... must resist... using any... insulting names...

So I'll play nice-nice...

Maybe Gamespot editors can't understand anything you're saying? That happens when you chew on your tongue while talking.

You too huh? Welcome to the club! My "time out" was a couple of months ago for similar behavior and I believe it was for a weekend. CariElf let loose with her wrath upon my humbled soul and well, you know, after all the begging and pleading I had to do...  I love you CariElf!
But seriously Wheel, people like us have to learn to keep our cool when it comes to things in here... and I know what you mean about it being hard to hold the tongue

Improving this game is more important than punching n00bs.

I definitely stepped over the line with the last incident. Stardock gives a good amount of leeway with this forum. I just went too far.

I'm a bit more brutal when I leave the name-calling out of the posts... more evil than ever now.

Evil S. Did you get the v1.4 update? I thought I read somewhere that you got a usb memory stick. If not, I can send you a CD, just let me know.

There certainly are a lot of grammer/spelling police on this forum. I have never posted on any forum where the main participants were so picky about spelling, grammer and punctuation.

I love it

Got the memory just haven't downloaded yet. Was waiting to see what other people thought about the update before doing so. I don't recall what you had to say about it since it seems like you've been jumping all around in here the past couple of days so... what do you think? Is it worth it or should I just wait for the expansion pack and "do it all at once" so to speak?
By the way, Kryo's suggestion to get the flash memory (utterly brilliant yet so common sense-ish)probably would have halted about 96.9 percent of my ranting with regards to updates and the inherent issues that arise from them. Things like that humble me and show me that I don't know what I think I may at times. It was a simple fix for a simple problem that none of us, mainly me, ever thought of.
But to get back to your question/my reply, I value your opinion with this game and look forward to seeing what you think of the update since you have gotten your mitts around it.

Yeah, I count myself as one of the Grammar Nazi's... unfortunately in my post about Messy Marvin and NESTLE Quik, I was unable to edit in time, spelled it Nesle... that bothers me to no end!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm still trying to finish my first v1.31 game, I'll at least hold off on downloading v1.4 until then, you never know they might have to do a v1.41 (BTW I'm not wishing this on anyone).

Besides finishing your current game I don't think there's any benefit in waiting. You may as well begin to get adjusted to the changes as soon as you can. I certainly wouldn't start a new game on anything but the latest rev.

You're right, the simplest solutions are usually both brilliant and easily overlooked. However, I think it is a valid argument that folks without high bandwidth internet access still deserve some consideration. At least, as long as you don't get excessively carried away while making the argument.

Apparently this has turned into a grammar/spelling thread. My apologies to the OP who was only trying fix something that he saw as potentially misleading.

But I'll add my opinion about grammar and spelling anyway. I try to be reasonably careful with my own grammar and spelling because it does reflect on how people view you and your posts. But I try to avoid criticizing other people's grammar and spelling unless it's so bad that I truly can't understand what they're saying. Even then there's no real need to criticize, it's more a matter of seeking clarification.

There are a number of reason's you shouldn't criticize other peoples grammar and spelling. The first reason is that it’s at least as likely to be a typing error as a spelling error (grammar is a little more difficult to explain as a typing error). The second reason is that English is not necessarily everyone’s first language. If you don’t have native fluency in at least one language other than your own, you have no call to criticize someone’s usage of what may not be their native language. The third reason is that it makes you seem hypocritical to correct others when it’s virtually inevitable that you’ll make errors of your own.

Finally, even if your own grammar and spelling is beyond reproach, correcting the grammar and spelling of others makes you seem picayune and pedantic. If you’re in the habit of correcting other people’s grammar and spelling, you better know what picayune and pedantic mean. I’ve attached the following links for your edification.

Mumblefratz,

The OP goes beyond all of your guidelines and straight to Defcon 1.

Aw come on now Wheel, a typo and missing t shouldn't warrant a Defcon 1. I've read quite a few posts that honestly made my cranium split into four sections as a demonic little imp bashed a cello into my fleshy and soft brain, relentlessly, until blood poured from my ears and tear ducts! That would warrant a Defcon 1!

I didn't see it as all that drastic. He dropped the apostrophe from his contractions, he mistyped “that” as “taht”, dropped the “t” from “the”, and ran all his words together into a single sentence with no punctuation. It seemed to me that he was just in a hurry. Even so, I still understood what he said. He was only trying to point out something that could cause confusion. His intent was good, I’m willing to cut him a break on his diction. Isn’t there something in the game that’s more interesting to you to discuss than this?

Don't tell Wheelofire about text messaging. He would never be able to understand it much less read more than one message before he writes a dissertation on errors in that one message. On the other hand, if he has kids, hopefully they don't have his OCD about correctness and are txtmsg to their hearts content.

I personally would define OCD as "55 rounds of GC2."

Let me put it into perspective for you, Weyrleader:

Our mutual colleague, Mumblefratz, has logged three rounds and ranks 7 places higher than you.

Go tattoo an "L" into your forehead.

That's not nice Wheel. There are many criteria that are legitimately used to rank this game. I would say enjoying the game would have to be number one. If you don't enjoy it and continue to play it then that's OCD. I personally respect someone that is still playing the game after 55 submissions. Also the way the metaverse is weighted someone with 55 games gets less than 10% credit for every score. If you take a look at the Alternative Metaverse that Kryo set up you would see the Weyr outranks me, but that ranking doesn’t penalize you for submitting lots of games. In my mind it’s a superior method.

On the other hand Weyr's comment did get a bit personal. It's sometimes hard to differentiate between criticism of what someone says or does as opposed to criticizing the person themselves. The first is perfectly reasonable and acceptable the second is unnecessary and mean spirited.

Wheel, buddy, pal. Do stop being a jerk. Particularly to long-time respected members of the community.

No offense taken on my part. I once had a mentor tell me that after you reach the age of 50 you start to chill out and go with the flow. There are priorities that all must arrange in their life. I have mine and others have their own. Rarely will someone elses priority for how the world should opearate effect a change in my world. Thus, pertinant to the discussion in this thread, correctness of spelling as a priority in someone's worldview will not make me check my spelling more than I already do. Enjoy life. When you see an error, laugh and enjoy it, knowing that you would not make such a gross mistake in public.
