X3 as a strategy game, a real total conversion

Hi everybody, The Rise of the Gerandor Republic Mod for GC2 Twilight of the Arnor is currently stopped for undefinate time, but not cancelled.

It is a Total conversion of the Game X3 Reunion, and is thought to let you play the X universe from another perspective, from a Leader of a race.

This Mod is what you really understand as a Total conversion, it completely replaces GalCiv 2 with X3, adding a lot of new features and story to the game.

After a long pause, we are very close to bring this mod out as a beta.

This will be a big Mod with lots of new ships, video material and the best, impressive Weapon effects you ever have seen in a Galciv2 Mod =o)

The whole X-Universe in GalCiv 2 !

Are those laser weapons firing or are those rail type guns? I like em no matter what.

that was all Lasers, I didn't put the railgun in yet.
In the video there was only PPC, you hear that from the sound and PPC look way other then railgun =)

Railgun comes next ;)

By the way, are your new effects already in TA?

I think I remember reading that Stardock was going to use your enhanced graphics.

yeah they have integrated some, maybe the other ones for next updates, maybe for 2.0 ;)

all beam weapons but the plasma, the nightmare torp , the antimatter torp, missiles and other new effects from me are integrated yet, the rest is still waiting ;)

Ahh Germany, I miss it. I lived in Bamburg for 2.5 years when my dad was in the Army there. Great country, great people and very, very, very great food! I miss real schnitzel and spezi so bad haha.

OOps my dad's is on the 15th ahah..the 20th belongs to my wife and to our 12th wedding annivsary this year!! My Grandma's is on the 2nd and I round it out by being on the 4th!! So when you celebrate your bday, I will be celebrating my wife's and our annivsary!! I knew there was something special about that day haha

very nice work of your team and great birthday present :-)
You seem to know a lot of the whole graphics stuff. I'm looking for a tutorial on how to create bumpmaps and lightmaps for GC2, do you know one? I'm used to find bumpmaps as extra files at the same place the texture is located (like in Oblivion) but where do I find them in GC2 TotA?
Sorry if this is maybe the wrong place to ask but you seemed to be one of the few persons who do such work.

[EDIT]Sorry, I made a mistake. Just found out that bumpmaps seem to work with extra files as I'm used to, just the most had simply none :-(

Hi FlyQ, thanks ;)

yeah the bumpmaps and lightmaps are extra files. I can simply tell you how to make them. For the bumpmap, download the nvidia normal map filter plugin for photoshop so you can make a normal (bump) map out of every texture. And for lightmaps, just make a transparent texture with some colored parts that shall not be affected by shadow. It's a simple layer over the mesh like you can see in the models folder of Twilight. The really nice thing is the normal map filter plugin. Google it ;)

I'm wondering if you asked Egosoft for permission to use these assets, cause so far it all seems very illegal to me ....

If I remember correctly, not sure if it was another thread, I remember them saying that they had direct permission from the maker of the X games to do this, which I believe is Egosoft, so there wouldnt be anything illegal. Also if you know the peps working it on it, like Stefan, you would know they wouldnt do anything like that. They are good peps working way hard to get out an awesome mod! But Im sure Stefan can give you more detailed answer than I can!
