Can you explain how I can have both the Beta Expansion and the regular game installed at the same time? In Impulse I only see one thing or the other.

I installed Entrenchment, and I have to say I like some of it, but it's still a Beta, so there are obviously some bugs. I uninstalled Entrenchment so that my friends and I could continue having fun with the vanilla version of the game without the AI going crazy with Mines and ruining the game. I'm anxious to re-try the Beta of Entrenchment as soon as a new version comes out with some fixes. Hey Stardock, any idea when we can expect a new ver
It's going to depend on your taste in games. Galciv2 is never the same game twice. The AI is great, and it's really fun to see how each game unfolds. It can be brutally punishing on higher difficulties. I've never played the Civ games, so I can't really react to your question all that well. It's a 4x type of game, just like Civilization. Is it just Civilization in space? From what I've heard and read from Civilization fans, no it's not. It's
I'm curious how this will work for saved games, and how multiplayer will work for saved games. In my multiple years of playing Age of Wonders and Heroes of Might and Magic, seldom was a game completed in one sitting. In fact, the method for saving and reloading said games in such a way that everyone who re-joined joined back up playing the same players was a headache. I usually played these games with friends, so we knew when we'd get togeth
Can I just say... HUZZAH!
I've been patiently waiting for your Turn-Based Fantasy game for I think over a year now, since I first heard about it. I've seen what you guys have done with Galciv, and I can't wait to see what you come up with. Thank you THANK YOU for making these types of games. No one else is doing it nearly as well as you guys, and with such enthusiasm to boot. I'm hoping that if I order the game in advance I might be able to play the Beta in June, like how you've released th
Fallout 3 being turned into "Oblivion with Guns" makes me sad. To me, a part of what made Fallout such a great game was the isometric turned based combat system. It was one of the best turn-based combat systems since X-Com, and I loved it. Part of me is very sad to see that part of the game be thrown out by Bethesda, as if it wasn't at least a part of the appeal of Fallout. The thing is that I think Bethesda has this "Oblivion" mold, and
I read the information the Brad provided in the link posted earlier. I think I broke my keyboard because of all the drool. Stardock, it sounds like at least from MY perspective, you guys are going in completely the right direction with this game. From what little details I've been able to dig up, it is like you are mixing a special blend of drugs that will appeal exclusively to me, and instantaneously addict me. This could be dangerous. I cannot WAIT for more news.
Personally, I don't play the campaign or the scenarios, and don't have any interest in them. Sandbox mode is MORE than sufficient for me. I'm good at this game, but not an expert. The AI still challenges me at high difficulty settings, and I haven't even tried the AI on it's highest. That keeps me going. I'm not pooh-poohing scenarios, I'm sure they rock... but just giving you some feedback as to how many people play them.
Some great suggestions have been made. I'll add to a few of them, just in case Stardock is listening. DIPLOMACY!!! Age of Wonders had a basic kind of diplomacy. Heroes of Might and Magic had none. I'd like to see a Galciv-esque diplomacy model in the game. Being able to make or break alliances, trade technologies, give/receive tribute and bribes, and other options would be great. If you had races in the game such as Trolls, Goblins, Elves, etc then the AI f
Hey Stardock, you should quit referring to these as "Updates" and start saying "Upgrades", because that's what it is. Every release of the game that you guys push out FEELS like a slightly different game. While I know this may piss off some users (metaverse addicts) I love it. Keeps me on my toes all the time, keeps the game fresh. I'm hard pressed to think of any other game company that packs so much NEW things into what you guys consider regular update patches.
That was a good little rant, and I kinda understand where you're coming from. The first time I downloaded Galciv2 I was a bit confused as well. However, at this point, I love Stardock Central, and I've gotten used to the interface. When I need to install Galciv2, I just go back to the original email I was sent, and click the setup link from there, and after that it's just a small matter of copying and pasting my serial number during the setup process. When the setup p
So far, I find that Asteroids can have a decent impact on a small world, but not much impact on a well developed world. For example, if I have a class 4 planet with a factory and 3 research facilities, it is much quicker to upgrade the research facilities if the planet is getting bonuses from asteroids.
I'm still experimenting with the Espionage system. Having only played one game through on Normal difficulty though, I'm not comfortable making any judgments on the system yet. I have noticed that Agents get detected and die very quickly though. I noticed that none of the civilizations I was spying on had any counter-intelligence researched. It makes me wonder what the point is of researching this technology, when it seems Agents are detected and squashed so quickly anyways.
I noticed the launch bug as well. I had a ship with 1 movement speed that was 1 move away from a planet. I accidentally moved it to the planet. I was then able to launch the ship, and it still had 1 movement point.
I agree that Starbase defense is laughable, and that it would be fun if Starbases were more powerful. I station small fleets of ships on top of my Starbases to protect them before I go to war.
I'm happy that Dark Avatar is out now... it'll keep me busy until Stardock makes their announcement about this. Let's face it: Stardock has revolutionized the space 4X game. Galciv2, in my mind, is going up there with Master of Orion. It has become the classic that 10 years from now strategy gamers will still be talking about. Maybe my expectations are high, but I'm hoping Stardock's fantasy strategy game is something that I'll put in the same category of excellence as Heroe
So I'm in Atlanta for the weekend on a business trip. A good significant part of it looks like it's gonna be kinda boring. I'm in my hotel room, browsing the net, and what do I find? Dark Avatar has been released? OMG! Well, thanks to Stardocks NO COPYRIGHT PROTECTION, and WONDERFUL DOWNLOADABLE SERVICE, 10 minutes later, I've purchased Dark Avatar, and I've installed Stardock Central onto my company laptop, and am happily downloading Galciv2 and the Dark Avatar expa
Congrats Stardock! Looking forward to playing Dark Avatar! (when's the last time I've seen a game released EARLY?)
Whenever I get an itch to play a TBS Fantasy game, I either plug in Age of Wonders: Shadow Magic, or Heroes of Might and Magic 3. I loved the Lords of Magic game too, but I can't get that game to work anymore, and that game has replay issues where you really don't have a random map generator.
When Dark Avatar is finished, is Stardock contemplating making an announcement about the Fantasy Turn-based strategy that is in development? Title? Game information? Release date? I can't wait to find out more about it! Not that I'm tired of Galactic Civilizations 2, by any means.
Crappy, sub-par game. All the previous criticisms are valid. This is a game that you'll be mad at yourself for wasting $40 on. I'm sure 10 year olds playing the X-Box version will love it. All others should steer clear.
Jesus Freaking Christ. I just got a new PC with a Core 2 Duo processor. It's nice to know all this time that Stardock has been plotting ways to use it against me. Damn!
You can bet your Altarian butt that I voted Galciv2 best strategy and best overall game for 2006. I've played a lot of games this year, but I can't think of another game that has kept me awake until 3am more times than Galciv2.
For joy! I can't wait for more details!
