How carriers work exactly.

I am on my way to build a carrier fleet for my custom race "Black Templars"

So how they work in detail. Can i load in my heavy bombers in them or are they automatically equipped with them?

The carrier module(s) you equip them with determines what they launch.

 

That is pretty much it. Different pods for different battle roles. They launch at the start of battle.
