Lol, when I said all those different weapons I wasn;t 'serious' in that way. I just named random 'futuristic' style weapons without thinking about just how realistic they are (I could disscuss the reasons why plasma is actually very unlikely to ever happen, but that's a different disscussion). My point was simply that in the future, I'd expect something more effective than what we have today :P
not necessarily 52500. I didn't actually call YOU a moron. I meant that you (not actual you BTW) would have to be rather unintelligent to drop a giant rock onto a planet that is far to valuable a resource to destroy. To Koiju- the power armor used by cap troopers is designed to take direct 57mm hits. I think shrapnel isn't going to be too much of a problem (except for the chutes, but the trick is so that they slow
Funny that you mention the armor/weight relationship since thrust/mass ratio determines a ship's top speed. Lotsa games have modifiers for that, especially mech games. Hope the engine can be modified to deal with that.
The thrust/mass ratio only affects the top speed of space ships in games, in the real world space ships don't have a top speed (except the speed of light). It's the thrust/air resistance ratio that actual
True, they would be hard to hit directly, but as I understand it, most AAA is designed to be AoE, in order to give them a decent chance of causing some damage. Even a small amount of shrapnel will spell doom for a parachute, or your heat resistant plating. I doubt a full scale invasion would go unnoticed, even when the pods are quite small, one would only need to blast away at the obvious cloud of invading drop pods (and their ejected shells) and your bound to score a decent number of
Not just cap ships, most of the cruiser class probably shouldn't be dog fighting either, especially the mini-carriers and the anti-structure cruisers (ogrov and solonus). The long range frigates also shouldn't be dog fighting (their advanatge is range and firepower, they don't want to be in close, they want to be at the back... Except the Advent one (Illuminator), cos that's actually good in close) Really, the only ships likely to even attempt dog fighting are the light frigates and h
Well, for one thing, I think you are assuming a lot about the potential enemy. You said that it would be bad for everyone to use a nuke, but that's assuming they aren't an alien life form from a radioactive planet. Any life form that evolved on a more radioactive planet is likely to preffer a more radioactive atmosphere, and thus it would actually be in it's interest to specifically drop nuclear bombs on other peoples planets. Now, as for if it's even possible for such a life form to
OK, much better post that time. I see your point, but at this stage I don't think either of us truely knows how efficiently space can act as a heat sink, unless scientists have already tested this? There is less mass, but it's colder, so it will depend on just how much mass there is, one would need to do some proper calculations or experiments to determin which is a better heat sink. True, a precision weapon would be less of a problem for the civilians, and in t
Actually with Dynamic, fleets tend to stick together and fight cohesively, more so I dare say than vanilla where they park themselves in odd locations. The only real problems I notice are the afiremention flying through starbases (mostly a cosmetic issue) and when fighting one-on-one capships tend to behave stupidly (flying off in wide arcs out of weapons range for no reason(. You should at least try it, i

Basically, you heat sinking materially is ALREADY AROUND your sinks on a planetary defence. IN SPACE YOU HAVE NO SUCH LUCK. In space you radiators can get shot off (hence you retract them), and your sinking m
Great mod, thoguh one or two possible balance issues, mainly that tec seem a bit...handycapped earlyer game due to the 6 logistics slots for labs, i understand thats to balance the fact they now get +10 logistics total, but its a bit steep since it takes 6 civic labs to get that tech. But then maybe thats the intention? Anyway, just wanted to say that im glad the dynamic movement is going to be OPTIONAL, as I personly really don't like the sound of it, sounds li
Quoting Will the Great, reply 65You guys do realize we're talking about a game that features magical energy shields and psychic weapons right? Thanks you! In all honesty, while a discuss about the physics and theoretical possibilities of it is enlightening, this is a game we're talking about. Like Will the Great said: they have psychic weapons and sheilds and use antimatter and fly through wormhole/blackholes. Yeah, physics
The problem with having a giant space laser is that of heat sinks. First, even at 80% efficiency (the max theoretical of a free-electron laser, or so I have learned), a laser cannon with a total power of, let's say 10 zettawatts (ZW), then 2 ZW of power (an astounding 2,000,000,00 TW!) is WASTE HEAT. Yes, 8,000,000,000 TW can be directed at an enemy target, but 2 billion terawatts are simple waste heat! That's probably enough to vaporize the can
A couple of problems with that last post: Firstly, your right that there is recoil, but that only applies to a physical cannon (not a laser) and it also still applies to plantery cannons. Something the size of the kostura cannon firing at a distant planet while mounted on a planets surface would cause so much recoil that it would knock the planet itself out of orbit! So really, a cannon that size is impractical whether in space or on a planet, it makes little difference (though I'd pr

You do know thats totally and utterly wrong right? How can their possibly be more room on a planets surface than there is in the
I think what he means is, some sort of espionage (through research and getting a spy in place) whereby you lower your enemies fleet supply, not necessarily while in your culture.

The U.K. will also unlike many other countries achieve its obligations under the Kyoto protocol. You will find most reluctance in eastern Europe. They don't want to close their coal plants (Poland uses 90% coal for e
Overpopulation is definatly a dilemarous situation. Its definately a problem, but how to solve it? Any method of controlling birth is going to be met with resistance, however good for the species as a whole it might be. Personly I'd want to limit who can have children based on their ability to raise children. They'd need to have a proper house, and decent jobs, to ensure they can give them a decent life. I'd also be tempted to add some sort of parental preficiencey exam. I thi
