Hey S31Apoc, I'm in the process of backing everything up once again. We were a bit more redundant this time fearing if we made to big of a noise on it before we released this would happen! I'm sorry they got to you, I hope 1and1 can get them!

We made sure everyone within the team had a copy of this version, and backups stored off of our computers as well as on. Now though its out to the public so at least we have it out this time, I hope they just stop, its really immature.

Oh, and thanks for the compliments DG and S31!

Hi guys! I just wanted to give everyone an idea of what our next release will include in addition to this one!

Next In Line:
-Tech Tree - Splitting up the tech tree for each race.
-Weapons - Adding individual weapons and defenses for each race
-English Str. - Altering the English str and other needed files to have ST flavor
-Minor Races - More hulls, we just don't feel 130 is enough.
-Minor tweaks and bug fixes - Fixing our sins of the past

So I've tried downloading the file twice from your website and both times, near the end of the install process I get a "CRC failed" warning in the file "war01.mp3". It also says that there was an "unexpected end of archive".

My only option is to close the install dialog box. The file that I downloaded was 1,250,723 KB in size (according to my Windows Explorer) - is this correct?

Read the forum, its all explained there
What you installed still works Dionysis - and Spax is correct, its explained on our forum. There was an error, but instead of making everyone wait another day for us to upload, we just corrected those two files, they are only music files so the game works without them it would just be the standard Gal Civ 2 music when the system chose to play those files, we did however place a .rar file on the server to download so everyone can also get thsoe two!
Yeah, I found out after returning that this file was one of two that were corrupted in the initial install file creation. Downloaded the patch and everything works fine.

Now off to conquer the galaxy ... ah, I mean explore the galaxy peacefully

Hey guys great Mod well worth the wait... I just got into my first war with the dominion and noticed there are no SFX or graphics for my weapons...(using plasma3) I did download and install the patch so just wondering if u knew what was up.
Plus I can't log in at the new website something about being deactivated
Reply #209 Top
SFX problems, this will be coming out as a fix soon. Sorry, it was a problem with my upload, it wasn't just those two files, it was also the folders after that, luckly it was just minor files.
Oh and for some reason a handful of peopel were deactivated, I don't think this has anything to do with the hack, just lack of my understanding of the forum and lack of either logging in or posting. I reactivated you luckyirishguy sorry about that!

I am loving the mod, but I seem to get the odd vanishing ship. This seems linked to the invisible parts. Though the ships do seem to appear once you've reloaded.

I was curious, is there a way to bring all the parts back into the mod?
I'd like to have the option of having them there if I want. Perhaps later editions could be coupled with UDFM mod?

Either way, this is outstanding work and well worth the download time.

the parts are suppose to be gone, and am glad they are

AACK!

I can't log into your forum - I never received the activation email .

Please activate me on your forum (same name - CobraA1).

Anyways - I knew right after downloading it why it was so big.

Geeze, why the long intro video? That's way too long.

Chop it up, make it shorter and higher quality. There's no need to show long battle scenes. Just show enough to make your point.

Give each major race a few seconds, and move on. No need for a 30-second clip for each race.

After introducing the major races, say "and many more" and end there. Battles are cool to watch, yes, but you are making an intro to the mod, not a feature-length film of Star Trek clips.

In addition, it needs more optimizations. I'm getting some bitrate spikes that make the framerate stutter and show lots of artifacts. If your video tools have a way of smoothing out the bitrate and reducing artifacts, use it.

Same with all of the other videos - video takes up well over half of the mod!!

But the video itself is great! The tansitions are good, I love the way it's layed out, etc. It just needs to be shorter and more optimized.

The ships could use a few more polys. Texture detail is good, but warp nacelles shouldn't be cubes! Even the low end computers should be able to handle more.

Also - I noticed the faces of some of the civilizations were distorted when selecting a race. Always maintain aspect ratio when resizing, please, and clip if neccessary.

The ship customization stuff seems a little odd, but that's probably just lack of time. Hopefully in the future, it'll be more like GalCiv2. I'd love to be able to grab a hull, plyon, and warp engine and create a Freedom class starship, or four warp engines and make a Cheyenne class.

The classes from the battle of Wolf 359 can be found here:

Other than that, great mod! I know I'm being a bit critical, but I'm trying to be constructive about it. After all, It's a great mod and I'd love to see it improved.

@Cobra A1

Thanks for the input. You shouldn’t need an activation email to complete the registration to log into the forum. I’ll double check to be sure.

After reading your post you do seem pretty critical of the mod. Please keep in mind that we’re not professional game makers. We’re just doing this in our spare time. We’ve also had to fight through some tough odds to get to this point in the mod development. Is the mod perfect? No but something could always be better.

The mod team will review your ideas and implement them if they make sense. As far as the models I haven’t encountered any cubes on the warp nacelles.
Warp nacelles on the london class for example of have cube edges and not rounded over like the other classes are.

Is that the right forum?

I know. Take it with a grain of salt - I still like the mod very much, jut want to see it improved.

The colony ship of the United Federation of Planets looked that way. Never heard of the London class. It seems to be borrowed from another video game.

About the best quality youll goin to get for the intro, because to edit it and convert it to bink, i have to change it from its orginal AVI, to WMV, edit it, convert it back to avi then covert it back to bik. You are goin to lose some quality there. And also got to consider More QUality- BIgger SIze. I did make a shorter version, but we had a vote , and every one liked the longer one better. So, there is a way to skip it if you dont want to watch it all (it is long).
none of my biz but, you could have one with a short or no intro & one like we have now.. be a choice for people with low banwidth, up to you guys
Reply #220 Top
You may want to mess around with the settings when doing the final conversion to bink - I've played around with it before, and I know there's a lot to adjust, and the defaults aren't all that good. Bringing up "How many frames to preview during bandwidth allocation" may help (if you haven't done so already).

I found that the latest version of Bink can convert WMV to BIK. The shorter you make your conversion path, the better. As you have said, all of those conversions are gonna affect the quality of the video.
We plan to reduce the size of this greatly, just need to work on a few things first. People with low bandwidth will be helped. All honestly, the Intro doesn't take up too much space compared to whats there, it sould still be a huge download. There are other easier ways to handle this.

1.22gb - 64mb= not enough to mess with

In any case, I am stuck not being able to login to the forums .
