like a refusal to embrace the core demographic. In Gal Civ 2's case I dont see small children or girls being interested in the game regardless of how you cutesey it up, and believe that the majority of loyal demographic would prefer a more gritty and serious depiction of game characters and elements.(you can still be lighthearted without looking like a Pixar character).

Anyways, just my 2 cents. I suppose they dont have to care what we'd prefer stuff to look like, because they know we'll buy it anyways( not having much choice for "quality" 4x sci-fi games, or strategy games where you can build your own lifeform), and they just do whatever they can to squeeze a few more sales beyond that out of a mainstream audience.

Ill probably be buying Spore, but Ill be really upset when my Klingon-esque warrior race that develops from a primordial razor-beast looks like a plush toy suitable for a 5 year old.

spore looks like a awesome game but for some reason when i play gal civ 2 it reminds me of it

Spore is like combining the sims2 with sim earth and RTS elements. The early stages are over in about 3-4 hours and the space aspect is the predominant feature. You need to be able to go online in order to fully populate your Galaxy with hundreds of thousand of worlds to find and visit, annihilate, or takeover. you can also play online and actually contact live users and their worlds when you visit them (at least this was the original plan but Will said they were still working out the details at the time).

The whole Ginormous living breathing galaxy thing with tens of thousands of worlds is absolutely mind blowing. I hope they can really pull it off.

I like the aspect modding it, well think of the infinitive possibilities to make new bodyparts, maybe human like parts and so on, maybe there's much more to mod =O)

This game will be a burner!
