You don't need a CD key to download impulse. I know this for a fact, because I downloaded impulse before I downloaded Sins. https://www.stardock.com/downloads/ Click on the button that says impulse, it'll bring the DL up.

Just ban marzas.Whatch most TEC people not be happy. I've never run into this, to be honest. Sounds like people who are either good, and sick of losing to less skilled players because of op illums, or sorta bad, and can't cope with Advent.

Except Chuck Norris. Ideal starter cap: Kol Frame: Mothership Colonize Mothership Shield Restore MB Finest Hour. FH regens hull, AM, and (I think) actually decreases the cooldown for the other abilities. Thus, more frenquent MBs/shield restore. Which really makes the thing hard to kill. Really? Well, that's nifty. But it'd still be nice to see the SBs be able to handle Z axis movement. Or is there something everybody's missing in that regard as well?

Sorry, I was slightly unclear with what I meant. I was saying it wasn't designed to be a completely Z - axis friendly game, because there's no real way to maneuver ships along it. You can't (easily, anyhow) order your ships to move higher or lower on the Z axis. I've read the thread you mentioned, and from what I can tell, it takes a lot of fiddling to get ships to go up over a SB like this. I've seen it happen before once with my ships, but it's not common place. Also, there'
aside from the glaring, unnecessary profanity which may be intended to be funny, I have a question: what they hell does it do? I guess it's a slightly older mod that was released in another thread, where you documented your changes. so, care to include a link to that old thread? sure, I could search, but rather than every person reading this having to search, a direct link in the op is much smarter.
This isn't a new

The problem is, Sins obviously wasn't designed to allow movement in the Z axis. Either SBs and static defenses need to be redesigned to take the Z axis into account, or the ability of ships to move into the Z axis and avoid defenses needs to be removed.

Under your start menu, Programs > Stardock Games > Sins of A Solar Empire > Sins Launcher. Then click on the button for serial number. That should be your CD key. (At least, that's what I used.)

There is actually a use for targeting uplink, if you're spamming Lrms. I beleive you only need to have it at level one to outrange a Argonevs basic weaponry (not 100% on other SBs). It won't be insanely usefull, but can save losses when rushing a freshly built sb, or allow your Lrms to contribute to taking out repairbays/the SB itself when you have bombers going for a more upgraded SB.

I know how it is losing quick. In one of my first ten games, I got lined up against this guy playing vas. I went for an eco/colony start, and before I knew it, I had like 4 illums and he had a fleet + an orky on my HW. Nothing quite says "owned" like getting your HW Starbased. Surviving rushes is really a matter of knowing when it's coming. Scouts help for this, but the big tell is position. If you're only a few jumps from his HW, he's probably rushing. Especially if he's a vas.If he'

Buying through impulse doesn't give you a box. ;) Also, if you open the launcher on regular sins, (there should be something called sins launcher as well as the usual shortcut link) and click on serial code, that's the CD key.

Was everybody running the same version? If you have two people on Vanilla and one guy running entrenchment, or two people with the latest patch and one guy without it, that could be the problem. Latest Vanilla patch is 1.17, latest Entrenchment Patch is 1.03.

I think you're missing something. I bought both Vanillia Sins and Entrenchment off impulse using my Visa debit card. I suppose it might be a problem with your particular debit card, i.e., it doesn't accept that particular type of card. You've checked to be sure you're putting in the number and the pin number correctly, right?

Really? Usually when I play, there are games up where just about anybody can get in. Are you playing during the US/North American prime time? Like, 6 PM to 1 AM Eastern Time? As for rushing, well... trying to get the first attack in has always been good strategy, although not without its risks. But you can't expect everybody to just sit back building up whil they wait for you.

For the TEC? Marza is plain and simple the nastiest thing out there. Kols will take insane pounding, but missile barrage is a fleet eater, especially against fleets of long range frigates. I usually start with a Marza in MP games, just because I want it to start getting experience sooner. Otherwise, I'd go with the Akkan for colonize. Ion bolt isn't bad, and Armistice is nice, but mostly it's a colony boat. For Advent.. The Progenitor. It's not great by itself, but it s

Light frigates are good for helping your cap clear out planets. After that, you want to research long range frigates as soon as possible. They'll stand up well, and deal out way more damage than light frigates. Defense platforms aren't really usefull until you get to the point where your fleet can't get to planets fast enough to mount a defense. Even then, no amount of defense will stop a full out assult. Usually, you probably build enough to kill the AI's seige frigate

10 Replies 3,838 Views

Another possible problem is fleet composition. What types of ships do you have in your fleet? If you have light frigates and the AI has long range frigates or heavy cruisers, you'll get slaughtered. It could be you're using inferior ships, or that you simply don't have enough ships for the fight. Especially if you're playing as TEC aginst an Advent, you'll want at least ship number parity. Given that Advent ships, especially the illuminator, are stronger than TEC ships, an advantage never hur

In Multiplayer, repair bays are the primary defensive structure. Usually, repair bays are built first, as they can support a fleet as well as static defense. If a world needs to be held against serious attack, a SB is added, and hanger bays are sometimes added in later. Hangers can added a nice boost. In addition to fighters to keep bombers off your SB, TEC get flack to kill bombers, Advent get shield bestowal, which gives everything extra shields and (I think) helps SBs sheilds regen faster.

If you want to try the game without buying it, there is a demo available on the website. Under the downloads section, I beleive. You only get the try out the TEC, and the games all have time limits, but it's a good way to get a feel for the game.

I'm getting the "Disconnected from Ironclad Online" message as well. I'm running a basic windows firewall, and it shows Sins as having an exception. I have the newest version of the original Sins (not Entrenchment) running on XP pro edition. I saw on the Stardock forums that certain ports - 6000 and 7000 - needed to be open, and tried opening them under Firewall -> Exceptions -> Add port. No luck. Is there something else I need to fix? If not, is it possible there
