Yeah, sounds like your video card is just too old...PM requires Shader2 or better. If you've been looking to upgrade to a newer one, you can get a Shader 3 compatable card for around $25 online. In fact, here's one that's actually Shader4 compatable for $18.99 after a mail in rebate. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127241 Of course, if you still just want a

Make sure you have your candidate selected. If an ad/hq/etc is selected, it'll do nothing (since you can't move these objects). Just press the 'C' key or left Click on your candidates portrait (in the lower left corner) to auto-select your player.

Are you playin a store-bought copy, or one downloaded from us? If it's a story copy, can you make sure to update to the latest version. There have been alot of fixes to memory usage, which sounds like it may be the problem. Also, can you post the contents of your 'my documents/my games/pm2008/debug.err' file here for us to look at? Thanks!
Also am I the only one who got Dennis Kucinish intead of Kucinich?
We put up an update yesterday to fix that...some XML files didn't get uploaded correctly on our end :(
Is there a change log somewhere?
But of course! :) - TPM2008 v1.04 Changelog - + NEW: Simple Icon Mode + Allows the game to run smoother and use less memory on older machines. + Still requires DirectX 9 com

Today the Political Machine team put the finishing touches on 1.04, an update that adds some new candidates to the fold (Gravel, Huckabee, and Kicinich), as well as a 'Simple Icon' mode that will add some pep to the game on slower machines. Users will also see a significant improvement in memory usage and a slew of new candidate peices to use when building your political avatar!

I tend to place Campaign HQ's in states that I NEED to win, since they give the largest awareness boost and keep me from having to switch back to 'Political Strategy' mode. The other two get divvied out amongst the stragglers, with more Consulting Offices being placed earlier so I can raise a nice late-game army of operatives :)

That was rude of the game....It can SUGGEST a new card, but to demand it X-( I will punish the game for it's lip ;)

Laughman: I would suggect updating your drivers, but I have a bad feeling your card dosent support Shader 2 (DirectX9 compatablity) :(
The Impulse install is after the regular game install, so no impulse either.
I think that's why Charles posted the link ;) As for not reading the customers concerns, besides posting the link to get Impulse (which does let you install) there's not much that can be done/said about CD's that have already been printed. At best, it's something that will have to be fixed in the next run.

Hey Democrat08, Sorry for your problems, but can you go into your 'my documents/my games/pm2008' folder and post the contents of your Debug.ERR file? That should give us something to work with to help figure out what could be wrong :) Thanks!

10 Replies 8,261 Views

Sorry :) it's under 'my documents/my games/polmachine2008/debug.err'. That file has all the good stuff (comp specs, video card driver info, etc) that we need to determine the cause of your woes.

8 Replies 11,896 Views

Before you get a video card, can you list your debug.err so we can rule out any other issues? From what I saw, you're having a 'failed to init display' which dosent necessarilly meen you need a whole new card. Thanks man!
still wondering if I can disable him being chose by the AI in any way.
Not ATM, but im sure we can work something out. In the meantime, just go into the data/english folder, make a copy of the 'Candidates.xml' file (for MP purposes) and remove the Kona candidate from the xml file that's used....quick and dirty, but gets the job done :)

Yeah, we were hoping to get a nice 4th of July patch out, but just couldn't get everything nailed down :( Next week we'll get it into your hands though ;)

21 Replies 28,712 Views

Yeah, expect more candidates as the major bugs are delt with...there are still some computers that refuse to play nice with PM2008, which takes priority ATM :( As for Lord Kona being removed, you could always remove him from the CoreCandidates file (though this will give you troubles in MP) but as long as most people like him (concensus is that he's good, silly fun) he's probably going to stay ;)

Those Vertex Buffer error s are so weird...you're system is definatly above the min specs we've been testing on. Are there any spyware filters / antivirus programs running that could be hogging resources? Also, if you dont mind doing some searching, Cari posted a way to make sure you have enough virtual memory available, so if the game needs a bit of overflow, it can use your harddrive without the PC getting angry :)

It was a stamina banking 'bonus' that the AI was getting on higher difficulty levels, but the logic faltered on the highest levels. In 1.04, the bonus will still be in, but the effects gradiation is better preserved, meening you'll see the calmer, more deliberate McCain we've all come to love (?).
