Most Usable Visual Style Winners

We did better this time with the Visual Style judging, only one day late!  Below are the winners for Most Usable Visual Style.  The voting on these was just as close as the icon voting.  Judges provided by Neowin, BetaNews, DeviantArt, Microangelo and Lockergnome.  Congrats to our winners in the event.  RickyXu just snagged himself a nice $200 cash prize!

Again, China dominates the event taking both 1st and 2nd place!

Check back in Friday for Most Original Visual Style winners, when we give away the EVGA GeForce 7900GT!

Well!

As I said many time, any of the skins can easily be the winner. Many of the skins should have been up there as well. I'll repeat what I've said before, any three skins can be the top three without causing a war.

As I have always said there are no loser in this GUI Champs 2006

All works were done by the greatest and latest masters of skinning.
You all should be proud of your work 'cause skinning has never been any better.

Congratulation to all who took part in the Gui Champs 2006

Nice to see the "good sportsmanship" displayed by one and all.

Congrats to all!

...but I have to say that I don't agree with the judges. Oh, well...

Overall a lot of very good work is to be found in this years competition. Amazing work by most participants. But I have to agree with Yrgal and others. No offense to the top two, they are nice skins, but when reading the comments, I would not have expected them to make the final round. I only downloaded one of them. Originality must not be even a small factor in choosing this catagory...

i understand the judges were emphasizing the "usability" when voting, but like other repliers of this post, i dont agree with the result...i feel mike n dani r both ripped off, but at least they got something...

jj, IMHO, is ripped off unbelievably, how in this world could he win nothing with his amazing AzenisII? i believe many ppl feel the same way too

the result really generates controversy

Wow

I would have thought that for a skin to win a gold, it would have to at least have every element skinned.

Aluminium is a pleasant skin, but it's just ok. It looks like something from like 2-3 years ago.

no offense to the top 2 medalist, i m happy to see both the gold n silver medal were taken by chinese, becos i m chinese too....

but like RPGFX once commented, AzenisII is probably the greatest blind of all time, let alone this contest n it's commendably usable, it should win the gold medal...

Aluminium n Dreamyworld r very good skin, but they dint create "WOW" when they were released! on the other side, Acrylic, AzenisII n Ares both created "WOW"

Ok! This is the sad part of the Gui Champs 2006

I knew it would come to this point some how.

Though Azenis II appeared to be a black skin, it is indeed a very bright skin a doctor would describe to a whole family of all ages. It looks as if some people have been favored as well - The art of politic. Because They have a name or have an uncle, doesn't mean some great works must be sacrificed in their favor.

By the way, I'm not here to complain about top three or four.

I just say thanks for all the skins I get a chance to use.

I just want to remind everyone that "Usable" does not necessarily mean "WOW!"  We're looking more at is the skin easy to use as opposed to "is the skin fantastic looking, cool, and easy to use?"  The two sometimes go together, but not always.  Just because you like a skin, does not mean it's stellar in terms of actual usability.

Same goes for "Original"

I think a lot of people are confusing these separate categories with what they just think looks great.  Some of the most fabulous looking skins are not in the least bit usable or original.

I agree it's a great skin. But the most usable? I wouldn't agree with that.  My tastes differ with the judges as well but if I were one of the judges on this event, I wouldn't have picked AzenisII because of the title bar buttons being so close together which some people would have difficult using.

But I'd probably vote for it to be one of the best skins overall.

to elsius,
it's great to have u in this contest, ur presence as an audience brings so much fun to me!! all of ur comments r so humorous..

to zoomba,
i dont get confused with "usability", "originality" n "fabolous-looking", for example i believe Sirius is very faboloius looking n original, but it's lowly usable(no offense to Cerberu5)..

AzenisII, on the other side, is flawless, usability wise, IMHO!! it also created "WOW" in addition.......

anyway, i respect the decision by the judging community, the voting has been real difficult in this contest(for both the judge n public), n it will get even more difficult when the final 3 event blast off

Personally, with it being a WB5 contest, i would have liked to have seen the Top skins have ALL areas of the theme skinned. This to me should be manditory to even enter the contest, let alone win it.

Having said that, there are five judges and its their final word that counts and i respect that, Knowing that five judges votes tallied up on top of the user vote definately means thats these skins deserved to win according to category.

Congratulations to the medal winners and KEEP ON SKINNING!

to frogboy

it's all about preference!! i genuinely believe AzenisII is the most usable, i have been switching blinds since the contest started, but 1 or 2 days later, i would switch back to azenisII..btw, i dont see the bar button as a shortcoming...

anyway, controversy is forever part of every competition...

What a ironical competition is it-a passel of Chinese entries have get the medal.

I think Stardock Cop., should considering the hunting and nabbing of piracies and illegitimate entries. One of "Team" have been posting and sharing warez about stardock's products from the beginning on their forum. And they get the award??

Sadly,I was hoping maybe Stardock'employees would spot it at first, but it seems..........

Not to be snitching or something, just a fairness issue. So which team should examine?

Ans:http://www.guichamps.com/teams.asp?tid=10;http://www.themex.net

And k0be,

Stop touting AzenisII. Done is done.

Celine:

Accusing someone of piracy is pretty serious.  And unfortunately the themex.net forums are not in english so we're hard-pressed to spot the warez threads.

Unless you can point to specific proof that members of the ThemeX team have pirated or are helping pirate software (as opposed to other members on the forums that aren't competing), we can't do anything.

They hiding the "Windowblinds" thread for non-member and you have to get invitaion join there.

However, the "stardock" thread still open to guest.

[EDIT] Removed warez links from post.  I have them saved to my desktop so they don't need to be here anymore -- Zoomba

btw Zoomba, forgot to mention you linked to the 512mb overclocked card, not the 256 mb card shown on prize page, has it been upgraded?
