Don't Fear the Newsman

Coming from a fairly independant political standpoint, I still watch Fox News. I have to say that I am a bit tired of the Swine Flu scare tactics. Why would a news orginization want to instill fear into it's viewers? There must be some deeply psychological methods for getting people to tune in.

Maybe when people are exposed to something they fear, they continue to visit the source, "just in case" there is a new development. Of course, there always is a new development. A new study found that we are all going die! Oh man lets tune in.

Judge the situation you are in by the circumstances around you, not by how afraid they tell you to be.

Why would a news orginization want to instill fear into it's viewers?

For that matter, why would a Republican or Democrat Administration? Cause they can, and they get away with it. Both so called news and the government get away with it.

Let's not forget that Obama himself said this was a National Emergency. Ironically, I heard a story this morning where they said that in Florida the swine flu has killed 31 people this year while drugs and alcohol have killed thousands yet there is more action currently being taken to tackle the H1N1 pandemic as quickly as possible.

Chuck, I'd argue that people take drugs and alcohol, but I've yet to see someone ask for the flu.

Most of the flu news I'm hearing concerns the lack of availability of the vaccine, which was disastrous a few years ago, but apparently only mildly irritating this year. With health care being the hot button topic, how the gov. handles medical decisions large and small magnifies all related topics. If one feels there is too much coverage, one still has control of their TV sets off switch. 24 hour news, doesn't mean one must watch it 24 hours a day.
