Just curious, how many of you ever used BBSes? If so, what was your first experience with one? I started out using a BBS system called C-net 10.0 on the C-64. Back then, it was 1 computer, one phone line, one person on the BBS at a time. hard to imagine that now with 300+ people on here at once (when the server ain't crashed anyway!!).
So what do you guys think XP is going to do for skinning? I think it's the best thing that could happen. First off, it will start to get people off of Windows 9x/ME which means developers don't have to focus working around bizarre Windows bugs as much. If WindowBlinds 3 didn't have to run on Win9x/ME, it would be shipping already for instance. XP also introduces people to the idea of a skinnable UI since you can switch between classic and Luna. For those of you who are married, what would you list as the most important things in a successful marriage? For me, I would list it as 3 particular things equally balanced: Love (the passion, the romance, the sex, etc.). Friendship (the act of simply liking to hang out with that person). and Compatibility (being married means having a roommate which can be a challenge on its own). What do you guys think?

As I surf to my various favorite websites, I've noticed two things: Either: A) They (the websites) are trying various new ways to make money (paypal, selling mugs, hats, etc.). or B) They're run by old "new economy" companies that are slowly going under (or fast in VA Linux's case). Banner ads now bring in about $.15 per CPM for most sites. And it costs about a megabit of bandwidth to get a million page views. A megabit costs around $500 to $1000.

Yea, but they're still relatively low resolution and can't do very much application wise. The resolution is really the thing that bugs me the most.
I don't agree taht Paxx is complaining though others are. I don't think people are targeting you Paxx specifically but rather "the dissenters" in general. I read Emily's post (now that's my kind of post! LONNG ) and generally agree with her. You guys know that all these problems really come down to one thing: Avoiding seeing everything in black and white. I've been a long time Palm III owner and am starting to think about getting a new PDA. But I'm not sure which to get. I'm starting to get somewhat frustrated with the lack of innovation and advancement with the PalmOS (low resolution displays, relatively limited abilities). Is there going to be any major updates to PalmOS in the near future that would make it worth waiting for or should I look at getting the next generation iPaq when it comes out. What do you guys think?

Some great ideas and I pretty much feel the same as Paxx and Jafo on this. The casual user who has downloaded a given program, visits a skin site and checks out a couple dozen different skins wouldn't be even aware of such a limit. But the guy whose downloading hundreds of skins over months needs to contribute in some way. I think those who don't like the idea really don't understand how expensive these sites become. I would have thought that the loss of skinz.org and deskmod.

Every major Stardock product has been a beta to the public. WindowBlinds was a public beta for a *year* before release. DesktopX was a public beta for a year before release. PocketBlinds is a public beta. WebBlinds is a public beta. There is no "adverversing" in it. WindowBlinds XP beta 5 is an XP optimized version of WindowBlinds 2.2.
I prefer XP, it feels more polished and remote desktop is very nice.
Ads don't pay squat. That's the problem. At $.20 per CPM, that's not going to remotely pay the bills and it just makes the site slower.
Just as a general rule of thumb: www.objectdesktop.com will take care of everything.
