It does really depend on what you're up against. I would recommend building more fighters than bombers as they are better against more types of ships. Transitive had it pegged
its basically impossible to use bombers at all unless you've already got total air superiority in the grav well, which is the real reason we like fighters so much. you add the bombers in only once you're sure they won't just get killed on the way in.
So here's some tips on using bombers ef

Well here's what I like about it. Enter an enemy grav well and engage their fleet, when they retreat to the safety of their starbase start building your Orkulus. Then the enemy fleet, weakened, comes to destroy it and while they focus all their efforts on destroying it, you destroy their fleet with yours. It's worth losing a weak SB just to annihilate the enemy fleet, leaving their starbase relatively undefended, at which point you can just build another Orkulus to remove it.
Argonevs are BEASTS when fully upgraded, it takes FOREVER to bring them down. You get one of these up with full defense upgrades and it will be there for awhile. Throw some squadron hangars to fight off anti-structure ships and a repair platform or two with it, and you've got yourself one of the most solid defenses in the game. I see lots of people use this kind of defense, So I guess you just aren't playing with the right people. I really rarely play a game where someone isn't TEC.</
Last word of advice. Never build colonizinf frigates they are a waste of money. They are just too slow at colonizing and you need that time is vital in the beginning of any game. Now go get em!
I disagree, colonizing frigates are useful in many cases (such as not building a colonizing capital ship {Akkan, Progenitor, Jarassul} to begin with.) You will also need them to capture neutral extractors (so long as you aren't playing with Vasari whose scouts can do this task) o
At first I thought adjudicators were crap, escpecially when comapred to ogrovs. But a Played a 4v4 game the other day on Areolian sector in which our opponents had built 6 or 7 starbases at their star. One of my allies went in with 20+ adjudicators and destroyed most of them while the rest of us battel the opposing fleet at a different star. These weren't weak sbs either. My ally managed to fight off a fleet being produced by the TEC starbases AND destroyed 5 starbases before our opponents su
My wins/losses dont add up to 1/2 my played games, and i've never, I repeat NEVER, quit prematurely, or quiti when i should surrender. I have over 100 wins and about 38 losses. People sometimes accuse me of being a quitter for that reason, but they don't understand a lot of things. 1. Saving and quitting to finish later is the same as a quit 2. A lot of games minidump, especially back in 1.02-1.05 3. People would drop from huge games. 5v5, there seems
Oh and I should mention this common New player mistake: No civilian infrastucture. Any number that you come across on you HUI that is red means that it is detrimental or a negative number. If you hold your mouse over your credits in the top right corner you can get a list of where your income is coming from. If any of the numbers here are RED that means it is subtracting that number from your total income. It is a bad thing if any of your planets on this list have a red number
I have two pieces of advice: 1) Information is your greatest weapon. Knowing what your opponent is up to allows you to adapt to any strategy thrown at you, so use scouts accordingly. Set some to auto scout and keep a few handy to jump ahead of your fleet so you aren't walking into a trap, or do a sweep through enemyy territiry to find out what you're up against. 2) Be conscious and aware of the basic unit triangle that is as follows. Light frigate
Well I think what new players need to be educated on is when to quit and when to surrender. I played a 2v2v2 the otherday on a Medium large. 3 players quit, one disconnected, and then I was left having to bulldoze through 3 Ai to get to the last remaining opponent on the other side of the map! I ended up just sending my fleet trhough and capturing a roid on the otherside to launch attacks from, but I pissed off all the Ais in the process. Personally I'd rather players surrender than q
30 Flak Frigates
You may want to note that flak frigates tend to be more effective against fighters. Secondly a proper ratio of flaks to carriers would be at least 2+ flaks for every 1 carrier (it may seem like a lot, but the cost is still less than one carrier). I have no doubt that around 90 bombers went through your caps pretty quick, but you make it seem like you did little to stop them. I agree with Darvin in that even if you caps did go down, your o
Funny how a simple physics question can spark three pages worth of debate and exchange of ideas. Silly science nuts. Here's my two cents: It's my understanding that time is unique to the universe itself, the fourth dimension (width, heighth, depth and time). It is theorized that when the universe began there were actually many more dimensions that collapsed early in its life (something like fourteen i think). Here's the kicker, the physics we unde
Maybe I'm sheltered, but the release of Entrenchment has been the best strategy game expansion release I've ever encountered. And for that I want to thank you. So many companies release expansions for their games that cost THE SAME OR MORE THAN THE GAME ITSELF! I hate that, so thank you for making it $10. A price comparable to what you get: some extras features, new ships, better gameplay etc. Also thank you for making it so easy to acquire (you can just downloa
I seem to recall that when the one ships from the Vasari Armada escaped to the edge of their colonized space from battle with the unknown foe, the crews had gone completely insane. Here's the quote from the "Lore" Section of this website. "The inhabitants of a perimeter planet were surprised when a single warship of the Dark Fleet appeared out of Phase Space bearing signs of heavy damage. Their curiosity and confusion quickly gav
That worked! Thanks Astax.
If carriers were truly OP, wouldn't most everyone agree they were? I think the fact that this subject is so contested here makes the issue more a matter of opinion than fact. As far as the forums are concerned, I've read countless posts on strategy by seasoned pros to better my game, and this is just another one of those. So my game is better and now I know what to do against a carrier spammer. I did the same thing with LRF spamming and scout rushes. For accessabililty
Same here. No Mods. Minidump before opening vids.
I'm going to side with How on this one, there are plenty of ways to beat carrier spam, you've jsut got to learn them and the biggest thing is KNOW WHAT YOUR OPPONENT IS DOING!. The whole point of strategy is learning to adapt to whats being thrown at you. Yes options are limited, but isn't that the same with any spam counter? "Gee I realy don't want to build carriers to counter my opponents LRF spam, id much rather build LF's". I mean it's not like you have to go Kol or Space egg or Adv Carri
That's my two cents. So, if I got this right, your story is: "I beat my opponent's balanced fleet by building nothing but carriers as a last ditch effort." Yes, I'm a bad person.
If you read carefully, I beat my opponent because of his horribly poor micro management skills, and stated that he had a good chance with what he was working with. And 35 flaks, 8 lrfs and 6 carriers is hardly a balanced fleet. <
I played a 3v3 game the other day as Vasari. I was cornered by two opponents and nearly killed, but my ally fed me so I could spam carriers. I built 25 before counter attacking. One of the opponents had left the area and the other had massed flak frigates (TEC), he had about 35-40. He had also built a couple of lrms and carriers, but it was really the flak frigates that were toublesome. Now I chose not to do the smartest thing and switch over to bombers to take them out, but i did learn a lot
In my opinion this Goldlist is a far better idea than the blacklist. I mean, at least the reviews are positive in nature. And just because you're not on the list doesn't mean people won't play with you, just means you haven't proved yourself review worthy. So thanks How, this thread is quite redeeming. Although I must say, and I mean this sincerely, congratulations on stirring up such controversy and endless discussion. I personally am an opponent of the blacklist, but from an outsiders point
The Blacklist is a stupid idea anyway, what's to say anyone can't threaten to put someone on it. With all the smurfs out there, how do you know if you're playing with one of the Blacklist "moderators" or their friends or not. So potentially anyone can say "do this or you're going on the blacklist". So why have it? The Sins Community is small, why ostracize people when you can just prove you're better than them by challenging them to a game? If you don't like someone, tell your friends and the
That sounds a lot like the way Warcraft III works, and it worked pretty well for them. Honestly though if ICO wants a quick fix, a disconnect should = a loss. I don't think they've addressed because it really doesn't matter that much, a disconnect by an opponent still = a win for you, right? Also, the earlier versions of the game were a bit buggy and disconnects, crashes and minidumps happened quite often, I'm sure ICO didn't want the backlash of angry players whose records were awful from no
Perhaps the ram would work better coupled with something else, like malice. It would take some serious micro managing, but it could be quite devastating if it worked. Its crazy, but a fleet with a mothership, battleship with brilliance, a bunch of guardians, a few regular frigates to draw fire and a bunch of scouts with ram could possibly fight off say, a fleet of spammed lrms of a similar size. It'd be hard as hell to pull off tho.
Vasari also have an advanced phase detection, allowing you to track fleet movements anywhere in the system, very nice if you want to see what you're up against. If you want to boil it down to bare basics this is what I've observed - Vasari - Firepower: With their advanced weaponry the Vasari dominate the other races when it comes to overall firepower. Phase missles can bypass shields leaving their hulls in poor condition once the wave cannon
I love homeworld and am quite fond of Sins, but what I've found one game lacks the other excels in, at least in terms of what I want in a space RTS. I agree the combat environment in Homeworld kicks sins, especially with the movement along the height y-axis and radio chatter that sins lacks, but what I like about sins over Homeworld is the depth of research, economy and richness of space (i.e. planets, stars etc.) that I always yearned for while playing it. My only hope is that one day someon
