Introduction To supplement the "Gal Civ 3 Strategy Guide: How to Win an Alliance Victory on Godlike", this variation applies a number of house rules, with the same goal to achieve an Alliance Victory. Your results may depend on your skill level; in particular, checking for diplomatic interactions and applying them whenever possible is important. It is not recommended
Good point joeball. Looking back the original reason I had that design was to reveal as much possible immediately so starting ships in the first few turns can pick the best available worlds while easily avoiding Pirates (which I tend to enjoy at abundant) given the colony/construction designs have no sensors to minimise cost. With the custom race here it looks like I can fit 8 sensors (sensor range of 19 instead of 27) with 3 hyperdrive-plus modules (movement speed of 10 rath
Hey All: I've drafted a Strategy Guide and would appreciate feedback from anyone interested before publishing as a Steam Guide. Introduction The purpose of this strategy guide is to show how using all the mechanics available in-game leads to easy and very early Alliance Victories on Godlike. Fast Alliance victories are possible without using a number of elements of this strategy, as a secondary
(and the person running the war didn’t realize how much the AI had improved since 1.5 but that’s a different issue).
Yay! I look forward to more detail on the AI improvements! Hopefully it includes most or all of the issues mentioned here: <a title="Reddit AMA for Brad Wardell" href="https://www.reddit.com/r/4Xgaming/comments/43314x/ama_round_2_brad_wardell_of_
A follow-up on the one world Godlike challenge. Around Turn 138 the AI literally "gave" me 5 free colonies, including 2 precursor worlds ... they colonised worlds within my influence and so flipped within a couple of turns. All the AI have considered me weak, ripe for conquest and also have negative diplomatic modifiers because they see me going for an Ascension Victory. So to be sure everyone stays in an Alliance I built a couple of Diplomatic buildings. No AI has
Great thread! Quite a few Space 4X games have been too easy to exploit diplomatically. However, I’ve never been able to exploit an AI so easily and so significantly as Gal Civ 3. I know Brad has said he enjoys the diplomatic game so hopefully this gets some much needed attention.
I've given the one world Godlike challenge above a shot this weekend i.e. no colonisation permitted and for fun also no invasions (until later anyway). I'm currently on Turn 106. As expected an Alliance Victory remained trivial. The only hiccup was the Snathi Revenge, since I couldn't produce very much, they saw me as weak earlier than expected, and also I was very exploration focused so had no military, so that took an unusually long 79 turns. A
Agree iangoth. Since the AI doesn't target a research victory with any true focus there is plenty of time, it's easy to take everything from the AI using trading, with a few artifacts along the way, it should be possible to win a research victory. I suspect a conquest/influence victory might be possible once you have the Beyond Mortality technologies and go on the rampage.
I don't care about all the other resources at all, in fact the only reason I take them within my empire borders is so I can trade them away for more money so I can run heavy deficits while at war.
I used to do the same. However, prototype weapons ships are very powerful and relatively low cost, hence very useful in the early game. Thulium tiny/small survey ships also allow improved exploration.
Oh now that's a good idea ... a single world Godlike challenge ... without using this exploit!
I find that remarkable and cannot come up with a similar example of customer awareness from other games.
It's good to see the odd post from the developers. But such interaction is not unusual at all ... these days at least. Some developers have private forums for Development/VIP teams e.g. Amplitude, Matrix. Whether philosophically you agree with a private approach to this or not, it doesn
The diplomatic rush fine art is really nothing more than using all of the diplomatic modifiers made available as a priority. Let's hope this is considered in the expansion which is coming. It's important though any consideration on this is confined to diplomacy, it just shouldn't be possible to have Huge Hulls on Turn 51 due to Artifacts etc, etc.
Macsen thanks for putting the Terran Resurgence on the Steam Workshop, I'll continue to watch the series until the end. Out of interest I played a game with them this evening (Huge, abundant, 9 opponents), the only change I made was to an ability (to Intuitive). The end result was a Turn 51 Alliance Victory while being dead last on the power charts. Apart from what I've posted before, this time I focused on diplomacy research immediately and embassies (which I normal
Well, nobody seems to beat the Godlike with tech set to very slow. Is this because the great players only play insane and don't want to take 7 months or does it actually favour the AI?
Just tried that on my favourite settings (Huge map, abundant, 9 opponents), also added very slow pacing, no house rules, won in 38 turns. Save game below, just enable Diplomatic Victory when you load it up. <a href="https
It is my understanding that several folk at Stardock regularly troll the forums. They have stated this several times. There have been replies from various members of the crew on various threads. They do not make a habit of acknowledging every thread or posting a bugfix
Nobody is asking for an effective pseudointelligence, just an acknowledgement of legitimate comments and a comment that these things are on the roadmap. On what basis you assume they are working on it? I'm not demanding, I'm hoping the game will go from good to great.
So how do we get the developers to pay any attention at all to this thread? Is the only way around here to be loud and obnoxious and then you'll get a response? Calm and considered is ignored, it seems.
Larsenex, I’m sure you are joking around, but just to be clear nobody expects or is asking for a human level AI. I studied AI many moons ago and have had opportunities to apply it in the real world to problems much more complex than a 4X game, so I'm very well aware of what is and is not possible. <span style="f
One of the Steam achievements for Endless Space was to win on maximum difficulty with a huge number of negative traits, it was pretty fun, at least for a little while. Sadly the Gal Civ 3 Steam Achievements are extraordinarily bland so there is nothing similar. I'll certainly be watching until the end either way and might even give it a try.
Good point Naselus. Macsen that looks to be a really fun series to watch, but wow what a good start! You might need to reload a few times to get a really bad start!
I’ve given Larsenex’s map settings a try (Insane and everything rare except abundant stars, Godlike of course) and had a Research Victory on Turn 187, refer attached save game and in short none of the AI are near a Victory condition. This follows the save games posted in other threads for a Turn 53 Alliance Victory on Huge and Turn 20 Alliance Victory on Tiny. <a href="https://www.dropbox.com/s/1d0zgb2o4fsyold/Insane%20Rare%20Turn%20187%20Research%20Victory.GC3
Alright agree on the additional house rules. I'll end up just focusing on Malevolent due to the benefits of the production bonuses and miss a few construction ships. Interestingly on the tiny map you seem to get more research points from the starting technology trait so I got Universal Translators on Turn 1. Then on Turn 2 I discovered some minor races and traded those techs for all their cash and more. So unusually I used the construction ships from Pragmatic fo
actually, now I'm curious - has anyone beat a godlike AI on a tiny map?
