Chris has abandoned you. We have been making arrangements with him behind your back. We are turning the two of you against each other so that you will wipe each other out... leaving an opening for us to be foremost in CariElf's attention. You have no chance to survive make your time. -Drake ~SDC~

Geez. I have personally offended the head developer now. Enough is enough. I said what I wanted to say, and I'm done. No offense was intended, and apologize if any was taken. -Drake ~SDC~
Yeah. I have also noticed that it is a LOT easier to become evil than to become good. Typically I take all the goody two shoes choices and can't get to good morality until later in the game, when the empire wide events start happening. But boy oh boy can you become evil fast. Kind of like in real life. -Drake ~SDC~
Sadly source code is all Greek to me. Let me pop in again to say that we LOVE this game and think you did and are doing a GREAT job. That's actually why we are so anal about it. We have become totally engrossed in it. And if the AI does things we can't do, and it's not worth the time it would take to change it, fair enough. It's impossible to ask you to write and AI that can simulate a human well enough to play a versatile game and beat the player without any aids. But we want to know that
You scum! I was one message too late. That's okay. She still likes me better. -Drake ~SDC~
Blue- Yes, you can. Mine typically float well above 40. Never think in terms of tax rate. Think in terms of approval rate. When you're moving the tax rate slider up and down, look at your approval rate. Depending on what part of the game you're in, you want it to be at certain places. I start the game with an approval rate of just over 90. When I am done colonizing, I move to just over 80. One things start rolling, I go down to just over 70. And in the middle to end game I keep
If you have the requisite techs, then you do it by flying a constructor to the starbase (obviously). The terror star options appear in the military (red) category and NOT the defense (green) category. If they're not there and you DO have the tech, it is because the UP has voted to illegalize them. If you have a really strong economy and you feel a real need to have terror stars, you can leave the UP. Personally, I almost never use terror stars. The idea of permanently blowing up sys
Although, if I understand correctly, the morale change is also based upon the bonus. Try this. Play a game where you pick all evil choices. Usually they are pretty small bonuses, so it takes a while to become evil. Then keep an eye out when you're playing your usual goodie two shoes way. You take all of the again minor good choices... but if you see a +50% PQ choice, take it. WHAM. Instant evil SOB. -Drake ~SDC~
I was wondering if anybody could help me play a good evil/bully game. I have gotten pretty good at GalCiv and I can fairly easily trounce the computer on Intelligent.. but I always play the same way. Be nice to everybody, trade a lot, build up a strong economy and research infrastructure, get dreads first and pound at least one player... then either pound the others or, with my newly expanded empire, swallow them culturally or turn them into allies. I would like to play as evil, and n
Yup. In my games too. -Drake ~SDC~
Whoa! I have never had this event. They have PLANETS? So it's like a killer brutal minor race suddenly pops up, or what? -Drake ~SDC~
The only problem with the cheating is this: Allegedly the GalCiv AI does not cheat. Now, either of the following two situations are acceptable: (1) The AI cheats, and everybody knows and admits it and just plays anyway... like in every other game. (2) The AI does not cheat, so it can be honestly said that it does not cheat. What is frustrating is the actual situation - that the AI cheats even though everybody says it doesn't. I have mounted up so much evi
Here is another game which shows the problem: http://www.restorethepledge.com/rapacity/GalCiv/battleship.rar This time included the debug.err file. There is no mention in it of anybody trading for battleship tech, and it doesn't appear to list what techs were researched, so I'm not sure if it's that much help. But anyway, again the Altarians have battleship technology even though nobody else does and they do not have interstellar tactics. Another thing. Now that I a
We are congregated here to give honor to our friend MM7, who keeps our time on GalCiv from becoming too serious by continually amusing us with his hillarious, albeit spectacularly bizzare antics. I am the president. Whoever grabs the job first can be the veep. To review our idol's qualifications for our worship thus far observed: 1. He somehow managed to make the WAR party turn ANGELIK and forget there PAIN while trying to play evil; :SURPRISED: 2. He has never w
You named your CAR after the object of our adulation? Like any good member of the club I would give my life for a kind word from CariElf... but I'm sorry, that is just plain weird. -Drake ~SDC~
No, the same tree. So something funny is going on. Like I said before "battleship technology" shows up as his most time intensive research. So I would bet 55 creds for 17 turns and interstellar capitalism technology that something funny is going on. If he isn't jumping techs, then there is a bug in what shows up as his most time intensive research. I remain convinced that despite the developers' honest opinion that the AI doesn't cheat, something got by them. Put aside the jumping
I second the motion on the Master of Magic II. That was my favorite game EVER until GalCiv. If you guys did MOM II... wow. I bet it would be unbelievable. -Drake ~SDC~
Popup- Thanks. Apparently you're talking about the debug file. It's too late this time around, but I will remember that for next time. -Drake ~SDC~
Getting the hang of diplomacy in GalCiv takes time. The FIRST thing to know, which will explain your problems with industrial theory and corvettes, is that the computer *hates* to trade for certain techs. Mostly they are ship techs, but for some random reason industrial theory is one of them. Try this some time. Get behind on the defensive part of the tree and then go to trade with the computers. They will trade you shields more readily than they will trade you deflectors. WTF? Anyway, le
I recommend starting on the setting they are at when you first install the game... sub-normal, I think. This is not like every other game you have played where "normal" means "laughably easy." In my opinion the biggest jump is between sub-normal and normal. It's only a small increase in the computer's economy, but normal is the level where it starts pulling out the basic killer tactics which haunt you at the higher levels. -Drake ~SDC~
What does building up shipyards do, anyway? The thing just says +x% starship. Is that to hit points, or attack and defense, or what? -Drake ~SDC~
Russel- Was that the post titled "WAR party turns ANGELIK and forgets there PAIN?!?!?!" I loved that post. Every time I saw the title in the list of threads it cracked me up. I want to create a special event for it. WAR party turns ANGELIK and forgets there PAIN!!!!! (picture of soldiers throwing their guns down and hugging in the background, while a guy in the foreground is smacking his forehead in frustration) good: Far out, man. Peace is groovy. (-10 h
Regardless of whether the game cheats or not, which I won't get into here, Arthur's problems can be solved. The key is to keep your tax rate reasonable. Too high and it stifles population growth. Don't do what I do when I found this out and crank it down so that your morale is always in the 90s, though. That will result in you not being able to develop your worlds and getting behind that way. As far as the military thing goes, there are several possibilities. First is to build your own mil
Starts do vary WILDLY. In the game before my current game, I got a start which was simply jaw dropping. It was on a medium map with common habitable planets, all AIs set to intelligent. I am a fairly agressive expander, and it was about an average expansion for me. My initial empire was as follows (all PQs natural, before any improvements): 1 PQ 26 2 PQ 19 1 PQ 18 2 PQ 17 8 PQ 16 3 PQ 15 For a total of SEVENTEEN worlds near enough for me to grab them fir
Okay, to follow up. At this point I can say with confidence that the AI is somehow getting techs in a way which the human player cannot. Here: http://www.restorethepledge.com/rapacity/GalCiv/techflow.rar That's my current game. The Altarians are boxed into one corner with only three planets. Their tech graph is pretty much flatline, while mine is way up in the clouds along with the Torians. But the Altarians have every tech I have, plus five or so others. He's not
