Other than more GalCiv games, what kind of game would you like to see Stardock make next?

Stardock's Current Poll

So I thought I would make a post on the current poll to see what people really want from Stardock.

I picked Turn Based Fantasy Game. My reasoning behind this is that I think those types of games if worked out in the right fasion become somewhat of an addiction to play. I also like the idea behind Society yet there is not much content to go on yet so I didn't vote for it.

This is just my thoughts to the poll what does the community here think?

Here's my design idea:

Take Stardock AI, Mix Ogre Battle style movement and a Kohan style battle engine- and add MP, then you've got a winner.

The long half-promised MOM2.

How long can negotiations with Atari take?

I've never been a fan of fantasy; if I want Orks I'll play Warhammer40K. I prefer RTS type games, but I'd settle for a RPG as long as it's not MMO. Multiplayer is fine, but it _must_ have a signifigant single player mode as well - like Freelancer, but with a proper working economy.

I don't want another build up and then attack RTS game (repetative). That would get boring very fast. Something that could be fun would be GalCiv RPG. It would be a way to see the GalCiv storyline from a different perspective. An MMO might be okay, but I'm sick of server costs. I'm good with anything that has a fun story, open universe (linear games are annoying), and is original. GalCiv is original and it showed with the popularity.

Oh, and fantasy games are too common now. SciFi is a good genre to work in.

I voted for a RPG. I think Stardock could make a great RPG type game, I didnt vote for the others because Im not inererested in action or adventure games, well an RPG is an adventure, I will not pay monthy to play a game, and we already have GalCiv 2, why do we need another turn based game by the same company? Also RTSs get old too quick, unless it has the magic of Starcraft. I like Damon's suggestion of a GalCiv RPG.
Though I would be interested to see what origanial ideas Stardock could come up with for an RPG

I voted for a turn-based fantasy strategy game. I've played a couple that were decent (Disciples, AoW), but none that were truly what I was looking for. Given how well GC2 has turned out, I think Stardock would do very well if they gave us a fantasy strategy game.

Also, I echo El Conquest's opinion that Society looks and sounds good from what we've seen so far, but that I'm reserving further judgement until I see more.

I voted RTS, but only under the prayer that Stardock can work some real magic with it! I'm more than impressed with GalCiv2, and I think a fresh perspective on the RTS genre could help.

If they didn't do an RTS my second vote would be for a role-playing game. That's another thing that could do with a good kicking, and someone crazy enough to try something without the fear of various monolithic corporations breathing down their backs. In particular, perhaps an RPG taking place in the GalCiv universe... RPGs are not my forte, but I've never heard of any truly great sci-fi RPGs. Maybe I just don't know where to look.

I would like to see a Might and Magic RPG. While seen in the first perspective, you actually control a "party of people". Eight is usually more fun.

There are two really fun things about this type of game.

First is character creation and development. Choose from human, dwarf, gnome, half-orc, elf etc. Choose their role - thief, barbarian, knight, archer, sorcerer, cleric etc. Choose male or female. The enjoyable bit is when you DON'T see the characters so that you can imagine your favourite book/movie characters in the role (though I guess you could use jpgs from the net for portraits).

The fun comes in upgrading those characters - gaining experience points by fighting/solving quests. This gives increased points to body, mind, quickness, strength etc etc allowing you to travel to more dangerous parts.

Barbarians get a large number of points to body, those that can do magic get the least (hence position them at the back of the party) - but they get new deadly spells.

Its also great fun getting money and weapons from things you've defeated as you kit out your characters in different bits of armour, weapons, rings with special powers.

The whole thing revolves around choosing which characters you want in your party (all warriors, lots of magaicians, mixed?) and building those characters up - eventually getting lots of strength, spells, and cool equipment (buy items in towns etc).

The second fun aspects is that its not like a first person shooter where you have to do things in certain orders. In the old M&M games you had a vast world to explorer (a "block" area of the world would load at a time).

You were not restricted at all - though if things proved too tough you'd need to run away quick! Exploring was great fun - especially on one of the later games where you started off owning a castle which you could explorer. Rope bridges in the mountains, cold ice fields, pleasent towns, elf towns up in the trees, indoor areas (castles, caves, dungeons and a huge dwarf world all underground) proved fun.

How bout an RPG along the lines of Star Control II.

I'm not really interested in supermegahypergraphics FPS MMORPG games which require more PC hardware than the NSA have. Hell, if they re-made & re-vamped Quazatron, which I spent many long hours playing on my old Spectrum 48k, I'd be ecstatic.

I'd like to see something based on the GalCiv universe - perhaps a RTS game, with scenarios able to be generated from actual GalCiv game events (I'm thinking ground invasions here...). or an Elite-style space sim / trading game (again, with the new story generator planned for the expansion, there could be cross-game scenario generation... and we could have a facility to trade timelines with each other. Now THAT would be pretty cool. That would be very cool, in fact... different races having different techs, so you can buy cool lasers from the Drengin, but if you work for them the Arceans won't sell you their neat shield tech, etc... and every game would be different. Some in continuous galactic warfare where a mercenary does well, others "peaceful", dominated by espionage and treacherous diplomacy. And you won't know how the story will go in advance if you're using a timeline downloaded by someone else. Damb, but I like that idea!).

Oh please not another Kohan style game. There are so many games like that and its just too simple. You can do ANYTHING with this type of theme, use your imagination.

MoM2 would be sweet also ;o)

What I think would be cool is a RPG/FPS, I'm thinking something along the lines of GTA, Go anywhere, do anything, something like oblivion. But I would like to have a Sci fi theme. I'd like to be able to fly to different places in the ship that you build and customize and upgrade. I want awesome space combat, don't know if I would prefer that to be in the FPS aspect or just a third person, but I'd want to control my ship, do anything I want. Join the battle with a ally and be able to attack them after your both done killing your enemy. Be able to land on abandoned planets and mine minerals to be sold (like Starflight). Be able to land on inhabited planets or space stations and walk around getting into fights with your character (FPS). Not sure about multiplayer. It would make things intresting, but I'd prefer not to pay monthly. Maybe take a Guild wars approach and have free servers and just pay full price for the game, they could release expansions and have you paying full price for those as a way to get there money out of it. Anyway, just my thoughs.

Something that could be fun is a MORGP, a Multiplayer Online RPG. Not massive, but you could run servers on your own and play the RPG with friends. Add that with the GalCiv level of customization you could almost create your own RPG story line to play with your friends. An RPG where you are both the player and gamemaster. If the game was based on some random variables not even the person writing it could see where it's going. Even better is if each player could add their addition to the plotline, making the RPG seem endless and fun.

All I have to say about RTS is that there hasn't been an amazing one for many years and less than a half-dozen have gotten close to the Starcraft Magic. They get old so fast. Build up, attack, win. Build up, attack, win.

I think the key thing that the next game must have is multiplayer. GalCiv2 didn't have it and I'm with the group that doens't want it. But I do want a Stardock multiplayer game just because they'll do it right. If Gamespy is involved, however, my anger will be limitless.

Heres a shot in the dark....

An rpg along the lines of Freelancer and the like... but as an added twist you can import galactic data from Galciv2 and the general universe would be based on that...

talk about replay value... as well as the fact that it would be totally awesome to play a game in GC2 to the point where all the major players are established, then switch over to the rpg for some open-ended sweetness...

Hmmm...actually pulling off those coup d'etats could be fun. I think that it would be amazing for a GalCiv3 game to generate the RPG story line.

An FPS game in the GC2 universe. I want to fly around first person blowing up enemy ships and invading planets in my Flagship. I want to command fleets of fighters and battle cruisers to provide support. What can I say, I love this GC2 4x game, but a good graphicly intense shooter is near to my heart. I didn't buy a $350 video card for nothin

Just curious- what was wrong with the first Kohan- outside of AI/micro issues?

Kohan 2 I can understand the hate for...

FPS's are too easy to come by now, we need a good RPG that isn't an MMO, is big, is expansive, is non-linear, and is original.

Master of Magic 2

Plain and simple.

God, i've waited for this game to be made sence I beat MoM for the 20th time.
