Hey guys, Just got back from the weekend...we're on it :)

Ohh...not the white screen :SNIFF!: I fear it's the 'Shader 2' issue creeping up again :( * Copy and pasted from another post, for sorry if it's impersonal ;) * Basicially, even if you can INSTALL DirectX9c, it dosent meen that your card is necessarilly COMPATABLE with it, inparticular the use of Pixel Shader 2. Older cards will show a white screen with text-in-tact if Shader 2 is not supported, which it sounds like your problem is. Now, there a
Yeah, your debug.err would be helpful, but I fear it's the 'Shader 2' issue creeping up again :( Basicially, even if you can INSTALL DirectX9c, it dosent meen that your card is necessarilly COMPATABLE with it, inparticular the use of Pixel Shader 2. Older cards will show a white screen with text-in-tact if Shader 2 is not supported, which it sounds like your problem is. Now, ther are 2 options :) 1. If you've been meening to upgrade your video card, perhaps now
OK Joel, resent :) Hope it works this time!
Tototot: Was your the 'Joel' email? I sent back a zip...perhaps it got removed by a finniky server :) I'll send again!
OK :) Just shoot me a request at and I'll zip you a test EXE over asap!
Yeah, thanks Chris :) Coming off of the GalCiv series (where we're loved) it's been a hard transition into PM2008 - a game which we're all pretty proud of, but getting a lot more flak from all sides. Glad you're liking it, and feel free to make any suggestions for future updates :)
OK, so we got a machine that reproduces your guys' problem. I start a game, pick my candidates, and the game locks up after the VS screen. The good news is that we have a prospective fix. We'll add a 'Simple Icon' mode that will cut down the number of polys being rendered SIGNIFICANTLY. The bad news is that it'll take a few days to get in and tested :SNIFF!: We're shooting for a 1.04 next Tueaday, so I'll try to keep you guys in the loop as progress is made.</
I'm locking this thread. Andrew: You know where to go to get a refund ;) And I'm not meaning this rudely, but I really suggest not buying any more PC games if you can't show paticence when a system that barely meets the min requirements gives you trouble. I would never suggest my parents get into PC gaming for the same reason...there are just too many places where things can go wrong.
Well, I can see you're both below the min Memory requirements (512mb) though Rob, you're only below by 2MB so I don't know why that would make a huge difference. I have an idea that should bring down memory usage, but I need to talk to the coders about it first...see if it's feasable before shouting it from the rooftops :) I'll keep you posted. Also, are either of you playing on laptops? I wonder if they're just running too hot when that map tries to load (again, can't i
1.03 is up!!!! My fingers are crossed that this fixes everyones problems :) Though my heart knows that it'll be a few more updates before EVERYONE is happy :SNIFF!:
Yeah, we've talked it over a few times now and I dont think there's a software solution to the Shader 2 delimma :( As for options.... 1. Contact and let them know what happened. They may ask for some assistance in determining that Shader2 IS the cause of the problems, but they're your first step towards a refund. 2. If you've been looking for an excuse to upgrade your hardware, perhaps now is the time :H
Hey Justin, Just put up 1.03 on Impulse. Can you update and see if those changes help your mid-game freezes? Thanks man!
Hey Catch, We've jsut put up a 1.03 update, available on Impulse...can you download that and see if the game gets any further? If not, can you repost the debug.err...the updatew will print out more useful information to use when bughunting :) Thanks!
I don't think the debug.err is going to be around after wiping his machine ;) 1. Can you think of any reason a blank candidate would be created when editing an existing one? 2. What could have possibly have gone so wrong as to cause his machine (not while running PM) to crash after PM crashed? I dont think it's a hardware problem, cause everything seems to work fine now :\ I'm at a loss...this is a really weird one.
You had to wipe your computer?! What did you do to this poor computer, Political Machine?!? Do you know any of your system specs? This is a weird one (but a doozy that needs to be fixed).
This is a problem with developing for PC...while we tested the heck out of a 'Minimum Requirement' machine, there's an infinate number of differences between our computers and the ones (like yours) that are getting this bug. After working with several of the customers, we got a PC that simulated the choppiness and yes , the patch fixes it on that setup. I don't see why it wouldn't fix your graphics problem, but again, the nature of PC gaming means, for whateve
I've waited to play this game since it was announced -- I can wait a little while longer
We appreciate your (and everyone elses) paticence in dealing with some of these oddities. We have an update being tested internally that should get the game running better for you guys! Seriously..thanks again for your paticence...you guys rock! :HOT:
Andrew: While upgrading your drivers MAY help, would you mind waiting for the 1.03 patch that should be coming out shortly? Our preliminary tests show a nice performance boost on NVidia cards like yours, so I'd like to see if that side of things is fixed. Also, concerning the MP side of things, is it letting you at least get into the lobby? IIRC, you can connect to an open game without those ports being open, you just can't host a game. But lets see if we can improve your FPS
I would imagine Berndie wants some 'performance upgrades' to come well before a map editor takes priority ;)
Hey Berndie, We have a new build being tested internally which SEEMS to give some significant pep to cards with slowdown/choppiness problems. We'll let you know when this is availble for you guys :) Really can't wait to see if these fixes solve your problems!
Is this in a saved game? If so, can you send it to ? Thanks!
The OP should know that we ARE a Detroit based company. Requesting features then slamming our 'Wings' probably isn't a good way to get said feautres ;) But yes, we are discussing the release of the editors, albeit in an 'unsupported' state.
https://www.stardock.com/stardock/sds_returns.html The official refund policy dictates that, for a full refund, there has to be a fair attempt to get the game working. If we could peek at your debug.err, perhaps we can help get your game running at a more playable speed.
Also, it looks like your video drivers may be about a year and a half overcooked :) Could you try updating those and see if the crashes get nipped in the bud?
