I chose Wikidot because I liked their layout better and I am not a fan of Wikia's advertising. Wikidot does do ads on a free site, but I decided to pay, at least for now. It isn't that much. In the future I'll see what happens. The upgrade expires next month and I'll go ahead and renew it for another year (it is $50). Depending on if it is seeing use I may continue, or I may not. Also if Stardock wants to own it directly I'l probalby hand it over to them. As for a talk page do you thi

Well... Unfortunately, I really have to agree with PC Gamer at this point. I don't think Elemental was ready for launch. I say this as someone who bought it and has been in it since Beta 1. The idea of the game is great, and the foundation is wonderful. It is a solid engine that is really modifiable which is my #1 concern with TBS games since I find the mods people make for them are as interesting as the game itself, certainly was with Civ 4 at least. Also I really like some of the cr
There's a wiki up for Elemental up at http://elementalwarofmagic.wikidot.com/ . It has been running since Beta 1, though it has been a little neglected as of late. So if you want some information, stop by and see if what you are interested is on there. However better yet, if you'd like to contribute, stop by and update it with some new information. There's a lot to document for such an epic game so more community participation helps.
I personally don't trust them with any sort of control because they've already shown in the past that they don't deserve it. No amount of cheap sales will change that for me.
Plus if there's one thing history teaches us it is that power corrupts. Easy to be idealistic and stick to those ideals when you are just one of many out there competing. Harder when you control the whole damn market and can do what you want. If Valve
What with the game coming out soon, the wiki's URL is not http://elementalwarofmagic.wikidot.com/ . So, go and help me update it :D.
I changed the name. It is now http://elementalwarofmagic.wikidot.com/
There is a Wiki and its rather outdated, I'm not sure if someone started a new one elsewhere though. Here is what I found: http://elementalbeta.wikidot.com/start
It is outdated because I can't get any help on it and I haven't had much time myself to update it. I've requested people on the forums help, but nobody ever seems to get past creating an account. There has been a bit of activity lately, so that's
// I think the geeks among us needs to remember that not everyone knows about digital distribution, and not everyone trusts it. Hence a lot of stuff still happens retail. Also even people who do may opt for physical copies. I like owning discs and in the event I'm buying a gift, it'll probalby be physical. Retail is still important and he's rigth about the date thing. You can't tell stores "We'll ship on this date," and th
I'd like to look in the game XML files for information on various things, but I cannot find them for the life of me. Are they being kept hidden/disabled on purpose for the beta? If so that, fine, I suppose, though a little odd. However if not then something that really needs to be done is to bring them to a more clear place. One of the important things in a highly moddable game is easy access to the mod resources. Perhaps I'm being really dense, but in Civ 4 it is real easy to find, just go t
Hey I'm game for the "Special campaign for book buyers." Reason is I really hope this works out for Random House. As a whole the game industry could use better writing. There are some notable exceptions like Bioware, but usually the writing is not that good. So, if a book publisher starts to see benefits to working with game devs, maybe we get some better written games out of it. In terms of the book itself, who knows? Brad is an unproven author at this point so it could be great, cou
As a note, I did this because more help would be nice. I've been busy myself and not had a lot of time to spend on it, so it is getting dated. I've had a number of new people who asked for, and received, access but none of them have made any edits or additions at all.
Initially I was requiring authorization for people to be able to edit the Elemental wiki, to keep vandalism down and so on. However it also seems to be keeping contributions down. So it is now open. You can now just go to the site and edit. Still will need a Wikidot account I believe, but no authorization is needed. I haven't had time personally to edit much so it needs other people to help get it up to date. Would be nic

Each 32-bit process gets a flat 4GB memory map. On a 32-bit OS, some of those addresses have to be reserved for kernel and hardware, but on a 64-bit they don't. So LAA apps can get 4GB of
My guess is just idiot fanboys. For some reason, there are people who feel the need to belong to something, and that something can be extremely silly and trivial. Thus once they join their thing it becomes The One True Way(tm) and anything against it is evil. Also, fanboys like this scare easily. They get worried that something might come and unseat the thing to which they belong. Thus they have to lash out and spread FUD to try and fight the good fight. After all, when you are on the
The Sycraft is angered. There is no music! That was one of the best parts of the orignal game (full orchestral score) :(.
When I run 1G on my computer it notes that my monitor resoution is 1280x720, which isn't high enough. Fair enough, but that is the secondary monitor (which is actually just a dummy display for the HDMI soundcard). The primary monitor is 1920x1200. The game runs fine, it just throws an error upon execution incorrectly.
Sometimes, the problems are pretty elusive. Here we see rare video of Stardock's own Brad Wardell hard at work tring to debug Elemental. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ohcDPgd1V5Y Well, you can't win them all [e digicons][/e]
You kidding me? There's been tons of press for a game this eairly. They had at least one priview, and often more than one prieview, on all the major gaming sites. It was listed as one of the top 10 most anticipated games of 2010, etc, etc. There's been a lot of press for a game in beta, and you can bet there'll be even more when it comes close to release.
I believe Haree's point is that Elemental IS the next Stardock game. Regardless of if it is what you'd personally choose or not, it is what they are currently developing. So the next Stardock game, both in temrs of what they publish (they only published Demigod and Sins, they didn't write them) and in terms of what they develop will be Elemental. After that, I don't know.
Hell no. It doesn't have an x86 chip in it so not really useful to me as a general purpose computer, since it won't run my apps. As an ebook reader it falls flat with a short battery life (most ebook readers ahve weeks of battery, not hours), not usable in the sun, and quite expensive for the cellular model. I just can't see anything I'd use it for.
Over all sounds good. Only thing I'd say is that modding is #1. To me, modding is what makes a great TBS great. I still play Civ 4 mostly because I and others can mod the hell out of it. It also can help bring other people in. For example I got two of my coworkers hooked on Civ 4 with a god mod. More or less, with this mod you play a civ that gets all the special units and buildings and such. Makes the game much easier, of course. However, it was what they ere looking for. Neither is v
Gah! All the places have no more keys :P. Oh well.
Oh, well ok then. Last I checked they wanted me to subscribe and I'll be damned if I'm giving that crap service any money.
I'm real interested in STO because I like Startrek, and I want a SCi Fi MMO. However, I'm sure I'm not the only one who's noticed that Startrek games tend to, well, suck. It seems like the give the license to stupid developers. Unforuntately, I've found nothing useful out about it yet. All the "professional" stuff out there is just PR fluff. Well the few user reviews I've seen were written by rabid, frothing, Startrek fanboys who spend all their time bitching about ways that the game
Not only that, but some of the devs that seem to bitch the most about "poor PC sales" aren't just making a console game that's a crap port, but they are releasing it for the console long before the PC! News flash: Many people have a PC AND a console, sometimes more than one! As such, if you release on a console first and a PC much later, well expect your PC sales to be weaker than your console sales by a large margin. This isn't because the PC users are being evil pirates, it is because many
