I am new to the GalCiv universe, so if someone could be so kind as to explain what the purpose of joining something like this would be, that would be great.

I am in a BF2 and WoW clan, we play to excel and compete and whatnot...but there is no multiplayer in GalCiv2. Why join up with other people?

OK here goes: There are two highscore lists in the Metaverse. Game characters and Empires. Your game character will compete in the characters list anyway but if you join an empire your score gets also added to the empire's score and you will compete with your team mates in that highscore list, too. So basically you work together with other people to bring your empire to the top. Besides: It's also a lot about having fun and interacting with other players (as well as bashing people from other empires). It's a second source of motivation, I guess. And you can role play a bit if you want - that's why I founded a BSG empire, because I love that show and wanted to recreate a bit of its excitement...

BTW, welcome to GalCiv. You will love it, I'm sure. Maybe you'll also discover that the Metaverse way of doing it can be as exciting (or even more so) than "real" multiplayer.

I like multiplayer games, but I was looking for something different with GalCiv2. Is there any empire that is planning on doing game examples/battle reports and various fiction short stories and whatnot? I guess you could do that here, in the forums, but I was looking at something where your empire could share and critique your work in a more flame free atmosphere...though these forums are pretty tame in comparison to the vast majority.

Exactly what I'm planning to do. I set up a members only section in our forums called "DRADIS console" just for that purpose. Top secret fleet-only business, of course!

I've just gotten an offical word on the metaverse games and the only restriction over sandbox is no modding. I don't have a problem with that so Gekomind I am in!
