So let's say here on Earth you wanted to build a research center. But you decide that you don't have enough money to do it quick enough, so instead of giving your scientists high-tech computers and lab equipment, you put them in a log cabin with abacuses (abacii?) and papyrus. It just doesn't work. Part of the reason that new technology is available is that you have turned your back on the old technology. I agree it's a hardship, but I think it makes sense the way it is. You shouldn't be able to

I think the problem lies in your +300% farm. Food doesn't make people happy, it just creates more people who in turn create more unhappiness. At your tech level a population of anything over 20 B on any planet is going to become unruly. Later when you get upgraded entertainment centers, and you get the stock market economic building which provides a 10% boost to morale they might become more manageable. However it seems that no matter what you do populations gradually grow more and more unhappy.
Yes, I just played a game long enough to get these, and it was pretty much game over once I did. The AI seems to be put off by thier cost, affording me even more of an advantage. Has anyone seen the AI use these? They are neat, but game breaking that early in the tech tree, and probably too small.
nothing is more satisfying than mating with a pawn Huh Huh. "Mating"
There are not enough techs and each tech in the early game is too important to allow their free exchange. The lack of technical specialization that results in pooling the techs removes much of the 'personality' from the AI races. I'd rather see one race specialize in manufacturing, one in weapons, one in planetary improvements, etc to reach their goal, than see everybody with everything from beginning to end of game. I'd hate to see tech trading gone completely, but I would like to see the AI ta
Kinda defeats the purpose of having 3 weapon paths when every single race in the game has every tech available.
Game freezes for a while then crashes to desktop. Seems to be related to invading one particular terran planet. I've had it happen both mid-turn and after clicking the turn button. Seeing as no one is posting here except people who are having trouble I thought I'd buck the trend and say I just bought the game and D/L'd it in its entirety (core game that is) in the time it took me to reheat and eat 2 slices of leftover pizza and pack and smoke a bowl. 300+KBS D/L rate the whole time. Now I'm going to start it up. Talk to you all in a month or so.
yeah - those guys were big into show tunes weren't they? I also think I found a bottle of "Locker Room" amongst the PreCursor artifacts once.
3 systems in one sector - Zoom, Schwartz, and Pafigliano -and / or- Manny, Moe, Jack 2 systems one good, one not so good Homestar, and Homsar (www.homestar.com -check it out if U don't get it) Largest systems in my empire - Megatokyo, New Babylon, Gotham Shipyard worlds: New Brooklyn, New Alameda, New Norfolk The Obligatory Dantooine / Tatooine / Alderan /Hoth - but nothing from that steaming pile of crap called Episode one or after.<b
I think if the tech is Stellar Cartography and not Yellow-Star Cartography it should do a little more than it does now. Wouldn't it be cool if the dots on your mini map would change color to the color of the actual star it represents? White Dots, Yellow Dots, Purple Dots, etc. That would make it a little more useful, and if not it would at least be cooler to have. But as it stands now, no AIs research it, so it makes good trade fodder, which is why I always research it anyway. I've never found
I don't know if this warrants an expansion pack to implement, but I was thinking that a great deal of strategic nuance could be added to the game on larger maps if the majors all started with TWO or maybe even THREE randomly scattered worlds. This would reduce the chance any race has of getting "cornered" and would require the player and the AI to work on multiple fronts. If you happened to have your worlds nearby each other this would strengthen your hold on that area, but weaken your ability
Actually, building a starbase in the minor's sector with culture improvements and then selling/giving it to them is a viable workaround. A little of a pain, but if I want to protect them from my galactic Brittany Spears and Coca-Cola it appears that I can. Plus they pay big for the base. Also, I would guess that beefing up the base's defense/offense capabilities goes a long way towards protecting them militarily. Thanks for that tip David!
oops look like I put this in the wrong forum, but I still want to see this in the game! :notsure:
I was thinking of something to consider for future patches, maybe as something you could select at the start of the game, or maybe just an overall change. I'd like to see the minor races be immune to the effects of influence. This way if I have a minor race in some corner, I can always have a late game trading partner. I hate the late game where my culture starts ballooning and swallows of all my trading partners. Plus it seems odd that "Independant League" would all of a sudden change their t
Yeah, the trade center is it's own reward, and is worth the hits you take being good overall, but they come kind of late in the game, so by the time you build them, you're probably already on your way to victory. I would like to see them come somewhat earlier, even if it means toning them down a bit. But in a long map they tip the scales quite a bit in your favor, especially when going for the tech victory.
$22? small price to pay for national healthcare :)
I think the best way to balance the BattleHammer would be to beef up the BattleCruiser and the Frigate. Battlehammers don't seem so overpowered once Dreadnaughts become available. The Battlecruisers definately need help.
I seem to be missing the graphics for the Ranger ships. I build some and they worked fine my last game. Since the patch, I build a ranger - but I just get a "ghost ship" the graphics are missing both in the build queue and the galaxy map. By the point I had ranger tech I was in the good skin if that makes any difference. I wouldn;t care so much, but it's impossible for me to select the "ghost rangers" I have to pick them up with the find button. Damage graphic dows display on them, but nothing
Also - not sure if this is by design, but if you capture an enemy planet that is building a ship you don't have the tech for, you can continue building as many of that ship as you like as long as you don't change the build orders. I had this happen a few times last night - the Dregnin were building Dreadnaughts and I hadn't even researched Battleships. Fortunatley they were picking fights with every one, so I snuck in and took a world or two. I certainly didn't mind access to the Dreads, but th
Second that motion on QS going bankrupt. Their treatment of MOO3 was crap, their treatment of the fans is crap, the game was delayed for so long, and the patch still isn't out yet. If they do get MOM2, I wouldn't buy it if it were $3 on eBay. Mad props to Stardock - when they make a patch (which they do frequently) - they let us decide if we want to try it before its fully "tested". MOO3's patch is still waiting to go through QS's QA department - Now there's an organinazition that isn
Hey that Age of Mythology wasn't a bad game either! :D
"Make election victory/defeat depend on what your AVERAGE support rating was over the previous 2 years, to eliminate one month Propoganda blitz/Tax rate manipulation cheese." Dude, how else to you think 2 George Bushes have gotten themselves "elected". Seems perfectly realistic to me. :) Read My Lips: No New Patches!
That's a good question - I haven't found a good answer yet. I find on the bigger planets anything that boosts economy/morale is worth it's upkeep. On my smaller worlds sometimes I skimp especially on shipyard type stuff, sometimes on research buildings, but I usually put news networks everywhere. they're pretty cheap to build, and provide a lot of benefits for only 2 upkeep. Having a good trade economy will allow you to support more buildings, playing in hostile galaxy where frieghter die alot,
Yeah - it's always a gas when I'm moving my fleets in for the kill when the Imperial Death March comes on! :)
