I have similar strategies. But on my first turn, I buy a colony ship, raise taxes to 50-60%, spending to 100% and 100% research. Depending on the size of the map, I'll do different things. Medium or smaller, I keep research maxed until I get grav accel, then max social until I build dip trans and grav accel which I can then sell. On larger maps, I'll split the research and military spending so I can colonize as many worlds as possible.

I actually don't make any shipyards anymore unless war is imminent (which I can usually avoid now). I produce enough military power so the AI won't attack because I'm too weak. And then I take over the universe culturally, 1 planet at a time. If I play lower levels though, I'll just have a good old war with my high PQ planets pumping out the warships with the shipyards.
There is good in all of us, even if we choose the path of the dark side. But even now, on occasion, I too feel the power of the dark side. The power of a +25% PQ is too strong to fight against and once I start down that path, the game is lost to evil. :SURPRISED:
I do the same thing if it is imperitive. If there are mulitple planets in that system, then there might be more than one ship built. The AI does seem to keep a pretty good balance of money on hand unless you drain it from them (trade techs for the AI's money).
I have the same thing happen more often than not. I just assume it's my computer since it is on the low end (PIII-600MHz, 128MB RAM).
Luck is a great pick. I get tons of Rangers in the games. You can always make your own influence with SBs later in the game. It's not really worth the picks.
LOL, I didn't buy the card for the cutscenes LOL I needed the new card to play Rise of Nations and it just happened to help out the cutscenes in GalCiv.
I get slowdowns, but nothing near that. On a Gig map, late game, it takes about 3-4 minutes to load and a turn is about 30-60 seconds, but occasionally longer. I am running on an old comp though (PIII, 600MHz, 128MB RAM) so I'm not surprised at my slowdown.
I've had a similar thing happen to me, but not back to back like that. It would be nice to force them to break their alliance instead of having to sue for peace all the time.
I have the game and I thinks it's great. It's very similar to AOE, but improved. And not having to worry about stuff depleting is a great feature and adds to the strategy (since you can't "hog" all the resources). And things never depleting is fairly realistic since the game doesn't go far into the future and we still havn't depleted the resources in the real world either. And if a resource is scarce, it cost ALOT of money to buy. Great game.
This one is a great one to get. Nothing like seeing that armada coming at you miles away.
I also usually play on the good side. But like anomalyst, I cannot resist the big PQ bonuses.
I had those same cut scene problems until I bought a new video card (old one was 3dfx Voodoo3 16 MB...new one is ATI Raden 9200 128MB). That solved my problem with the cut scenes.
I've searched the galaxy for ages, fighting the growing forces of evil throughout the quadrants. But to no avail as the evil kept creeping closer and closer to my homeworld. No others had joined my cause and I was left to fight alone. Until... Until a calling was sent out, a summoning. A great White Council was being formed combining the forces of good to fight this growing menace. I finally had my answer and allies to my cause. Perhaps we can save my homeworld after all and rid t
I tend to win through military victory by culture bombs. I've even had games where I get a military win with no ships lost and no ships killed. :D ~SDC~
Ah, now it finally allowed me to join. Thanks again. I've been playing GalCiv almost since the game was released. I started an Empire immediately, but alas, no other hockey fans out there would join me. So I played and enjoyed the game while i waited for the MOO3 patch to come out and found that this game was quite addicting. I found that I had to turn off cultural victory. It just shorted the game considerable when I won that way. I've continued to bump up the difficulty level an
Thank you for allowing me to join your fight against the dark lords. I will join as soon as it will allow me (I just left my empire and it seems I cannot join another yet). ~SDC~
Very true. I hope that is fixed. When it first happened to me, I did wonder what was happening. Maybe it'll be incorperated in future patches. ~SDC~
I've seen a FAQ or Forum thread that will tell you how it is done in detail.
Hail White Council, I see you also fight for the forces of good. I also fight for the forces of good within The Bruin Empire, but alas, my empire consists of only myself. If your invitation is still open, I would be honored to join your guild in fighting the forces of evil. bruinb77 ~SDC~
I agree that it is a bit annoying that the skull won't go away, but right now, it takes to failed checks for the system to revolt. So that skull will stay so you remember. ~SDC~
Another possibility (though less likely) is that you were in a sector with your starbases that gave you the movement bonus.
That's true. I think at least the AI could be limited to a certain amount of modules per difficulty level (like unlimited for maso). Right now, the AI isn't making much sense making many many starbases without modules. On the other hand, it is still a pretty good AI.
Another update: I decided to play a game through to Beyond Human victory to see how the AI would build up its starbases on the higher level (Genius). Looks like the same thing came up. The 2 sectors that had AI planets had over a dozen starbases in them with only 1 or two with modules. It appears that the AI needs tweaked a bit when it comes to starbase building.
Personally, I havn't seen one, but most of the time I've had them banned.
