I use Cacheman, from Outer Technologies. It's free. It has quite a lot of options for freeing up memory, and on top of that, you can also tweak cache settings and whatnot. It's very effective. Runs on 95 through XP.

Well, I TRY this. Sometimes it works, sometimes I get the same problem. This doesn't matter what version of Windows you have as long as you haven't deleted this file. Do a search for *.scf files. Look for one that says show desktop or something. Link that into ObjectDock. Like I said, sometimes this works, sometimes you have to click twice, and sometimes it doesn't work at all. Maybe this is off topic, but I've always wondered what TrayServer does. It loads at startup and I have no reason to kill it, but what's it do?
I use Mozilla Firebird mostly becuase it's very fast and has sooo many more features than IE and less security holes, but you have to use IE on some sites because Big Brother Microsoft makes a lot of websites only work with IE.
Sadly, I still like to play Midtown Madness 1 and 2. Heh heh heh...Pity me.

So many people either have DSL or cable that this isn't much of an issue but for Dial-Up users, these slow-downs are a real pain in the neck. I manage my home computers and the ones at my local library, and with all the worms and viruses today, it is far too time consuming. Perhaps we should refer to the idiots who write these as "cyber-terrorists." >
