If they were not the core issue, then why was it the subject of the presentation by Powell to the UN Security Council as the difinitive reason for supporting our invasion of Iraq? Getting rid of Saddam was good, I won't argue that as he definitely needed to go. However the WMD were the big selling item the administration used to persuade us to go along with the war. We can not go around wielding a big club to every nation that we suspect may not like us, or may consider ever being agg

The avoiding help desk goal is not one I would vocalize in an interview or even hint at. The desire to steer away from that is simply because that's what I've been doing for going on 8 years now and I'm feeling burnt out. It would not be good to go into a new job pre-stressed and frazzled. This is a decision I made to stay sane. Sadly given my current skillset, I may have to at least start in help desk and work my way up. And as far as r
The more I look at openings and requirements, the more I realize that I'm going to need to find a small firm to get in with and work my way up from there. I need to pick something more specific than general IT to make myself stand out. I'm considering Linux and MySQL certifications at some point in the next year, and am considering focusing in on PHP as my skill of choice. Now I just need to start myself on a project to learn all of this.
I was afraid of the generalist thing... It makes me feel like I largely wasted the past 4 years here as I didn't get anything real out of it aside from the piece of paper (which I understand is pretty valuble in and of itself). The program I went through was designed based on what companies were looking for at the height of the tech boom, so now that everything went bust, those of us who graduated before they started to rework everything are in a tight spot. I'm not necessarily looking
Ok, here's the deal, I've recently graduated from Penn State University with a B.S in Information Sciences & Technology with a minor in IT Telecommunications. I've worked for about 8 years total doing tech support work of varying difficulty (from simple troubleshooting to overseeing two computer labs to running my department's servers and doing most minor network work) through High School and College. I can easily work with Windows, MacOS and just about any variety of Linux (some of the pure
Keep in mind that the PC that died was the evolution of the first PC I ever built. Over time I had replaced with top of the line parts. Problems I encountered with it were mostly legacy issues from a few really old bits of hardware that were left in it from the early days. I learned many many lessions with that machine that I'll always keep in mind, but I felt it was time to finally give the other method a shot, see how much grief a built machine gives me. Gotta have some sort of comparison
This is inspired by a LiveJournal post one of my friends made last night and one of the responses someone made to it. Here at Penn State, we have a Distinguished Speaker series where we get people ranging from Ben Stein, to Danny Glover, to F. W. De Klerk. Last night it was Maya Angelou, and while I stayed in to avoid the bad weather we've been having, one of my friends managed to make it out and came back positively glowing. Here's a few select lines from her entry: She
I'm also unable to post new forum threads directly into the forum
Internet Explorer - Logged off and back on, still can't post and the layout's still broken. The default doesn't work period, but the blue scheme works about half the time. Right now I'm typing in a comment box that is about 3-4 words wide. Mozilla - Logged out and back in... Layouts are working fine, but posting still doesn't work.
Addl note... The default display scheme also seems to be whacked out. I grabbed a screencap and posted it here: http://www.evilsysadmin.net/images/desktop.gif
I click submit and it simply takes me back to my blog home and doesnt post the new article. No errors, nothing to indicate I did anything wrong, it just eats the post.
Glad I'm not the only one, almost lost a really good article too.
Hilarious stuff... my girlfriend would kick my ass though if I even jokingly said any of these things :)
Inferior? I guess it depends on your needs and points of comparison. For the average desktop user, Linux is overkill and doesn't have the tools they need. For the IT professional or server administrator, or hobbyist developer, Linux is the perfect choice. It's better than MS in many areas (and worse in others) GCC is actually considered to be one of the best compilers hands-down. Please frame your comments a bit better. Everything has it's use, and both Linux and Windows have their "best"
Yeah, the problem is that the Linux community comes across more like Nick Burns (from the SNL Computer Guy sketch), with an air of superiority. I'm a fan of Linux myself, and I can't deal with 99% of the Linux users I've had to deal with. Linux is like the Academic Elite of the computing world, and its users act accordingly. People in elite groups like to snub their noses at the lowly unenlightened masses. Linux will have this negative aura around it until a few large companies make it their
I generally dislike Bush, most of his policies irritate me on some level or another, but his space initiative is the one thing he's done that I completely 100% agree with. When you're talking about doing things like this, it's not for some party plan or whatever, this is something that will directly benefit ALL of humanity. Space is the next step in our understanding of existence, it's going to eventually become essential to our continued survival as
My issue was that I wanted a machine at home that I didn't have to muck with all the time. When I get home at the end of the day, I want to load up a game, flip through the day's email, and chat with friends on AIM. I have my linux box behind me that I do serious work on at home, that's a custom rig, and I have my slew of pieced together machines here at work acting as web and file servers. I have not turned my back on the geek way, I'm just tired of coming home after a long day at work only
I just finished my third or fourth run through Warcraft III (Reign of Chaos and The Frozen Throne), and I've been keeping an eye on the upcoming release of World of Warcraft. What Blizzard has done is created a far-reaching story, one with twists, turns and more individual plot threads than you can count. The series started with a seemingly simple story of evil (orc) aggression against the forces of good (humans, elves, dwarves and their gnome friends) in a struggle for the world itself, and h
It's probably because you're eating far less than your body is used to. While it may satisfy the calorie requirements and the daily values stuff doesn't mean it's enough for your body. You can technically satisfy your daily values of everything by taking a multivitamin and eating a few pieces of pizza, but that's not enough actual food to keep you going through an entire day. You probably have to work your way down to eating that little in a day. Jumping straight from 3 square meals
*reads article* You basically describe most guy's dream girl. Where can I find one like you in my area? Oh I added you to my msn list... I'm [email protected]
The major theme of my few articles on here to date has been that of change. Emotional change, professional change, geographic change etc... I've graduated from college, getting ready to move into the working world and move to a place I've never been before, where I don't know anyone and I'm hours away from the nearest friend or relative. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't terrified, that the mere thought of changing this much didn't make me want to climb back under the covers every morning and j
(sorry if I'm bothering you by following your current blog thread, but I'm genuinely intrigued by your articles) The statement "love will find you when you're not looking" isn't exactly meant how you're taking it. It's not meant to say that when you don't need love, when you don't need someone else, that that is the point they'll appear. What the comment generally is aimed for is that right now, you're trying very hard at this, possibly too hard and that is causing you more grief than
Aren't you scared, though??? Me? I'm completely and absolutely terrified! You're never going to feel completely safe, never going to get rid of that nagging fear, that knot in your stomach when you go up to a guy to talk to him... it never goes away. What
I have to agree with Brad here, priorities are all screwed up now when it comes to life expectations and goals. I see too many of my peers who say they want to be lawyers/doctors/executives, marry a guy who is equally ambitious in life... AND raise a family. Raising a kid is a full-time job all by itself, and doesn't need to compete with a full-time outside world job, trying to juggle the two results in neither being done properly. It seems there is a stigma now associated with being
After reading this and your previous post on the topic, I felt I might toss in my male perspective on the matter. And to comiserate (sp?) as I go through much the same torment as you do. I've also dealt with a girl who has some of the same emotional hurdles to overcome that you do. I've also read your "Why I Rule" articles (not saying anything against them, just how I can best sum them up). First off, I feel the same way about a vast amount of what you said in this post. I have deve
