This is an instructive thread because it shows the predictable degeneration of the hard core part of the community. I'm an avid WoW player and it's the same thing there. Blizzard will work tirelessly to satisfy users but the hardest of the hard core are never satisfied and always end up taking for granted the work others are doing on their behalf. And Galciv isn't like WoW. It has no monthly subscription. People paid 40 bucks and got a fantastic game with unrivaled support. But

Wow. This takes the cake of the pettiest complaint I've ever read on line and I've seen some dooseys. The survey takes like 2 minutes to do and you get 5 bucks off almost anything but they limit it to this month. Gee, I wonder why. Could it possibly be that if they made it unlimited they'd have to deal with the coupon becoming a permanent $5 off if people ever started handing it around? Come on. I can't think of any place that gives non expiring coupons.

Yea. I have emailed Steve Jobs and Bill Gates asking for help before and both ignored me. The bastards. By contrast, I've seen the CEO of Stardock personally trying to help you in this very article and all you've been is rude and obnoxious in return. It sounds to me that you didn't like the uninstall of MyColors that you got. Frogboy suggested you redownload your MyColors theme and then you berated him for not telling you how. Did you even try to go to Stardock's home page, cli

Exactly .....which brings back the whole point of the 'threatening to leave if she did not get her way' The way it looked to me is that she had already made her decision to go... Emily's post as crude but to the point. Deviantart actually does have porn on it. I pretty much had stopped participating in the forums because of the cliqueishness and snobbery of people like ClWoods. I think it'll take a few more people leaving still before

After playing through the campaign I would have to say that my views are slightly less favourable to DA than before - while DA is an excellent expansion it's by no means the "best expansion ever" like people are saying in this thread. I could think of many things in the campaign that could have been improved, which other games have. Things like cutscenes, scripted/triggered events during missions and an involving storyline with actual characters would have gon

The point isn't whether life is free or not. The point is that there is no value in buying WindowBlinds if I have to pay for skins for it. And note that I am not arguing whether we should pay for skins. I am just pissed off at the holier then thou attitude of the OP and acting as if they are doing us a favor with this site! People are drawing up all sorts of half-assed analogies... I am just going to address two brought up in the original article: 1. HL and 2. RingTone

Another problem with the current implementation of UAC is that they come up regularly enough that users start to ignore the prompt and automatically click "continue". That sort of thing completely undoes the theoretical benefit of UAC. Ideally, Microsoft will update UAC to be more intelligent like remember programs that have been given permission and timed elevated states. But if MS doesn't do it, then somebody else should fix it, preferably a company people trust like Stardock

Ahhh hello???? What are you guys smoking at Stardock with your scenario one and two crap???? IF you are goign to do that sort of BS then please follow through. I totally agree w/ most of what you have said in scenario one but you did not go to its conclusion. So after stardock starts charging all sorts of money for .dream files, dreammaker pro, dreamscene extra special deluxe pro (now with more colors...), etc. less and less people will come by to the site and interest

I was looking over on Gamerankings and found dark avatar. But noticed that the user review average was only 7.3. So I clicked on the list of votes: http://www.gamerankings.com/itemrankings/showvotes.asp?itemid=934081 2 people gave it a 1 and another gave it a 3. That's vandalism. Even someone who doesn't like GalCiv can be honest enough to admit it's not a 1. And it takes 1 person to vote a 10 just to get that average up to 5. People look at these ratings. I k

Why would anyone want a background that uses CPU cycles?, Like a screen saver a background is suppose to use 0% CPU. It does have a nifty factor (which is why I use WindowBlinds and IconPackager, but neither of them use an real CPU, when idle. As one who pays for Electric and owns Vista Ultimate (for application compatibility testing only), this extension just made no sense. Well then don't use it. I don't happen to spaz out if something on my

Iceman - you got ragged on by people because you came across as one of those smug Star Trek conventioneers who hassles the writers up on stage. 'Remember in episode 36, in scene 15, Captain Kirk's shirt is ripped. But in scene 16, it's suddenly not ripped! Heh. Heh. I hope someone lost their job over that!'

After a long absence from Galactic Civilizations II, I saw that the expansion pack was out. I started playing last night at around 6pm. I just finished and it's 9am here. IT IS AWESOME! Thank you Stardock for making the mother of all expansions!

WOW! The game improvements are huge. Quick feedback after 3 hours of playing: THE GREAT: --->The beginning game is so much better like Phubar mentioned. You actually have to think about your starting strategy instead of cranking out colony ships. What a terrific and thougthful solution to have environments. You know, MOO had environments but they didn't work the same. This is a welcome addition that adds a new dimension. --->The spies. This part really changes the

Yea. The Stardock guys have been promoting it a bit but the general consensus is that it's a buggy disaster right now. If you can wait for the bug fixes and for modders to put something together and multiplayer is your thing then it's worth looking at.

I would be happy if SE fan boys would quit confusing unrestrained feature creep with "depth". 'Look at all the features that the computer players can't use and make the game seem very very complicated? it must have a lot of depth!!!' se is a very complicated board game that targets the hardest of the hard core who ever wanted to play an obscenely complex board game against each other. if you got 100 random strategy gamers together to play seV single player i would challenge any

I've been playing the demo a lot this afternoon. How does it compare with GalCiv II? #1 It's a lot lot lot lot more complicated. Its user interface doesn't help with that complexity which gives it a big learning curve. #2 The graphics are about equal to mid 1990s. If graphics matter, you won't like this game. #3 It has a lot of play options. The multplayer in SE IV was very good if you were into very long drawn out games. I bet SE V will be as good. The single pla

I'm having a great time with it. The AI is smarter and the pacing just seems better. Moosetek, I saw that you're having a problem with the mini map or something but that's a pretty harsh thing to say that it's a "poor beta" just because you are having a problem. The bug report area doesn't exactly seem full of bug reports.

It is a good thing most people aren't like Stormbringer or else Stardock wouldn't likely be able to put out these free updates. If most people started equating new updates to a game to mean that the game was buggy or made by developers who aren't smart, then you can be sure there wouldn't be updates. I think the folks at Stardock can point to all the awards the game has won and the relatively few problems people are reporting and say that the game works pretty well. Plus, I can

However I should make a point that was relayed to me this morning from some in house IT people with regards to this game. They all seemed to agree that the game's issues sound more like inexperienced developers/programmers than hardware configs. That said I really couldn't argue since they pointed out that every other game that I have purchased and played has run without i

wait wait wait. He's complaining that he has to type in a serial # while on the Internet on an Internet based forum? My god, what I wouldn't do to have all my games work like GalCiv. My daughter wants to play Sims 2 but I can't find disk 1. The game's installed on my computer but I don't have the DONGLE um I mean CD.
