I was find until I updated last version. Prior to that, i changed as not to use a full window as Galactopedia crashed my games when I switched back and forth. Uninstalled gsame, reinstalled and I can't get my mouse to respond to even set options to hardware mouse. Catch 22!! WTF. Geforce 6800GT. This looks likes its been an old problem (Feb 2006) or so and would like to have an answer or I need my money b

I appreciate all the insights in these posts and have learned a lot. I just recently got Gal Civ II and am on my first game but I've been playing it with a Gal Civ I mentality concerning ships. ** Where the hell is the technology tree that lets me build battleships?? ** Good stuff guys.

1) All ships that have a travel limit and must be resuppplied, either by returning to a base, planet or supply ship. Weapon use has to be resupplied. 2) Supply Ships! 3) Repair ships. They can travel with fleets when developed or singularly. Been out of the loop for a longgg time but this looks interesting to me. Brad and company do quality work so this will be something to look forward to.

A suggestion is to get updated drivers. You may have bought a new card that has sat on the shelf somewhere for a while. Also you can check your Direct X setup (Diagx I think) at the Run command. I've got a Dell Dim 4400 with a SB Live Value (that Dell would put a "Value" in the sort of system I bought still rankles me) and have no CTD sound problems.

All comments made, not by just beta testers, affect the future direction of this game by Frogboy & Co. Upgrades and patches occurs almost on a bi-monthly basis, which are all free. The fact that a company like Stardock would go out and develope an expansion and ultimately release it for free that other companies would charge you dollars for is unheard of in the gaming community. That said, how Stardock chooses to do conduct their business is, well, their business. I daresay with the

Everytime I use sector sweep it never seems to work correctly. May this will be fixed in the upcoming expansion. Also, there is an auto retreat function which never seems to work either - my ships continue to go on to their merry demises. What would be nice is that this would work correctly as well as the ability to set a level of damage that your ship retreats at, ie., 20%, 40%, etc. I played a game somewhere (Civ 3, Deadlock ?)along the line that had this incorporated.

I think the "gifts" are programmed to come at an opportune time which is a nice features of Gal Civ. I find myself the recipient of these gifts from time to time and they help you become viable enough to win. I can't remember the # of Corvettes I got one time but I think it was in excess of 55. Broke them up into three groups to do various things. I like the Rangers better, tho... ;)
If opponent alignment is less than 50, the Altarians want to kill him.
So true. I find it strange (and amusing!) that I may pick one or two "evil" choices and I'm on the Alts pooplist. The Torians invariably end up as their ally and my best partners (for the moment) become the Yor & Dregs, with their evil tendencies and all!

In Gal Civ, you are already researching techs (and spending bc) to get +10% offense, defense, speed, range, etc, etc. You are also researching techs to get you to a newer class of ship (corvette -> battleship, transport -> combat transport etc, etc) to which these other bonuses are added. I'm not sure what other "customizing" is being envisioned but to me it does not seem like it would work in the current framework of the game. The additional ship topic has been discussed before and I

Belgium is kinda in the MIDdle of WESTERN Europe. Join the Mid-Western Confederation Empire and you can be our European franchise player! ;) An honorable and notable position indeed! [Message Edited]

Thanks for the info, Pontius. So you get event reports about civs even if you haven't had contact with them. Makes sense as I couldn't get past the Dregs in my attempt at mastering larger maps. The current game I'm playing, the Dregs ain't getting the chance to cut me off! ;) Thanks again.

No, Northstar, I didn't. It would of been nice and I had a system all picked out for them that was, ehmm, inconvenient for me to have. This might of been some sort of bug because I went to every civ looking for a grocery list of techs but didn't see them. Certainly didn't want to leave that gift on the table! I noticed an earlier tread that talked about the ability to steal techs but no one had my issues. I think it occurred because I was getting creamed and my personal theory is th

Have anyone ever got the message: "Such and such minor has stolen all the technology from the Drengins and is willing to trade them, preferably for some star systems"? I got this message while being made photon fodder by the Dregs and all this technology would of been nice except I couldn't find the right minor! First of all the message caught me by surprise and I wasn't sure who was the "thief." I went into all the minors (and majors, just in case I got the msg wrong) and there was no techs

I got the prison escape once and I think it was because the Yor took out my defenses on the planet it was located on. No orbital planet defense = prison escape? They were Ranger class ships, one step ahead of were I was. If only the UP didn't vote me the caretaker of the prison... Que lastima! ;)
However... That's >600 turns of doing nothing and I did not loose then I had a CTD but no more desire to reload an autosave and contiue. So I can't imagine that one can loose Cakewalk when doing something.
I think I've discovered a new strategy... ;) Good English and laughing with you, Bro!
I disagree. TBS include go and chess, where you don't lose focus because there is only one thing you can do on your turn
You're right - I didn't choose my words carefully enough, LDi. I should of said in TBS you control when the action occurs, as opposed to RTS where the amount of action is, outside of some strategies (and the Pause button), out of your control. Chess is an excellent example of an all-encompassing TBS. This game does it for me too - love it! <

I don't know if this will help you focus more but you could try "other" abilities/political orientation just to see what the differences are in your game. Being oppressed more or less by other civs? How quickly is your influence/economy growing/shrinking? Up your level of play? Decide that you WANT to win and not the computer? My problem is that I probably get a little addicted to this game and a few others that I play. Passion, baby. The energy is there being hooked up

All these are valid and something I also need to implement better. My last two games (normal) by the time I rushed trade goods, traded or developed techs to keep the Drengin off my back (they declared war), I was almost "overcome" by other colors. Taking the Dregs out gave me more of the galaxy and breathing room. Culturally enhanced star bases helped more than anything as it was too early in the game (at least for me) for some of the more advanced cultural things. I like the war sug

Personally, I like the trading angle with the minors because you sure don't get a break with the majors. Overall, well done. I never really have had any crashes or that sort of thing. The updates via Stardock work great! I noticed that the majors try to use the Phoenix more. It looks they are beefed up a bit more and that is ok. I like the concept of the ship but at the stage of the game they are available, they are only good for specialized roles. Maybe if you give them a

Crushbone is right. Bought a P4 1.6gz Dell last year w/256MB and recently added 512MB to it for under a $100.00 (probably cheaper by now). That easily tripled my speed in a lot of areas & games. Basically, I got the memory to play BF1942 and the memory addition was well worth it. At the next to highest amount of galaxy, I might have to wait a second or two. Next thing, tho not so much in Gal Civ is the video card/memory...on me wish list! :)
