Preorder using paypal?

I want to preorder, but even though there's a paypal banner on the preorder page, it doesn't appear to be an option.

Could anyone from stardock give me some advice? TIA...

Paypal cannot be used directly for preorders (they don't support delayed transactions, as when you preorder you aren't charged until the game is released). If you have a TGN sub or want to get one though, you can use paypal for that then preorder DA with TGN tokens.

Thanks for the reply. I'll wait for the offical release then...it's not far away anyway. Thanks again.

Tokens?

I was meaning to ask at some point, but what are tokens. I assume they are for the stardock central program that you use update games. Also, how do you aquire tokens?

Tokens are worth about $10 dollars each but you can buy them for about $8 each. You exchange them for games and you don't get the tokens back. I think you also get a discount on anything bought for the next X years. It's basically a way to save money and guarantee that you'll spend that money on StarDock. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I'm thinking of buying 5 so I can preorder DA and get BS Hacker.

Basically you buy a TGN sub for $69.95 and get 10 tokens, and can later buy additional packs of 10 tokens for $65 after you first subscribe (We used to have a cheaper 5 token booster pack, but it's not listed on the site so I'm not sure if we dropped that or what).

You then spend your tokens to buy games on TGN; the value of a token ranges from $9 to $15 but for most games it's about $10 (just depends on how the game is priced and what the nearest amount of tokens is to that). Since you only pay $7 per token, you're basically getting a 30% discount right off.

Right now there are approximately 50 games available on TGN. Several are SD games, most are independently made games or third-party games that are no longer at retail (but still fun, yours for cheap and forever available from any computer via SDC). There are also a couple of miscellaneous programs available for tokens such as the Desktop Pet.

Thanks for the insight.

However, now I must ask, where do you buy tokens at? Also, how do you buy them?

Just go to the TGN site, click buy and follow through to the checkout.

What about pre-ordering Dark Avatar if you already have a TGN subscription and tokens to spend? SDC doesn't show Dark Avatar as an available item to spend tokens on and the TGN web site doesn't seem to have a way for me to authenticate to the site.

Puzzled.

Just to ask... the product is going to be a download only product, right? What point is there to pre-order it then? Not like they are going to run out of downloads

I do intend to get it, I'm just curious what benefit there is to preordering it...

Edit: Ah... nevermind, just noticed it's slightly cheaper

The price is slated to go up from $24.95 to ~$30 at release, so if you buy it in advance you save $5. The token price isn't likely to change though, so if you have tokens it doesn't really matter when you get it.

You should just need to go here and click the pre-order button under '3 tokens'. Your login should transfer from the forum straight to there with no need to log in separately, so as long as your forum account is the same one as you subscribed to TGN with it should work without a hitch.

Thanks a TON to Kryo for the info on how to preorder Dark Avatar using existing tokens/TGN subscriptions.
I kept checking Stardock Central waiting for DA to show up as a buyable product using my tokens and it never showed. Now its ordered and I don't have to worry about it anymore!

Thanks again!

Sorry guys, DA won't show up in Stardock Central until it's available for download in some form. SDC is first and foremost a download manager; the purchasing ability was added last year as part of our TotalGaming.net upgrade.

As Kyro said, TotalGaming currently has over 50 titles available for sale. The best part about it is that there's no DRM, you're buying them at a discount using tokens, and you own the games forever (you can re-download the latest version via SDC at any time). Quite a few are previous retail hits, like the Etherlords series, but there's also a number of excellent indie-games available that you'd probably never hear of otherwise (like DevastationZone Troopers).

The 5 token booster pack should be visible, but does seem to be absent. When T-Man gets back next week I'll ask him to look into it.
